My little boy is nine days old. He sleeps pretty well during the day but at night just wants to be held and breastfed. He doesn't settle in his moses basket at night (but he will quite often do so during the day)

Anyone else up doing the same?! I'm not keen on the idea of co-sleeping but would be grateful for any advice. Baby sleeps in a gro-snug and we have a dream sheep but I'm guessing this frequent feeding and love of cuddles in the night is probably just par for the course at this early stage? 😊 I am napping during the day so I'm probably averaging about 6 hrs sleep in a 24 hr period.

We've just had another feed and he's knackered yet fighting sleep. What the hell is this all about? He can hardly keep his eyes open, yet every time he seems to doze it last half a minute then they're wide open again.

AMagdalena · 25/09/2017 05:00

Anyone else been up pretty much all night?
My little girl has managed 3hrs held by my husband and now we're back to being wide awake for hours and 45min sllep cycles (really thought we were over them) 😑

My husband is off for 2 weeks now, so wants to make things easier for me. He's already frustrated and we're only on night 2! Lightweight Grin

NinaMarieP · 25/09/2017 05:15

I'm up again but did get 1.5 hours of sleep since the last feed. So not all night, just feels like it.

AMagdalena · 25/09/2017 05:33

1.5hrs would be amazing at this minute.
The 4.5hr stretches she did a few days back are such a distant memory now...
4 weeks till DD is 12 weeks! Fooling myself she will miraculously start sleeping better then Grin

NinaMarieP · 25/09/2017 05:45

Awful when they go backwards.

We've won on the decent bedtime and sleeping through the evening thing but we've created a monster who thinks that after 1am is day time...

verysleepymum · 25/09/2017 06:01

Nina maybe a growth spurt? Could last a few days and the be back to normal wishful thinking

Up for our 5:30am feed.

Flowers to non sleeping mamas, it it will hopefully pass soon!

yolkybokey · 25/09/2017 06:22

Was up for 2 hours feeding but he's since slept 2.5 hours and is having his morning feed now. So a pretty good night all in all
He keeps waking himself up with his own farts 😂

NinaMarieP · 25/09/2017 07:17

I got him in his basket at half six (so an hour and a half after waking). Congratulated myself and lay down.

Took ages to fall asleep - seriously, I'm knackered and yet can't drop off, why am I being tortured?

Slept for five minutes (I know it was that long as that's how much of my audiobook I missed) and LO woke himself and me up with his wind. So he's in bed with me again.

AMagdalena · 25/09/2017 09:30

Nina, my little one wakes her up with wind, too and 5 minutes before she passes stool. So annoying!
I ended up putting her in our bed at 5am as I had no energy to carry on with the put-down-eyes-wide-open malarkey.

Mumagain2017 · 27/09/2017 01:37

Hi guys

Hubby just woke me to settle her. She hasn't slept well this evening but we had a traumtic day as we had our dog put down so I'm wondering if she picked up on that.
Iv just put her on the boob so we will see if she settles. She had slept from 9.15pm to 12.30 but he put her down over the course of an hour and she kept waking instantly
Any tips for us???

NinaMarieP · 27/09/2017 02:18

Making sure she’s really cosy when you put her down, so she doesn’t miss your body heat.

White noise.

Swaddling if she startles herself awake by moving?

Sorry for your loss. I definitely think they pick up on stress and upset though. If I’m stressed about getting him to sleep then he definitely doesn’t go down so easily.

NinaMarieP · 27/09/2017 02:19

Last night was better - still went to bed really early and got a few hours before his first wake up, and we even managed a bit of a doze after his 7.30 feed.

Tonight he went from a feed at 8.30 through to 1.30 so it’s a good start!

Mumagain2017 · 27/09/2017 08:11

That's good Nina
After I settled her she slept till 5 then in bed with me for a laying down bf and sleep till 7ish.

It's survivable!

periwinkle1234 · 27/09/2017 09:05

Hello ladies, have been reading this thread in the middle of the night so thought it was time to join in! It had been a great comfort to hear from others in the same boat. I have a 6.5 week old little boy. We have a had two great nights in a row now. Asleep at 8. expressed bottle fed by dad at 12, bf at 3.30 and then we have to get him up at 6.30 so I can feed him before bringing my DD to school. Hopefully this is a turning point as we have had so many unsettled nights!!! He is now having one bottle of formula a day so not sure if that is helping. Well done everyone - it really is survival time!!!!

verysleepymum · 27/09/2017 10:49

Another 2am and 5am wake up last night. Seems to be a survivable pattern. Although I wish I could stop her being so grumpy in the evenings Sad. She is quite cute though she often wakes up at 7 and just lies there talking to herself. We can't sleep through it, but it is cute! In other news I accidentally got her to self settle, she was fussing and obviously tired and I was trying to be rock her to sleep (during the day) I was desperate for the loo so popped her in her Moses basket drowsy but awake for 5 mins, when I came back she was asleep!! Shock

Welcome peri!

verysleepymum · 27/09/2017 10:56

Ps sorry for your loss mumagain!! Flowers

AMagdalena · 27/09/2017 20:02

Glad to hear some of you are getting a bit more sleep!

No improvements at our end, unfortunately, but DD was diagnosed with reflux yesterday. GP thinks this is the reason for the frequent wakings and 30mins naps during the day unless held.
DD has her jabs yesterday, so we ended up co-sleeping from 3am, mainly because of me fretting she was going to run a fever.

We're picking up her reflux meds tomorrow. Hopefully they make a difference. It's awful to watch her wake up in pain or throw up as much as she does.

Lallypopstick · 27/09/2017 23:57

I thought we were in a pattern of sorts with bedtime around 8-9 each night. But here I am, scared to move the baby to his bed after a feed because the last few hours he’s woken up every time.

AMagdalena · 28/09/2017 00:41

Ha! I am contemplating DD down in her crib, too. She'a just had 3hrs with her dad, so I can get my 'guaranteed sleep', but I am not sure whether to risk her waking up 10s after I put her down...

AMagdalena · 28/09/2017 00:41

It should have read putting DD down...

Mumagain2017 · 28/09/2017 04:56

Thank you

Had a good 4 hour stretch till 1.30 am today then awake at 3.30 and now can't get her back off she is wide awake and wiggly

I'm meant to be going out next Friday night for my birthday with friends but not sure it's worth it if I'm.still waking up at least 2 times with her . Shock
She will be 8 weeks by then.

k567 · 28/09/2017 08:51

Well I don't think my baby slept for more than 20 mins at a time last night. So tired this morning I don't know how I'm supposed to function.

AMagdalena · 28/09/2017 09:50

Well, I put DD down in her crib last night, confident she'd do at least a couple of hours, but no! She woke up 20mins later having a poo Hmm

Lallypopstick · 28/09/2017 10:46

Mumagain 8 weeks wasn’t too bad for us sleep wise so you might be able to go out for a bit.

k567 that’s an awful night for you and the baby. Any ideas what’s up?

AMagdelana night poos are the worst as you can’t ignore them. Hope you got more sleep afterwards.

I’m wondering if we’re going through leap 3 a few days early. We got nearly 5 hours before first wake up, but then it was 90 minutes of sleep, wake up then an hour of sleep. Up at 7.15 and he’s just gone back to sleep about 45 minutes ago. Too long really.

NinaMarieP · 28/09/2017 11:05

Last night was fun!

I’m feeling rough with a sore throat, cough, sneezes and headache.

Managed to nap briefly in the evening even though my OH was at work then went to bed at 9 but didn’t sleep until after the next feed finished about 12.

Up again at 3.45, reasonable chunk of sleep and then it all went tits up.

LO peed through his vest and sleepsuit and left a patch on the sheet. Had to have a full change

He then threw up a boob and a half of milk as I winded him - all down my arm and leg and onto the sheets. It went through my mattress protector ffs.

Just as I was contemplating the mess, he filled his nappy so violently he needed another full change of clothes!

It’s just as well I didn’t change the sheet just for a bit of pee as I’ve only got two sheets (something I will remedy at the weekend!) for now I’m feeding him on a towel and winding him on a towel.

Got him all sorted with my OHs help, refed him, got him to sleep, and half an hour later he woke himself up with wind and was up and down for ages.

😩😩
