I overdosed my dogs with Bach's rescue remedy at 10:00 as I couldn't deal with the noise and the barking. They have been quiet since... have I killed them? Oh dear better go down to check...

Chandra · 06/11/2005 01:16

P.S. The news you posted aout says that banning them would make the things worse, BIG LIE, they are banned in my country (only authorised for public display when a fire works specialist is present, provided they get a permit), and definitively we don't have to deal with days and days of noise (and people being injured by stupid yobs blowing up wheelie bins and telephone boxes).

I think they should be more controlled.

HRHQoQ · 06/11/2005 01:35

but Chandra - people have called for the banning (in this story) because of an accident that has happened.

Even with the rules as they are where you live, this could still have happened, it was at a display put on by a professional pyrotechnics group

Chandra · 06/11/2005 01:40

Oh yes, they DO happen from time to time, but in general the days when all the country gets into the firework frenzy are just that, days, not weeks before and after a particular date.

sparklymieow · 06/11/2005 01:50

I took my kids to a oragnised display. They loved it, though as we were walking from my sister's house to the lakes, I saw many houses having their own displays, why?? When they have a huge display just down the road??? I like fireworks in a controlled display, but I do think they should be banned for public use

PARP!

Enid · 06/11/2005 09:42

parp

crazydazy · 06/11/2005 09:46

The fireworks didn't bother my kids at all. On Friday we went to a pub bonfire and DS (3) still went to sleep in his buggy at his normal bedtime (7.30) just before the fireworks started and then didn't wake up even when they did!!!!!!

It now begs the question - why do we creep around the house at night trying not to disturb them???

Blandmum · 06/11/2005 09:47

Wasn't there a real dip in the personal use of fireworks in the 80s?

THings seem to have picked up again, and this time the rockets etc seem to be larger and more powerful.

The rockets that we had as kids were tiddly little things compared to the ones that they sell now.

That said, as children we would spend the weeks up to the 5th collecting money, 'penny for the guy' and would then buy fireworks ourselves! None of this having to be an adult stuff in the 60s!

highlander · 06/11/2005 12:15

I Live in Newcastle and they finally stopped at 11pm last night. F*cking furious, they should be banned after 8pm.

WigWamBam · 06/11/2005 12:35

They finally stopped at 1.30 this morning here. That's three times this week it's been after midnight when the fireworks have stopped.

HRHQoQ · 06/11/2005 12:45

We had a few going off (over on the Queensway estate it sounded like) at 2.30 this morning !

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 06/11/2005 12:48

well i must have strange babies!!!

Both slept through 2 nights of constant fireworks (and actually slept better than they do any other night!) and even me and DH were in bed by 8.30pm and slept through them!!!

WigWamBam · 06/11/2005 18:28

The stupid, arse-witted, moronic pilchards whose garden backs onto ours and who were blasting us with fireworks for an hour and a half last night have just started up again

Some arse-wipes just have more money than sense.

And you can parp as much as you like; not much psses me off but I'm seriously pssed off with this.

troublesmummy · 06/11/2005 18:31

Actually, enough though i was complaining yesterday about it, ds didn't wake up at all. Shockingly enough. He actually slept a lot better than he has done recently.

Groggymama · 06/11/2005 18:32

has anyone else been sweeping up the debris in their back yard today?

spidermama · 06/11/2005 22:26

Well I;m still absolutely bloody furious about last night. It was like Fcking Beirut and Gaza in Brighton. I remember lying in bed last night with a temperature and hearing a series of incredible bangs at 1.30AM* ffs. And that was with earplugs in.

Tonight's display, for which I bought tickets, was cancelled because it has pissed down all day here.

I was so relieved as I'd been dreading it. (on my own, 4 kids including a baby, temperature etc).
The kids were very sad so now, of course, I have guilt. Great!

hunkermunker · 06/11/2005 22:28

Oh...my...God.

How many bangs can one firework make?!

It started three minutes ago. It's still going. One or two bangs a second.

Either that or someone's being murdered to death in a big way in our back garden.

spidermama · 06/11/2005 22:35

Pray for rain Hunkermunker.
I've had a terrible couple of nights in a war zone but all seems quiet tonight. So far.

The bangs are so violent and loud. I was actually having hormonal reactions last night despite myself. I was startling and producing adrenalin.
