New thread for night (and daytime!) chatter for those awake more than they'd like with a non sleeping baby/child 😊

My DS is five months. First baby likely to be only baby if I don't start getting more sleep He is a nap and sleep fighter but incredibly cute so I choose to forgive him 😂

Feed 3 here, I'm glad I went to bed when DS2 did, it's been every two hours.

Just doing the dreaded burping now, he usually sleeps through it with some writhing about when a burp is coming. I still have to do it or he wakes not long after with trapped wind, I can't wait til we are past it, it's the worst bit for me in the night

DS1 is crying out and coughing in his sleep, I hope he doesn't wake and need me to help him get back to sleep but this cold is horrible so I do feel for him.

Fingers crossed for the rest of the night....

Cariad1988 · 21/01/2018 02:55

DD doing better than I thought. Wake up #2. While at my mums she woke up every hour and it was getting worse every night. She's 11 months and had been doing 1-2 wakings a night previously. Must be something about her being in her own cot, there's nothing better than you're own bed!

AdorableMisfit · 21/01/2018 03:08

We're technically on wake up number 1 - baby let me sleep for an hour and a half from 11:30pm until 1 am. He's now been fed, changed, fed, changed... and is lying wide awake on my chest hiccupping. I tried putting him in his crib and turned the light out, but he started crying because he didn't want it to be dark, he wants to be able to look around. So lights on it is. I'm just waiting for him to decide he wants another feed and maybe then I'll be able to get him off to sleep.

Next to me, my husband is snoring.

HashtagTired · 21/01/2018 03:09

@Sakura03 I have the app too. It doesn't replace the book (more info in there) but it is a useful guide.

UtterlyConfused111 · 21/01/2018 03:11

Here...
Baby is in my arms. Waiting for a burp...gah...

Jellybean2017 · 21/01/2018 03:15

Back... Again 😭 worst night we have had in a while.

I'm on feed no. 1 which started at 1am after only 2 hours sleep. I'm very close to tears. DD1 has woken up for a second time tonight and has now started screaming (as opposed to crying). Poor thing is hysterical and OH is dealing. Everyone awake tonight!

xxrealistmumxx · 21/01/2018 04:11

On second feed, not sure what number wake up. Had one two hour stint which is marginally better than last night but it's safe to say the night generally ends for us from this time.

I always try to get a burp out after a feed but it doesn't always happen. Even when I can he'll still writhe around in discomfort. Fortunately he'll sleep through winding, it's the lying down that causes him to wake /writhe and cry out

With my other two, who fed to sleep, I either let them have a little comfort suck after burping to help them nod off or used a dummy.

xxrealistmumxx · 21/01/2018 04:12

Hope things have settled and you can get some shut eye zampaand Jellybean2017

Jellybean2017 · 21/01/2018 04:34

He's finally asleep again on my chest. Been awake since about 3... Going to lay him in bed next to me and hope we both get to sleep. Thanks @realistmum ☺

Wake up number 6 😫 wtf is with these babies?? This is ever hour. And t takes at least 30 minutes to get her back down.

Sakura03 · 21/01/2018 04:41

Ds woke at 4 am after 2 hrs 50 minutes, perfect timing as my left boob had started leaking so I've popped ds on and is pumping on the other.
HashtagTired ahh okay in that case I might look into getting the book.

I'm bloody hungry now but want up get back to bed... well ds is still attached to me so all depends on him really. I've started using a sleeping bag for him and he just looks so cute in it...

Jellybean2017 · 21/01/2018 05:34

Up again. This is ridiculous. DH is definitely getting woken up soon.

Morning everyone

Looks like there's been a few tough nights so far!!

My DS is 9weeks and only sleeps in our arms I feel I have tried everything to get him to sleep in Moses or next to me crib.. from hot water bottles , putting down when awake, when asleep, swaddling, just tucking in, sleeping bags , tilting crib, using wedge for basket (has reflux) the longest he's been lay in either since he was born has been about 30mins.

I'm exhausted taking in shifts with DH to hold him whilst he sleeps and I get first few weeks he needed to be close as was so new to the world and that was totally fine but now past 2month point and not being able to sleep next to DH at same time is exhausting and lonely and I just want to be able to put DS in the next to me crib I wouldn't even care if he woke up every 2hrs it would be a huge improvement to where we are currently!

Help?!

NinaMarieP · 21/01/2018 05:47

Crap day of (not really) napping = a crap night with waking every hour. He was fed at 10pm (our other problem is he won't go to bed on less than 6 feeds regardless of how long those feeds were, so getting in 6 before bed when he is happily going 4-4-5 hours during the day is hard) so has lasted to 5 but I'm knackered and have had him in my arms since 1am and it didn't really help. Just meant I didn't have to reach so far with the dummy.

Sakura03 · 21/01/2018 06:16

Gosh no wonder you are exhausted user1489931797, I wish I had any words of wisdom to give... have you asked your Health visitor for advice? I really hope someone will be able to help you on this!

Feed #2 here after 1 hour.... seriously boy you need loads more sleep (and so do I!!!)...

user1489931797 · 21/01/2018 06:46

@Sakura03 well when he was a few weeks old I'd mention it and she would respond with the usual it's understandable he just wants to be close blah blah

Now I feel he should be comfortable being in next to me crib atleast for an hour or 2

I'm going to mention again to HV though as I can't carry like this Sad

Also everyone how do you manage to stay awake sat up in bed during night feeds?!?!

I've found it much easier being downstairs with the tv to keep awake.

Meepmoop · 21/01/2018 06:49

Sorry to read everyone is not having the best night.

On wake up 5 but I've only fed twice. I've also had the elusive 4 hour block which has helped. DS now sleeping on me but smiling in his sleep, very cute.

Probably should put him in his cot and go back to bed but can't be bothered to get all snuggled in for him to wake up again

Tmgc123 · 21/01/2018 06:57

Wake up number 7.... I am tired. Hoping she’ll give me anouth 40mins before starting her day.

Emberblu · 21/01/2018 06:59

Ergh wake ups at 1 and put down at 2.30 only to wake up at 3.30. Fed lying down which I don't usually as I feel my small boobs mean I bend at an awkward angle. Suddenly I wake up at half 4 and we'd co slept for the past hour BlushConfused
well I've been awake since then but he slept for another hour and a half. Then I attempted to move him as my body was aching! He woke up of course then did a poo 💩
So now on feed 3 or 4 and looks like no more sleep for me 😫
Sounds like a few tougher nights out there Cake

Catscatsandmorecats · 21/01/2018 07:01

Oh user1489931797 that really is exhausting, I second asking the HV but see if there is one in.your area with reflux experience. Are you referred to a peadiatrician? If so they may also.be able to help. My friends recommended www.reflux.org.au as a good source of information.

I am in bed, on my own cosy and warm.in the dark and quiet after DH took both boys downstairs when they woke. DS1 slept through til nearly 6, still some work to do but loads better. And although none of my sleep was in longer than 1.5 hour blocks, I got a few more of them so it was a lot better. I can't sleep now though! Even with paracetamol my head is throbbing from the cold, I'm going to give it ten more minutes then go for a long steamy shower if I don't go back to sleep, at least that will unclog me a bit.

Sakura03 · 21/01/2018 07:38

And we are awake again after the grand total of 38 minutes... I’m debating whether to try and get down for another hour or make myself a coffee... I might go for the 💤

Meepmoop · 21/01/2018 07:40

Cats are fighting loudly outside which has set the dog off waking me and DS up! If it's not the baby it's the animals

Zampa · 21/01/2018 08:19

Sorry to see that a number of us had bad nights. Fingers crossed for a restful Sunday and helpful partners/elder children.

I'm doing my expenses and tax return today!

Tmgc123 · 21/01/2018 08:31

I was hoping the other half would take her off me for a bit so I could get a little sleep. He woke up and seemed to think he’d done the work. He’s now gone off to the toilet and shower. Thanks mate.
