Sleep regression. Anyone else want to join!? Sleepless mums!

Currently going through what I believe could be a four month sleep regression? For ages my son slept really well didn't wake up in the night and if he did it was for one bottle then slept. Most nights slept 9:30pm till about 8am next day.
Has alllllllllll gone out the window the past week 🤣 I always knew the good sleep wouldn't last long and I appreciated it when it did but it's kinda making me feel extremely tired now including my partner🥱
How long does it last?? Will it go on for months?? Will I ever have a 8-8 again? 😥😥🤣
The strange thing is if he wakes up. As soon as I place him onto my bed and pillow he sleeps. So if it was a sleep regression surely he would wake also in my bed?

I've developed a serious BREAD addiction! Never had much of a sweet tooth but omg the Christmas cheese/bread/pate etc was never going to last until Christmas day...

@LCF2021 the bed dread is the pits. I'd actually started to quite enjoy our little routine of bath/bottle/story/feed to sleep when she was sleeping so well. Now as soon as it gets dark I feel so anxious!!

I agree that everyone has to find their own path re the crying. I'm still in the camp of pick them up if the cry, but if her sleep doesnt improve over the next few months I might revisit some sort of gentle sleep training once she is a bit older.

JammyRedRooo · 10/12/2021 14:17

@Mytigerhasstripyfeet any chance some kindly family members will offer to get DS down for a nap for you? Grin

It's so difficult trying to juggle sleep with other commitments at the best of times let alone when everything is as full on as Christmas is. We have four sets of parents to get round (both our parents are divorced and remarried) so we don't have to do any cooking or hosting thank goodness. Having the day itself at my mums which we havent for yonks so I'm really looking forward to it!

LCF2021 · 10/12/2021 16:04

I’ve a question for you; how long is your window from last nap to bedtime for your 4 month olds? I’ve been working to 2-2.5 hours but some times she really doesn’t show any tired signs

Mytigerhasstripyfeet · 10/12/2021 18:56

@LCF2021 usually about 2hrs too but he's definitely tired after an hour. He's always been grumpy at the end of the day. Tends to fight sleep unless he's been up at least 1.5h however.

ayylauren · 10/12/2021 19:38

@LCF2021 I try to do last nap about 3-4pm. Sometimes he refuses last nap and he's in the bath at 5, and sometimes he's still sleeping at 4.30 so he's in the bath about 6 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ so I guess anywhere between 1 and 2 hours. Always try to aim for him to be in bed asleep for 7-8 but definitely doesn't always happen.

LCF2021 · 10/12/2021 20:16

Well, I aimed for 2 hours as she was actually yawning at about 6.30pm so got her in the bath and fed to put her to bed at 7pm. She’s only just gone down now after a huge screaming session, even when she was being cuddled she was hysterical. I think she only ended up calming down on me and allowing me to put her down again due to sheer exhaustion having been shouting at me for an hour.

Mytigerhasstripyfeet · 10/12/2021 20:22

Oh god that sounds so stressful - how to you get her to go to sleep? Cuddling?

Hope she stays down.

Son has just gone back to sleep...ish. I'm pretty sure he's asleep but he's also scratching my jumper haha. He woke up to be fed a little while ago. Will put him in cot in a min.

LCF2021 · 10/12/2021 20:32

@Mytigerhasstripyfeet We just did a lot of cuddling, rocking, stroking…nothing in particular worked. She only lasted 20 mins though and she’s up crying already so I’m hoping my husband can attempt to settle her. We’re at the point where nothing works for her; feeding, cuddling, rocking. She only sleeps in my arms or in the carrier.

pinkgin1 · 10/12/2021 20:51

@LCF2021 have you tried swaddling in a blanket , and do I dare say it, maybe a dummy will help Blush

LCF2021 · 10/12/2021 21:36

@pinkgin1 She rolls over now so I think swaddling is a no no and she never really liked it as a newborn anyway. She does have a dummy but I actually think it’s doing more harm than good. She can be totally screaming and it will sometimes calm her and help her go off to sleep but she immediately pulls it out and then she’s up again. I think we’ll actually ditch the dummy any day now as it’s becoming more of a hindrance.

Mytigerhasstripyfeet · 10/12/2021 21:40

Partner and I currently both sitting on the sofa WhatsApping eachother so as not to wake the baby 😭😂

He just woke up crying - was in his cot. Now he's downstairs with us but keeps grumbling if we talk. Such a little tyrant!

@lcf2021 did your husband manage to get your LO back off to sleep? Sounds really tough, awful they're not responding to rocking etc. One thing that always seems to quiet mine is cold air, sometimes if he's not settling I'll open the patio door and stand there for a minute or so. Not long enough for him to get chilled, enough for him to feel/smell the cool air. He always lies still when I do it. Once he goes quiet he tends to stay quiet. You could give it a go? If you haven't already.

Mytigerhasstripyfeet · 10/12/2021 21:46

Guess it might help to get her to sleep but not keep her asleep!

Sorry not to have more suggestions. Really feel for you though! Such a nightmare

ayylauren · 10/12/2021 22:15

@LCF2021 sounds awful hope the rest of the night is better for you Thanks

pinkgin1 · 10/12/2021 23:19

Sons been up three times from 9pm, is asleep now just had a bottle, is currently in my bed next to me, not that I mind as I do quite like it 🙈but don't want to start a habit.

ayylauren · 10/12/2021 23:35

@pinkgin1 snap, been up 4 times tonight already. LO fast asleep now but I'm awake Confused

Mytigerhasstripyfeet · 10/12/2021 23:49

Yes I'm awake too. Feeding atm.

pinkgin1 · 11/12/2021 01:17

pinkgin1 · 11/12/2021 01:19

Since 9 pm I've counted 6 times I think 😅

JimHalpertsPA · 11/12/2021 03:01

Omg. No 3hr long wake ups tonight so far! Could this be the end of the regression??? I am cautiously hopeful. 2 wake ups so far, both times really drowsy on boob. The real question is though
WHY AM I SYILL AWAKE?????

Mytigerhasstripyfeet · 11/12/2021 03:02

Yuck that's...let me see... about 6 times too many. How are you holding up?

Not having the worst night here. Up to feed 3 times, but has gone down in cot again each time without any issues.

ayylauren · 11/12/2021 03:15

also on wake up number 6, feeling like it's gunna be a long day tomorrow ConfusedGrin

pinkgin1 · 11/12/2021 03:45

@Mytigerhasstripyfeet I'm actually doing ok, that 6 has gone to about 10🤣 he's currently drinking another bottle!
@ayylauren I agree! Coffee galore🤣

OP posts:
pinkgin1 · 11/12/2021 03:46

@JimHalpertsPA yes why are you! Sleeppppppp!!! 🤣🤣

OP posts:
Mytigerhasstripyfeet · 11/12/2021 05:04

LO propped up in the corner of the sofa sucking his thumb... The worst thing is he's going to be the grumpy one tomorrow!

Glad you're surviving @pinkgin1 🙂 I'm not too bad. It's hard work though isn't it! (Understatement of the year)

LCF2021 · 11/12/2021 07:31

Ohhhh sounds like we all had rubbish nights. I lost count of the wake ups….5/6 maybe? I was trying to hold out and not bring her into our bed but by 5am I just couldn’t be bothered reaching over to attempt and fail to settle her in the crib so she snuggled up to me. She’s managed to catch my son’s cold (not a surprise as he’s constantly in her face!) which isn’t helping matters.
