High-Need Baby Support Thread III

Well as I'm awake I thought I'd start thread 3!

The high-need baby thread has been moved from breast & bottle feeding to sleep. In the early days of the thread I think feeding was a significant issue for many of the posters. I think those that post regularly on the thread would now agree that's it's mainly sleep that's the issue.

So if your baby fits the following criteria come and join us for wine, chocolate, coffee and matchsticks as we delight in our active, inquisitive, curious and restless babies or toddlers!

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

Just to say - 3 doses of brufen.

Sun is nice here - got a different sun shade off ebay. Worked a treat yesterday at the school fete.

Think dd1 has the same virus though QK. She's a bit rotten. At least being nearly an adult she can take decent decongestants!

Thanks guys. He's been clingy and sleepy all day. Just gone down to bed now so hopefully he'll sleep it off.

Are you lot alright though?

bishboschone · 27/05/2012 19:14

Hi bish. My DS screamed a lot when he was tiny. He's mostly happy during the day now though. He just doesn't sleep.

Well it's my birthday today and I've had a lovely day in the sun. DS has started biting when feeding though and I'm very sore. Off to put him to bed but will catch up on the rest of the posts later.

He is 11 months but was 7 weeks prem and very poorly with reflux . He has always cried alot and I would say he is high needs but he has slept through the night since he was 12 weeks . And I mean properly 7-7 no feeds or waking. So doesn't fit with one of the criteria. He is fabulous at night but cries alot during the day and need constant amusing and attention to stop it. Also hates being in the buggy for any length of time ( as did my dd) . He will sleep in the buggy but normally only after alot of crying.

Oh she is 8 ( took me a long time to be brave enough to do the whole birth thing again) !! She is very bright and was similar to him but he is very difficult to please . The junperoo is an absolute god send but my days are just constant cajoling to keep him from crying . He cries when I'm out of eyesight as well which doesn't help. Yes I'm lucky he sleeps but I need those 12 hours to recover for the next! Wink

Please can I join? 4yo dd and nearly 6mo old ds he's so hard, has a couple of 10min naps during the day. Will only go to sleep on the boob. Hate his pram. 9 times out of 10 when I put him in bed at night he opens his eyes as soon as I put him down and I have to start all over. He wakes every 45- 4hours then will spend the next 1-3hours getting him back down. I get anywhere from 3-6 hours sleep a night. On the very very odd (once every week maybe) I'll get 7hours per night sleep. I take it out on dh and dd :( I feel like a shit. Am starting to get angry at ds at night. If I'm not angry i cry.

I am petrified of SIDS and when I get angry/upset with him I feel like I'm taking him for granted and worry something will happen to him (irrational I know).

He only wants me. Dh tries his hardest to calm him but makes it worse.

I'm just so tierd

Quick Q.... Ds started to do the dreaded biting- and laughing game. I stopped the feed, and plan to continue to stop as soon as he bites. Thankfully, I haven't screamed as I'm convinced it would make it even funnier for himAngry. Anyway, with the not finishing a feed, would my supply be affected?? I'm already feeling that it's dipped in general anyway tho....

Grin Ds started walking today!GrinGrin Took us by surprise- don't think even he realised!! This was after an unsuccessful attempt at putting him to bed... He must've known there was something he'd forgot to do today!!!

Hooray for BabyMampig Grin Well done!

Sleep still rotten here, but at least he didn't get us up till about 5.50am rather than 4am. Trying to cut his morning nap down a bit and make it later. Got him to go till 8am before his nap now and we've been trying to wake him after an hour but he's soundo :( Hate waking him but definitely want to try to stop him waking so early and push hs bedtime back as at the moment it is 6pm. Things can't get much worse, so we'll try anything.

Haven't done any sleep training yet. Waiting till he's in his own room first, but not sure I'll have the stomach for it anyway... :(

Good about the appointment Joyful but poo about the date/time :(

Hope everyone is ok.
