High-Need Baby Support Thread III

TitaniaP · 01/04/2012 06:32

Well as I'm awake I thought I'd start thread 3!

The high-need baby thread has been moved from breast & bottle feeding to sleep. In the early days of the thread I think feeding was a significant issue for many of the posters. I think those that post regularly on the thread would now agree that's it's mainly sleep that's the issue.

So if your baby fits the following criteria come and join us for wine, chocolate, coffee and matchsticks as we delight in our active, inquisitive, curious and restless babies or toddlers!

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

Did someone say wine?

Nice one Puddle, you can add published social commentator to your CV! Sorry you had such a rubbish night last night though. How are DD & DS today?

Button - typical babies, they like to keep us guessing don't they?

Well DS is poorly again. Nasty cough, streaming nose, a bit of puke and a runny bum. I think it's a nasty cough cold rather than a tummy bug, but he's really grumpy and keeps coughing and then crying poor thing. No sleep again for me then!

Basks in reflected glow from joyful Smile

DS had a very pukey day too titania - have upped his reflux meds to max. Again. I, on the other hand, have had a very good day. Had much less tea than normal and ate well all day. I'm hoping that he might start sleeping better as I think no sleep = no willpower where I'm concerned!

tickleme63 · 01/05/2012 05:34

Mmm yummy. A 4.50am start and cross words with hubby. Perfect start to the day.

jan2011 · 01/05/2012 08:01

joyful so sorry you went through all that... the justice system is seriously screwed

button i hear ya about losing weight mine has crept up and i am emotionally eating at times so can't figure out what to do about it - getting out for a walk requires much motivation at the minute and that is not enough to do anything for me as i used to do proper workouts! i am sure you can do it...you have your goal in mind, its coming into the summer so perfect time to start a healthy plan, good luck

tickleme take courage you are dealing with so much right now and we love you (kind words to make up for cross words!)

dh and me been doing a bit better - but it has all hit me hard and im finding it hard to climb out of a hole? all i want to do is curl up all day, but my friend is picking us up for a coffee so that will help lift me i hope even though im really not in the mood to go out. how do people keep going? :)

TitaniaP · 01/05/2012 12:35

Button I need to join you on that diet. I was doing really well and have lost 1.5 stone, but it's slowed right down. I feel rubbish at the mo too (have DS' very nasty cough). I just want to eat crap at the mo. On the plus side DS is feeding like a newborn which'll help with the weight loss.

On a plus note I've ordered a custom half buckle sling/ mei tai (softai) which I'm very excited about!!

How do people keep going? Me - walks and chocolate!

and the chocolate means I now weigh what I did straight after birth... I had lost a stone :(

jan2011 · 01/05/2012 17:46

littlewavey i weigh more than what i did straight after birth...i weigh more than i have in like 7 years! scaryyyyy but we have good excuse!
i have zumba dvds....

i got through today by having lots of hot chocolate and a bath with dd - she is so clingy at the minute its driving me nuts - if i lay her down at all she will cry, i worried its maybe her reflux starting again as we tried to cut down on the meds she was on.

LittleWaveyLines · 01/05/2012 21:14

jan - my DD has only just stopped crying every tome vshe's put ndown and she's 10 months!

Sorry for typos - in dark one handed....

jan2011 · 02/05/2012 05:36

ah that must be hard....mine did for the first few months, but hasn't been as bad since. im hoping she's not going back to that.

hope everyone's nights were ok ... ive given up on any more sleep
we see the marriage counsellor today, im praying it will go ok

buttonmoon78 · 02/05/2012 07:14

Good luck x

tickleme63 · 02/05/2012 09:05

Good luck Jan, thinking of you. Titania Hope both your coughs get better soon. DS is still struggling with his, bless, but he's back at nursery now and seems happy enough - apparently the only time he cried yesterday was when the staff tidied away the musical instruments :)

He actually surprised up last night. Settled himself to sleep at 6.30pm. Woke coughing at 8.30, but DH comforted him to sleep. Then he woke at 11.30pm for milk, and then woke at 2am but when I tried to feed him his nose was blocked and so we managed to settle him without milk. Then he woke at 4.30am, had a bit of milk, and then went back to sleep till 7am. I feel like I've been spoilt sleep-wise Grin Nice to know that he will settle sometimes (but not often) without a feed. Can't wait for his cold to fully pass though. He wakes up every morning with a massive crust under his nose poor lamb.

Hope you all have nice days.

Throughgrittedteeth · 02/05/2012 18:49

I feel a bit of a fraud as my DS doesn't cover any of the criteria of the group but he wake very frequently through the night. I hope its OK to join you all :)

buttonmoon78 · 02/05/2012 18:59

Welcome! My ds is mostly over the items mentioned in the first post, and I think we're all too tired lovely to say that you have to fulfil all the criteria!

Anyway, welcome to tour lovely lovely thread where we get to whinge, cheer, cry, congratulate etc to our collective hearts' content.

Jan hope today went ok.

Throughgrittedteeth · 02/05/2012 19:06

Thank you! Well I'll start by saying that DS (9mo) woke up 6 times last night. Then ending up in with us til 6.30 when he slapped me awake for the day.
He nearly ended up in a charity bag after that.

QueenKong · 02/05/2012 19:12

Grin @ ThroughGrittedTeeth

Welcome!

DS is toying with me. After letting DH settle him to sleep all last week, he is now only willing to sleep next to The Boob. I had arranged a night out and everything. Sad

Throughgrittedteeth · 02/05/2012 19:21

Oh Queen that sucks. Could you not fashion a cushion to look like The Boob and slip out? Have some Wine on me.

QueenKong · 02/05/2012 19:47

Hrmph. I am feeding up DH in the hope he'll develop a set of moobs and share the load.

tickleme63 · 02/05/2012 19:51

Grin Throughgrittedteeth Welcome!

:( Queen

TitaniaP · 02/05/2012 19:51

Throughgrittedteeth, you're definitely welcome if you bring wine.

The only criteria should be that you are not allowed to say "just leave him to cry", "you're spoiling him by picking him up all the time", "he should be sleeping on his own/through the night by now".
