Can't believe we're onto another new thread already!

Hi everyone,

Morning Meg - glad you had a good night. Hope you feel a bit more rested.

Amber - hope you had a lovely time, and that all was well back at the ranch.

Mamahotfoot - glad that your new methods are working. I sometimes wonder if I was firmer about routine whether DD would sleep.....but I doubt it .

Good night here - took an hour of resettling for DD to go off at 8.15, but then slept til 1.45 . DH reports that she was up for "ages" but doesn't know how long. Woke again 5.30, and napped off and on in bedside cot til 7.45.

Our plan for just one feed each night, at first waking, has been going really well. I think I might even stop making up that extra feed at night now.

So it's just the dummy and swaddling to crack now. Piece of cake !

Amberjee · 05/08/2007 09:13

i had alovely night, though my friend was really late as she went to the wrong restaurant
LO was good, apparently he woke once in the evening, but was fine and settled himself. then he woke at 3 for a feed, and up at 7.15. perfect!
had a couple of glasses of wine too. weeeee.

EffiePerine · 05/08/2007 09:49

Amber: gl;ad you enjoyed your night out

Bags (lvoe the new name) sounds like a good night. And yay for the improved night for Megs

Tam: hope you're feeling better today

Haven't posted for a few days as have been enjoying the sunshine. DS getting better slowly - think we're out of the other side of the growth spurt - but still in bed with us as I'm too tired to move him ibn the middle of the night. Will try and sort that out next week. I don't mind except that he doesn't sleep mnuch better, in fact he gets hot cuddled up between us despite being in a vest and sleeping on top of teh mattress.

Oh, and he was stung by a wasp yesterday . I squashed it with my flipflop.

Sorry about typing but DS trying to grab keyboard! Enjoy the rest of the weekend

EffiePerine · 05/08/2007 09:57

Mrs TH: sounds like a good night for you as well

Am finding the good weather helps a lot, partly cos we can go to the park and DS can roam around enjpying himself.

I didn't like the 'accidental parenting' bit of BW either. Surely instincts are instincts for a reason? I really think those baby books are like diet books - if they worked there wouldn't be so many of them

gegs73 · 05/08/2007 10:09

I've not read this whole thread but love the title - 'God have mercy'. Hahah that is exactly how it feels when LO is awake at some uneartly hour!!! Roll on sleeping through the night!!!!

MegBusset · 05/08/2007 10:51

Hiya Gegs. How old is your LO (or LOs)?

DS has been asleep for 1.5hrs! normally it is his lunchtime nap that's the long one. Actually this will work out well 'cause we are going to my sister's this afternoon, that means he can nap in the car on the way there and it won't matter too much if he wakes when we get there (it's a 30-min drive).

MegBusset · 05/08/2007 10:52

EP I hate wasps hope your LO wasn't hurt too much. I find vinegar is a good remedy for a sting.

Tamdin · 05/08/2007 13:52

afternoon all.

Ep at wasp stinging ds. my ds is obsessed with wasps, bees infact anyhting insect related. Keep trying to explain to him you can't touch bees. No stings a s yet but only matter of time!
ps of sun in. N.I cloudy/humid yesterday and p***g it down today.

amber glad you had a good night out. you deserved it

meg for your good night and your god nap today

Barryscott for your good night too

mamahot foot also did not like term 'accidental parenting' for anything instinctual

last night in our house was bit of a joke/hippy commune!

went out with friends. mil babysat. ds fell asleep on our bed watching the proms at 8.30 but she managed to lift him into his cot. He then woke at 11 when we came in (rather tipsy with friends). ds turned on the charm and proceeded to entertain everyone until 12.
friends left and dh, ds and i got in bed with tea and toast.
Lights out at 1 and we all slept until 8 this morning

It was like ds was part of our night out LOL

evenin' all.

Amber - glad your night was successful after a tricky start.

EP - that pesky wasp!

Tam - glad you had fun too.

Meg for that lovely long nap!

Ginger and Tibs - hope you've been having fun this weekend.

DD has had a grand total of 30 mins sleep since 10.30 am . Wonder if it's the heat? I had to bring her back from the park because she was sweating like billy-o, even in the shade. She's not too grumpy right now, but I have a feeling bed and bath might be a bit tricky .

Sending sleepy vibes to all

MegBusset · 05/08/2007 18:42

LO's bedroom is 27 degrees -- even though we've had the fan on all afternoon! Any tips for cooling it??

gegs73 · 05/08/2007 18:53

Hi Meg - my LO who keeps me awake is 10 weeks, though it could definitely be alot worse as he has the last 2 weeks started feeding at 10/11pm, then is managing just 1 feed in the middle of the night around 3am then up and fed at 7am.

A couple of weeks ago it was horrendous about 3 times between 12am - 6am then awake for the day so it has DEFINITELY got better !!! Its just all a shock to the system as DS1 is 3 and has been sleeping through since he was about 4 months and I had just forgotten how horrendous it was.

Hope you have a good night with your LO. It is very hot!!!

callmeovercautious · 05/08/2007 19:59

Meg - Am sympathising!

When I was pg last Summer (remember that?) DP bought me an aircon unit. It arrived just in time for her to arrive in Sept as they were sold out it has been put to use today (at last)and kept us cool. However have had to turn it off when she went to bed as it is loud and it is now 26 in her room

Just make sure lo is not wearing much and v light covers. We have a 1.0 tog sleeping bag and she is in a vest sleepsuit.

You have got the window open haven't you? It should start to cool down in an hour or so.

callmeovercautious · 05/08/2007 20:01

Tamdin - your evening sounds great fun. Glad you had some fun.

Amberjee · 05/08/2007 21:57

Hi Meg, it's 27 degrees here too. a fan won't actually cool a room, in fact it might heat it a tiny bit due to the nature of it being an electrical appliance. but it makes it 'feel' cooler, because of air movement. apparently. best i can suggest is wide open windows and not too much clothing tonight...

we had an excellent day. went swimming with LO this morning, and then for yum cha and enjoying the sun. LO had TERRIBLE naps today, so will be interesting to see how tonight goes and whether it makes a difference or not.

XcupcakemummyX · 06/08/2007 06:30

ds wet the bed at eleven dd decided she hated her room and we swoped.
dh slept in ds room and the house was back under mosssie attack i am spotty from them n

Tamdin · 06/08/2007 08:32

for your disrupted night and those bloody mozzies!

amber and meg hope you got some sleep in the heat. we had torrential rain morning to night yesterday if it make syou feel any better

good night with us.
bed at 7.30, woke at 2 (in with us and bottle) woke at 7 for the day
that's 6.5 hours in his cot before he came in with us
I also went to bed at 8.30 so got a good few hours in before he woke

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 06/08/2007 08:45

Tam: great night

CCM: at the mozzies - none here yet thank goodness. Wasps are bad enough!

Bad night last night - thought there would be probs as DS didn't nap in the afternoon. Spent the afternoon in the park then he dozed off in the buggy for about 10 mins. Wouldn't go to sleep after bath at 7:30, ended up going down at about 9 . Slept till 12ish, then up at about half one with v wet nappy, refused to go back to sleep, had another dirty nappy, swore a bit (me), had row with DH (me again with DS joining in), finally got him to sleep at about 3 (in with us), woke at about 5:30 for milk and then dozed on and off till I got up at 7. Think the cm will have fun with him today . The heat doesn't help, despite him being in bed in a vest and no covers.

MegBusset · 06/08/2007 08:54

EP sounds rough. We couldn't put LO in full scratch-proof body suit because of the heat so he was definitely a bit itchier. He was less settled than the night before -- about 4 brief wakings before I took him to bed with me at midnight, then woke at 3, then 5 and was wide awake til 6 then dozed til 7.30. I didn't get much sleep after 5 (stiff neck) so feel pretty tired. It's raining now though so hopefully will feel fresher!

Tam sounds like a great night.

MegBusset · 06/08/2007 08:55

Oh and CCM I have three great big bites on my feet -- itch like buggery. Bloody mozzies!

Tamdin · 06/08/2007 09:18

ep (still always want to call you swizz!) that does sound like a rough night.how are you feeling today? are you in work or at home?

meg for your night too. the sun is lovely during the day to get out and do things but def doesn't help with our non-sleeping lo's

Ginger and tibs where are you? better not be sleeping

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 06/08/2007 09:24

Am at work. Hope I don't have to make any major decisions

Amberjee · 06/08/2007 09:46

EP your night sounds awful. we had a little bit of the same last night (prob due to pathetic naps yesterday as well)
woke at 10 for a feed. woke at 1, wouldn't go back to sleep, wouldn't feed, cried if i left him. so i got the futons out and put them on his floor, lay down and let him hit my face and pull my hair for an hour or so, then he went back into his cot and went to sleep after that (phew!) woke at 5.50 though and talked (loudly) until 7.

Amberjee · 06/08/2007 09:55

oh yeah, i forgot the vomit at 1am wakeup as well necessitating the takng of a shower.

gingerninja · 06/08/2007 09:55

Ah, Tam your night sounded great. They get better and better don't they. I loved my DD being a baby but she's getting more fun each day as she gets older.

EP your night sounds hope you can keep your eyes open today.

Meg, our lo was scratching all night too. Poor little things. I did have her in a vest but put her PJ's on instead so that she couldn't get at her skin because I really really don't want her to bleed. The coconut oil has been working and yesterday afternoon when I got her out of bed she looked really good but about an hour later she'd got a massive flare up again and looks terrible again this morning. I can only put it down to either heat or pollen because we were in the garden and she hadn't eaten anything. It's so flipping depressing isn't it. Just when you think you're on top of it. The humidifier we got lets out cool steam i'll email you the link, we bought it from amazon. Not sure if it cools the room but it doesn't heat it. It seems really good and her skin hasn't felt as dry in the morning.

We haven't had good nights. Last night she was absolutely bouncing off the walls. Singing, flapping her arms, humpfing around the cot and scratching for HOURS. My poor DH feels terrible this morning because he took over for most of it as I had a terrible headache which clanged everytime I moved. I can only imagine the heat had got to us all. I don't know how I got through my pregnancy last year when it was like that every day and the tubes were about 40 degrees. I remember taking ice blocks on the train and holding them against my neck.

Sorry I haven't mentioned everyone, we're off swimming. Not sure it's a good idea with her skin but she loves it and you can't stop living can you?

PS I'm back at work in about 2 weeks. Brand new job three days per week. I'm excited but very very at leaving DD. I keep bursting in to tears at the thought of her thinking she's been abandoned. I'm trying to cherish every moment even if it is in the middle of the night. Pathetic isn't it?

Amberjee · 06/08/2007 10:24

ginger and meg for the heat/pollen causing flare ups.
we went swimming yesterday too, and i noticed a few red patches coming. but the swimming was sooo much fun. LO loved it as DH came too.
