@DiscombobulatedWomble it's so hard when they're so small still. I'm sure lots of people would say I'm doing it wrong but I lay next to my dd, I feed her, and then I either put my hand on her face or just lay with her while she plays with my hands/face until she goes. I do this for all naps and night time. I keep my eyes shut and it's almost like she takes her cue from me. My Dh puts her straight in her cot awake and sits with her while she goes but he gets a lot more crying than I do whereas I can't cope with it (crying exacerbates my pnd massively). During the day I use white noise as well because she gets very distracted by outside noise and it's the only way I can get her down for a nap without waking every two minutes and means I can go downstairs and get on with things if I'm not napping with her.

Has your LO got a comforter or a toy? That helps my dd

Meepmoop · 12/04/2018 21:18

I either feed to sleep or he lies with his head on my shoulder and rock him. He will scream and cry while I do it until he falls asleep. He never just drifts away to sleep.

I can't get DS to sleep. I've tried to feed to sleep twice but no luck. He's just messing about. He's been awake for hours so I don't understand we he won't fall asleep.

DiscombobulatedWomble · 12/04/2018 21:28

frozen how long does it normally take for her to drop off? I'm willing to try it but I honestly think dd will just fight it & wake herself/end up crying again. She moans when you leave her in one place for too long, she's always got to be looking at something new even when you can tell she's dead tired.. it's a nightmare. She doesn't have a dummy or a comforter really. Well, she's several comforters but none she actually seems to want to use as a comforter iyswim.

It's just taken me 3 & a half hours to get her in the cot. I'm now wondering if she just wants a later bedtime, but I'm terrified to try that incase it still takes 3+ hours & she doesn't go down until midnight :o

These babies ought to come out with personalised user manuals :(

DiscombobulatedWomble · 12/04/2018 21:31

meepmoop that's what we do.. and it still works fine during the day, but just this week come bedtime she's worked herself up to screaming for hours instead of just grumbling off to sleep on my shoulder I don't know what's going on :l

onone85 · 12/04/2018 21:43

@DiscombobulatedWomble when my DS was that age he was cuddled to sleep a lot. I just used to get comfy at nap time either on the sofa or bed and cuddle. If I did that now he'd act like I was torturing him 🙄
bedtime at night has always been a similar routine with the bath, lotion etc then would have half hour with books or blocks out (any toys that didn't sing or light up basically) then fed at the bedside and put down. He did well with this and used to just fidget a bit before dropping off but now, we'll I may aswell just give in.
He dropped his bedtime bottle, but wants one at stupid o clock instead, decided he was never going to sleep properly again and act like I was placing him in an acid bath every night rather than a cot.

We have Ewan with the white noise aswell.

UtterlyConfused111 · 12/04/2018 21:53

@onone85
The acid bath made me laugh; DD2 does that when she falls asleep in my arms and I try to put her down in the cot...
I have this feeling tonight is going to be a bad night. Don’t know why. But naps, food and bottles have been shit today; maybe a tooth is coming. She’s been happy but now eating at all...
Let’s see

FrozenMargarita17 · 12/04/2018 21:53

It depends really. Sometimes she decides she wants to play/roll about so I let her and keep my eyes shut and wait until she quietens down and then she will roll next to me, and play with my hair/hands/clothes/pillow and I can watch her eyes shut. I make sure the room is dark, she's in her sleeping bag and the white noise is on.

Bedtimes are the same except there's bath, bottle, bed and transfer. Just no white noise.

Worlds0kayestmum · 13/04/2018 02:54

Sorry I've been absent, I wish I could say it's because I've been enjoying night after night of restful sleep but actually, I've been too exhausted to muster the energy to type.

DS has been poorly, he's had a virus and been hitting the the high 39's with a temperature and struggling to breathe. We had to do a midnight dash to A&E the first night and then the next 4 nights he was up and down and kept getting a fever and his breathing would deteriorate. Thankfully he's over it now but I'm on my third night feed since going to bed. So tired, need sleep

Meepmoop · 13/04/2018 03:00

So DS randomly self settled after rolling around for 30mins and has slept for 5 hours. I'm not sure where my baby is because this one isn't mine. I upped his solid food today and he slept in his cot for naps for the first time so maybe that helped. Probably just an anomaly though.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 13/04/2018 04:01

So I have a long car trip stoday yo go down south for s family wedding. Naturally both DC see this as a challenge to rise to and have had bad nights. DD in with DH, DS as usual wakeful and refusing to sleep.

I don't want to go, just want to get the weekend over with. Can't feel excitement over it now, just dread over 48 hours of no sleep.
This is what sleep deprivation is doing to me. I've stopped enjoying life...

onone85 · 13/04/2018 19:17

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs hope you managed to enjoy the wedding and get some sleep tonight.

The myhummy is in place! I am hoping for a miracle and for £50 I expect one.

Here's to a good restful night for all.

FrozenMargarita17 · 13/04/2018 19:21

Ooh let me know how it goes. I really wanted a myhummy because it was the only one with continuous white noise..

Dd gone down after 45 mins. The dog discovered he can howl like a frigging wolf so kept waking her when she was almost gone. Going to throw him in the bin.

Dh stuck at work so just me for now 😬😬

Meepmoop · 13/04/2018 20:51

Does anyone else's LO have epic feeds at bedtime. DS just did another 40minutes!

Weaning babies, do you give dessert. I'm stuck for ideas as I used to give either rice pudding or yoghurt with fruit purée but DS has decided he doesn't like yoghurt. Rice pudding is still a winner (when his gran makes it as I make it like concrete)

FrozenMargarita17 · 13/04/2018 20:53

@Meepmoop I don't tend to give dessert, she barely eats food as it is. I give her lots of fruit in the day though

MummyCuddlesSolveEverything · 13/04/2018 21:26

meep ds does longer feeds at bed time, I think because he's sleepy not to fill him up...he's already on 2nd wake up and first feed of the night.
As food pudding I'm struggling to get D's to eat anything let alone add a pudding.

Worlds0kayestmum · 13/04/2018 21:45

Fruit puree or a biscuit here. Mainly though because he has really low iron levels and has had to have a blood transfusion so I'm happy if he eats an iron enriched biscuit. He's a rubbish eater alongside being a rubbish sleeper. But he's cute Grin

GinUnicorn · 13/04/2018 22:04

Only One wake up since 630. Maybe tonight will be better (hope springs eternal) 8 wake ups last night :(

Meepmoop · 13/04/2018 22:07

I must be lucky, most of the time if it's on a spoon DS will eat it. @MummyCuddlesSolveEverything maybe DS is the same just using me as a dummy to fall asleep to

Meepmoop · 14/04/2018 09:28

How did everyone's nights go? Fairly standard night here, 3 wake ups for small feeds.

tealandteal · 14/04/2018 09:42

onone interested to hear how the myhummy helps, I have been leaving my phone in DS room on flight mode with a white noise app on. It's stopped the 2.45am train waking him up but I don't want to always leave my phone up there!

meepmoop DS did a marathon feed before bed last night, I thought it might mean he was prepping to sleep longer but no! Lots of wake ups and a lovely chatty time 2-4am Confused

GinUnicorn · 14/04/2018 09:56

Mine was tough. She woke up 1030, then 2am, then 3am and decided 5am was playtime. Got her down for another hour and a half at 6am. Trying to persuade her to nap now zzzz

Jellybean2017 · 14/04/2018 11:45

Bad one here. Up coughing every hour... Ended up in with me at 2am. Then he was awake for an hour. And this morning fought his first nap so was awake for more than four hours... He's happy enough in the day but laying down in aggravating the cough I think... Not sure whether to book a Dr's appointment as he's had this cough for a few days now... Although Dh and I both had colds last week.

UtterlyConfused111 · 14/04/2018 20:31

@whoateallthepercypigs
Sleep deprivation is awful. When I read your post about not enjoying life it could have been me speaking. DH wants to go on holiday and away and do things on weekends and I just don’t want to do anything. The misery is just transported elsewhere; except it’s an extra challenge getting the DC to settle in a new place and cart around the travel cot (two of them) and steriliser and all that shit...it’s teally hard to enjoy life when there is no rest and no respite. Don’t beat yourself up. Having said that I hope the dc did settle for you and you are enjoying the wedding. And I hope even managed to get your mind off things for a bit. It’s ggruelling and so so relentless but one day it will stop and they will bloody aleep...

Haypanky · 14/04/2018 20:53

Re white noise, ds has got an old radio in his room that's unturned so just goes fkgssyjbdf all night long. Cheap fix ;)

Haypanky · 14/04/2018 20:54

It did randomly tune itself to terrible rap music once though, which he slept through ha ha ha
