Dakota Johnson Sleeps for 14 Hours a Night

Dakota Johnson recently gave an interview where she says she sleeps for 14 hours a night, does transcendental meditation twice a day and has a lot of baths - especially if she feels anxious. She doesn't eat breakfast (just a latte or something) and works out a lot, strength training and pilates.

I wonder what time she goes to bed and what time she gets up? Does anyone on here sleep for more than 8 hours a day? Anyone up to the challenge of trying? What do you make of this?

Hahaha I wish. I probably sleep 14 hours in 3 days. Well lucky her, no kids and lots of money.

TheKnittedCharacter · 12/12/2023 17:11

It’s well documented that too much sleep is linked to a whole host of serious health issues. 14 hours for an adult is rather ridiculous unless she’s suffering from a condition that makes her needs masses of sleep.

bogoblin · 12/12/2023 17:12

If she's always sleeping, meditating, and doing workouts, when does she fit in her acting career?! (Does she still have one?)

PossumintheHouse · 12/12/2023 17:14

I generally sleep for eight or nine hours a night, reasons being I’ve been having a stressful time recently and my sleep is very disturbed. I’ll go to bed at 10 or 11pm. I think I’d struggle if I got less than seven hours.

BlueberryVelvet · 12/12/2023 17:14

If I was that rich I’d sleep for 14 hours too!

LuciferRising · 12/12/2023 17:16

I aim for 8 to 9 hours. Anymore I feel lethargic all day.

Gnomegnomegnome · 12/12/2023 17:16

Sounds great but would you fit it in? I get up at 5 so would need to go to sleep at 3pm.

I meditate and exercise daily but sleep 7-8 hours (although sometimes I’m lucky to get an hour).

My daughter slept through the night from 3 weeks old and still needs 12 hours of sleep at 11yo. I imagine she could happily slumber for 14hrs each night if she didn't have school tbh.

Retrievemysanity · 12/12/2023 17:19

Sounds amazing! I was chatting to a group of friends about sleep the other week. All of them had issues sleeping apart from me and I do think part of that is down to the fact that I don’t work so I have time to do things like workouts every day, baths and meditation. I don’t sleep for 14 hours though and wouldn’t have the time but I don’t feel I need to. I sleep between 7 and 9 hours a night.

For the past year or so I've been sleeping a nap of about two hours and about eight hours at night, so 10 overall, but that was due to illness, and it's been brilliant to stop needing that much sleep.

I can't go under about 7 hours though without suffering the next day, I mean I can, I've gone on with no sleep, but to feel ok it has to be 7 or more, so between 7-8 and a half is ideal.

jhy · 12/12/2023 17:20

That is a lot of sleep. More than my 5 yo. Going to sleep at 7pm and waking at 9am seems impossible for a daily thing.

Makkacakka · 12/12/2023 17:21

I think I sleep around 12 hours some nights. My toddler doesn't like to sleep alone so I often just go to bed with him and sleep when he does. Often I'm busy on my phone ordering our weekly shop or browsing, but sometimes I'm asleep straight away. Mind you though, I do also have interrupted sleep when he wakes and wants cuddles or a breastfeed (usually just awake 5 minutes at a time though). Not sure how she sleeps that long. And that's not after chasing around a toddler all day either!

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 12/12/2023 17:21

Sleep is the cousin to death.

SnapdragonToadflax · 12/12/2023 17:22

What a waste of time! How does she fit it into her day? If she goes to sleep at 9pm she's not waking up until 11am? I don't think I've ever slept that long, even as a student.

Seagrassbasket · 12/12/2023 17:23

14 hours is a lot and like a PP said it’s actually dangerous to have too much sleep. I’d question whether she’s healthy if she really needs 14 hours in 24.

My sweet spot is about 9, which I get about once a week!

dontforgetme · 12/12/2023 17:24

How the other half live!

pinkspeakers · 12/12/2023 17:24

That's a shame. Life is short enough as it is!

TeacherPlease · 12/12/2023 17:45

I aim for 10 hours (10pm to 8am), get closer to 12 at weekends (10-10) and 9 a couple of nights through the week if I need to be up to get into the office.

All2Well · 12/12/2023 17:47

What's the point of sleeping away most of your life?

TheKnittedCharacter · 12/12/2023 17:49

My sister sleeps at least 12 hours a night, but she is really lazy and has no energy whatsoever.

CoatOfArms · 12/12/2023 17:50

Sounds like my teenage daughter. You're not that special. Dakota.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 12/12/2023 17:50

8pm to 8am would be simple enough, so if you don't eat breakfast 8pm to 10am.
if you don't have a traditional job and money you certainly can live life as you so please.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/12/2023 17:52

Maybe she’s unwell?

I love my sleep, but only sleep that long if I’m unwell with flu etc. otherwise 6-8 hours is my normal. Or maybe she doesn’t sleep for 14 hours but stays in bed mucking about on her phone etc….teenage style?

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 12/12/2023 17:52

When I was younger and going out alot more every so often I had to have a catchup. I would come home from work eat and be in bed by 6 and sleep until about 7am. I used to feel so much better for it. It was only a once every few months thing though.

Brandyginger · 12/12/2023 17:52

14 hours sleep in a 24 hour cycle, routinely, in an adult is a predictor of serious health issues / life limiting illnesses.

My mother suddenly started sleeping 14 hrs a night and boasted she was so healthy that she had so much good quality sleep while her friends had trouble sleeping. Sadly she was dead from cancer within 2 years : picked up far too late. I’ll see if I can find the research on excessive sleep in adults / life expectancy and post it here.
