Oh I'm not saying that a lot of the fireworks they let off around here wouldn't wake me up, I'm sure they would but they stop before I go to bed. In fact if it makes you feel any better two years ago on New Year's Eve I was pregnant and not feeling great so went to bed before midnight. And yes you guessed it I was woken up by fireworks going off at midnight for a good hour! DS meanwhile slept through it all with no problem.

ooo... a loud fireworks babies can't sleep rant. can i join in? our neighbours moved away this week and rented their house out to 3 20-ish year old lads. they moved in yesterday. the first thing they did? threw a massive fireworks party in the garden last night. luckily for them they stopped the fireworks at 10.40pm cos i was all ready to call the coppers to report them if they went over the 11pm ban. hope they will go party elsewhere tonight or else.....

so sad. used to really love fireworks. still love them i guess so long as there is no crying baby sounds in the background.

i thought they changed the law to be 9pm this time of year

I have sent dh off to get foam ear plugs for the kids. I'm dreading tonight. It was bad enough last night.

I totally agree that there should be a ban on anything other than council displays.
Failing that, the non-nosy fireworks can be sold privately, but not the ones which make your neighbourhood sound like Beirut.

I think they have a really sinister vibe about them actually. It is gunpowder after all.

spidermama · 05/11/2005 14:21

I, for one, am praying for a downpour.

Spidermama, you must be on very good terms with the Big Weatherman! Oop north at least, the forecast is gonna be wet wet wet. I'm not so happy though, as I have 6 kids and their parents coming round for pre-big-community bonfire food and was counting on dry weather so we could sit outside round my wood-burner and have sparklers.

madmarchflare · 05/11/2005 15:42

Well if anyones praying for rain, can you at least make sure it doesnt between 6.30 - 7, not too much to ask for surely? . It DSs first real bonfire outing and it would be much more manageable if dry. Thank you.

Please don't pray for rain. We're taking DD to her first ever firework display and it would ruin it if it were to pour down on us.

pfer · 05/11/2005 20:18

Right, that's it! Am fetching the shotgun, the deer stalker hate, the tweed jacket with elbow patches and hunting for anyone letting off fireworks within a two mile radius of my house!

AARRGHHHHH. DH is in bed with DS1 who is scared, luckily managed to keep DS2 awake all day in the hope that he'd be so banjaxed he'd sleep well -seems to be working so far.

Gem754 · 05/11/2005 20:26

DD is only 6 weeks so not bothered by fireworks. Have said for years that there should only be organised displays and they shouldn't be sold to the public. It's explosives for crying out loud, and as much as the retailers try to stop them from getting into irrasposible hands, it's not possible.

Besides, IMHO an organised display is not only cheaper but also better than the ones you buy from the newsagent.

Will stop ranting now.

WigWamBam · 05/11/2005 20:29

It's like a war zone outside at the moment; one of our neighbours is using display fireworks and they're so loud it feels as if we're being bombed. The cat is freaking out, I'm freaking out ... these enormous fireworks shouldn't be used in gardens, they really shouldn't.

spidermama · 05/11/2005 20:32

Same here WWB. Something has to be done about this. My 7 year old dd is hating it. Every bang makes her jump. I've put earplugs in but they keep falling out.

pfer · 05/11/2005 20:34

DH has managed to cuddle DS1 to sleep bless him...hopefully will stay that way

pfer · 05/11/2005 20:34

don't know why that happened

spidermama · 05/11/2005 20:43

My ds 2 (5) has come downstairs crying and saying every time he closes his eyes he sees pictures of himself with a blackened, burnt face.

Earlier he was in the back garden watching the fireworks and pretending he was a wartime child fleeing the fighting.

I can't help thinking about people in Baghdad or Beiruit and Gaza and imagining the terror they feel. I really believe fireworks are in very bad taste. How come they're allowed in gardens? What shall we do about it? There must be a campaign.

pfer · 05/11/2005 20:44

Spidermama - I agree. Your poor DS must be really frightened inside , give him a big cuddle from me......

spidermama · 05/11/2005 20:46

These people appear to want a ban.

Tbh, an online petition would be far easier wouldn't it? Will try to find one.

pfer · 05/11/2005 20:47

let me know if you find one

bonym · 05/11/2005 20:50

Took me an hour to get dd2 (7mths) to sleep tonight. She usually goes down without a murmur. I knew we'd have problems and we considered going away but didn't get our act together in time.

Just hoping she doesn't wake up again...

Groggymama · 05/11/2005 20:57

how the hell am I going to get the kids to sleep now?

pfer · 05/11/2005 20:57

I'm getting REALLY pi*ed off now. They are just a bunch of selfish w**ers who have no consideration for anyone but themselves!! Excuse my language but I'm a bit angry. DH is starting to look a little miffed too.

They're just getting louder and louder - not even pretty anymore - just loud
