Dakota Johnson Sleeps for 14 Hours a Night

Dakota Johnson recently gave an interview where she says she sleeps for 14 hours a night, does transcendental meditation twice a day and has a lot of baths - especially if she feels anxious. She doesn't eat breakfast (just a latte or something) and works out a lot, strength training and pilates.

I wonder what time she goes to bed and what time she gets up? Does anyone on here sleep for more than 8 hours a day? Anyone up to the challenge of trying? What do you make of this?

Never
We generally are working until 6pm, then eat/ rest/ shower before bed. Even 3 year old.
He usually goes around 8.30pm, and is wide awake by 6.30am. That’s with full on activity all day often. 9-10hrs is max for 3 year old.
Nursery starts at 8am

MushMonster · 12/12/2023 17:54

Like every day? No way! That is not healthy!
I think I can get to ten hours on winter cold weekends. But I would struggle with more.

spriots · 12/12/2023 17:55

What she actually said was

I'm not functional if I get less than 10. I can easily go 14 hours

To me that doesn't suggest she routinely gets 14 hours

devildeepbluesea · 12/12/2023 17:57

7.5 hours is optimum for me. Last night I had nearly 9 hours and I’ve felt tired and sluggish all day.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 12/12/2023 17:58

She spends most of her life asleep. That's pretty sad imo

Ittastesvile · 12/12/2023 17:59

9 hrs preferred (although lucky if I get more than 7.5),so I don't think her need for 10 is that abnormal.

I haven't slept for 14 since I was a teenager though, excluding severe jetlag and illness.

RudsyFarmer · 12/12/2023 18:00

The older I get the less sleep i need. 6 hours is fine. I normally do 7. 14 hours would make me feel awful.

AllIsWellish · 12/12/2023 18:04

I'm lucky if I get 4 these days, think I'd be really happy with 7

Sleep is the cousin to death.

She may as well be. I wonder how long she meditates for. If she does two 1/2 hour sessions that’s another hour if her life gone, giving her 9 hours to play with. She is in a relationship with Chris Martin so if he has say two hours a day (I have no idea how much time relationships require as I have been single for a long time). But if she listens to his new music and artistic angst that gives her 7 hours. The bath must take about an hour given that she is using it to cope with anxiety and not for hygiene purposes. She is now left with 6 hours to live. She doesn’t eat breakfast but she must eat at least one meal a day so that leaves her with 5 hours. Oh, and she does a lot of exercise. Knowing these Hollywood types that takes 2 hours. So she is left with a 3 hour day. No wonder she’s just doing voiceovers these days. She probably does that on Zoom and can do it from her bed.

Wow. How do you function on 4 hours a night? Are you always tired?

Ah, The Guardian exaggerated.

Ridiculous! Hmm Is she a cat?! 8-9 hours is plenty.

Of course we have the other end of the 'ridiculous scale' on here too. Someone claiming they sleep 4 hours a night. Wink No-one can survive on that long-term. No-one!

ChateauDuMont · 12/12/2023 18:20

Is t she that dreadful bore's girlfriend? Chris Martin from Coldplay?

Christ, an evening with him would have me nodding off at tea time!

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 12/12/2023 18:22

What a waste of life that is.

Frequency · 12/12/2023 18:25

I sleep a lot when I have the chance. 9/10 hours a night is optimal for me. I tend to feel tired after less than this and start feeling run down if I get less than this for more than 3 nights in a row, especially when I am on days. I usually go to bed at 8:30 pm when I am on days and still struggle to get up at 6 am. I'm usually shattered again by 5 pm.

On my first day off after a 4-day run of day shifts, I can easily sleep for 14 hours or longer.

Oddly, I cope better on nights and can manage with 5/6 hours a day of sleep.

I think it is because I have worked nights since I was 18/19, so my body believes that getting up at 7 am for a day shift is akin to getting up at 2 am in the morning, whereas getting up at 3/4 pm after going to bed at 9/10 am is normal.

I've been tested for thyroid issues and came back as borderline for underactive.

RunningFromInsanity · 12/12/2023 18:29

I aim for and feel good with 9-10hrs (11pm-9am)
Can do 12hours on a Sunday

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 12/12/2023 18:30

I like to get a good 9 hours. My kids are all grown up and I live alone, work evening shifts, so I can generally sleep as much as I want and 9 hours is the dream (sorry). Anything less than 7 hours and I can get a bit tetchy.

But with having five kids as a single parent for most of their lives, I have lost so much sleep over the years that I just regard this as my time to catch up.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 12/12/2023 18:31

I’m lucky to get 8 hours. Have insomnia so often awake for several hours in the night or awake at 5am.

i don’t have time for baths and meditation etc on top! I would love that life!

stargirl1701 · 12/12/2023 18:33

I have always slept a lot. From babyhood onwards. My mum used complain about having to wake me up as a child on Christmas morning as all of the neighbours' children were already out playing. I still sleep a great deal. I suspect I am probably autistic and it's a form of recovery from daily life.

Constantly , I think it might be peri menopause. I don't have problems falling a sleep its staying asleep. Luckily I wfh most of the time and it's flexible so I often start at 4-5 am .

Must feel great after all those years of hard work and sleepless nights to have the freedom to sleep for as long as you need. Sounds wonderful.

I don't do 10+ hours regularly, because I have a job. However, on a Friday night I typically go to bed at 10.30ish and stay asleep until lunchtime on Saturday. If I'm particularly tired, I'll go for a wee and can easily go straight back to sleep for another couple of hours.
ETA: I've always been like this, my mother always said I slept hours as a child too. DD is the same, slept amazingly from tiny and still will do 15 hours straight on a weekend.

Well I'm still alive ! Never met anyone with a child with a disability who doesn't sleep? Plenty of us manage to survive on very little sleep . Although now ds is older he sleeps better but I don't!
