I've started a couple of other posts re this - I'm now confused as to whether to start sleep training or not and whether its teething, growth spurt etc etc

SO - quick question....

DID YOUR LO SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT AT 6 MONTHS? By sleep through I mean 7/8pm until at least 5am??

Yes or No would be great along with times....

Nowhere near. Still up between 5 and 7 times a night at that age.

Snort.

At 7 months we're extremely proud of the one occasion on which DS slept a full 7 hours. The nearest he's ever come to repeating it is a couple of 4.5 hour stints. The general pattern is waking every 2-3 hours though. Sometimes for 2-3 hours.

Obviously, after saying (rather smugly I think you'll agree) that ds sleeps from about 7ish until 6 the next morning, he proceeded to wake up every half hour last night and we were awake for a full 2 hours between 2 and 4 this morning. I got my comeuppance

nowwearefour · 09/03/2008 19:56

both mine had slept through UNTIL 6 months but then stopped until the solids had kicked in. not the right time to try the sleep training in my view (and i am ALL in favour of sleep training in principle) as they just have so many issues re solids/ digestion to contend with i doubt it can be that successful in many cases. best wait 4 -6 weeks or so until food issues have settled down in my view.....

No way. Can't remember when DS1 slept a whole night but clearly remember with DS2 that he was a year old and I slept right away from him so I could get an unbroken night's sleep.

They're both brilliant sleepers now, I don't think there's necessarily a link between how they sleep as babies and how they grow up.

They were breastfed and didn't start solids till 6 months - that probably makes a difference.

Hulababy · 09/03/2008 20:20

No. DD was 20 months before she slept through, and that was only after a couple of nights of CC.

Reesie · 09/03/2008 20:30

No! (laughs hysterically)

fruitfulinotherways · 09/03/2008 20:37

dd - no (was 2 yrs before she would sleep through regularly)

ds1 - ditto

ds2 - is 13 weeks and I'm planning that he'll start sleeping through tonight. I informed him of this as I put him to bed and he laughed at me. [sigh]. Not waking every hour would be nice!

JingleyJen · 09/03/2008 20:38

yes both of them 7-7

nappynoonoo · 09/03/2008 20:40

DD slept through 9pm till 8am from about 6-7 weeks old, but she did it on her own though. DD will wake up once or twice a week at 4 am for a feed.

My2Weegirls · 09/03/2008 20:42

dd1 - no (did sleep training at 2.6)
dd2 - has done it once and never again!

ssummers · 09/03/2008 20:42

no - my ds was always a bad sleeper - it improved when he started school. Maybe it wore him out!

claraquitetirednow · 09/03/2008 20:59

Thank god for this thread - has made me realise I must stop worrying about dd2 (13 weeks) still waking once a night for a feed.

Dd1 started sleeping through at about 5 months, but woke on and off until she was about 18 months.

padge · 18/03/2008 21:33

dd1 slept through from 8 months. But had a few wobbles along the way - especially when she went from a cot to a bed and when DD2 was due and just born. Still waiting for DD2 to do the same- he is 9 months and waking 2 - 3 times a night

LiegeAndLief · 19/03/2008 13:23

no - woke usually once a night for a feed. Slept through at 7months but waking at about 5am.

desperatelyseekingsleep · 19/03/2008 13:41

IF ONLY!!!!!
Ds1 - NO, slept through at about 22 months
DS2 - NO, still not sleeping through at 7.5 months

smallbob · 20/03/2008 18:05

No, still breastfeeding our 6.5 month DD twice in the night here, plus a dreamfeed at 10. She does go straight back to sleep afterwards though. (Please let me not have jinxed myself)

She has done two weeks at different times of dropping to one feed but went back to two feeds as soon as I'd told my mum we'd cracked it. And one momentous 7-7 with no feeds that had me in big-boob agony from 4am onwards.

OverMyDeadBody · 20/03/2008 18:07

No. He didn't sleep through the night till he was 2.

Novicecamper · 20/03/2008 18:08

Yes, all 3 were sleeping through way before 6 months.

eekamoose · 20/03/2008 18:10

DD yes 8pm - 6am ish. She just started to do it at 6 months by herself.

DS no. Did controlled crying at 10 months with him. No looking back after that.
