oh I love them (with a 12 and 9 year old happily ignoring them in the background)

troublesmummy · 04/11/2005 19:43

Yeah tell me about it! They've just started going off and ds is in bed, but not asleep yet, so i'm just waiting for the screaming to start!! Oh the joys!!

Gobbledigook · 04/11/2005 19:43

Agree - my kids can't get to sleep either. Doing my brain in. Why tonight when bonfire night is a Saturday anyway? I agree there should be a ban. Poor little cowering animals too.

Stilltrue · 04/11/2005 19:48

Oh I so agree ! It's been building up here all week. Tonight is bad and I'm dreading tomorrow!

soapbox · 04/11/2005 19:50

Mine are a bit older so we are enjoying all teh displays tonight. However, DS still doesn't like the noise so DH has found him some ear defenders, so he is now as happy as larry

DD has always liked them even as a baby, wheras DS has never been happy with loud noises. We have spent many fireworks evening pacifying a distraught DS so do know exactly how you feel!

snufflepuss · 04/11/2005 19:53

Thank god. I thought it was just me that hated fireworks. It sounds like a war zone here with loud bangs every few minutes. Let's see how the dd's do cos the cat is bricking it!!! I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow (heeheehee) I doubt it will stop them round here as they are a very tenacious lot

Bozza · 04/11/2005 20:05

We have one of these threads every year. And every year I post that my two are in bed asleep despite the fireworks that are going off all around and have been for days.

pfer · 04/11/2005 20:24

Amazingly it's not been too bad here this year. Though DS1 has had a scary episode when he flung himself face down on the sofa screaming because the really loud banging noises outside where scaring him. Explained about fireworks etc but he def. doesn't like them. DS2 sleeps like a damned cat and wakes up if you breath so it's not a good time of year .

I think they should only be available to organised displays - kids here play with them in the park and garden of rest etc when they shouldn't be.

HRHQoQ · 04/11/2005 20:26

Tomorrow is supposed to be p*ssing with rain, so if you've got a small (moveable) display tonights the night.....also easier for schools etc to do it on a Friday night, as the school has already been open

HRHQoQ · 04/11/2005 20:27

Bozza - snap - just come back from a display - but there's still loads of massive ones going off around, put the boys to bed 25 minutes ago, and 10 minutes later there was silence - so they're in the land of nod

SoupDragon · 04/11/2005 20:31

Parp!

Even when I was younger, the displays weren't all on Nov 5th. And did you not enjoy them then?? There are far worse things to worry about IMO

pfer · 04/11/2005 20:33

Soupdragon - I don't think it's coz we don't like 'em, but that it's a pain in the arse coz the kids can't sleep.

HRHQoQ · 04/11/2005 20:34

I never had a problem sleeping as a child with fireworks going on - and neither do my children

pfer · 04/11/2005 20:36

HRH - hate you

SoupDragon · 04/11/2005 20:40

DSs (6 & 4) both came back absolutely hyper from a birthday party at 7:30 and were asleep in bed within 15 mintues, depite all the bangs.

And yes, I am well aware how lucky this makes me

pfer · 04/11/2005 20:43

Soupdragon - hate you too.

SoupDragon · 04/11/2005 20:43
Grin
Bozza · 04/11/2005 21:16

Do kids really not sleep? Honestly DS has seen 5 bonfire nights and DD is on her second and not once has either of them been affected.

madmarchflare · 04/11/2005 21:17

DS not bothered, they just annoy me. Thats it now til New Years bloody eve.

pfer · 04/11/2005 21:29

I think our prob. is mainly because we've got some gits that live about 5 doors down that let off those stupid banging repeaters that are mega loud without even being pretty.

pfer · 04/11/2005 21:30

not just at bonfire night either - any excuse.

madmarchflare · 04/11/2005 21:32

That would really pee me off. I take it they arent really approachable?

pfer · 04/11/2005 21:35

Don't appear to be there most of the time, don't see them much - work away during the week and don't come back every weekend. Just when they let fireworks off. But fingers crossed have not seen them yet this week so am hoping they've decided to go elsewhere to make lots of noise.

clock · 05/11/2005 12:34

Well glad you have all neavy sleepers. Light sleepers run in our family and the bangs do effect our kids not sleeping, even if they are worn out. I am awake with any slight noise as is my mum, her mum and my kids
I live by 2 schools and football ground and lake were they all carry out firework displays and that's not for all the houses that decide to endanger themselves. Yes i was p....d off last night. Did anyone have eggs thrown at there windows this year. I have never had that problem before. But i think i must have been feeding my daughter when they knocked.
