HELP! 9 month old getting worse not better.

DD has always been a terrible sleeper. I joked before she was born that I was due a non-sleeping baby this time after DS who slept through from 8 weeks and it really has come true.

After months of struggle, we'd finally gotten to the point where she was finally having 1 nap in the day then having a BF at 7pm and going to bed and waking at 1.30-ish for a feed then sleeping till 5.30-ish for a feed and being wide awake from then until her nap. We weaned at 5 months on the advice of the HV because she wasn't napping during the day at all! She now eats really well.

Again on the HV's advice, 4 days ago, I added a FF at bedtime along with her BF. She's never taken a bottle - just screams if you put one in her mouth - so we've been giving "bedtime milk" from a tippy cup. She maybe takes an ounce or two before she cries for boob at which point I BF her to sleep as normal. But since then, her sleep has gotten even worse. We now have the 7pm feed, an 11pm feed, then the 1am feed and an extra 3am feed before the 5.30 wake up. The only bonus is that her nap has extended to more like 90 mins most days.

So I'm giving up on the HV and asking MN - what do I do now? Do I ditch the FF or should I give it a few more days to see if she settles? Is there anything else i can do to encourage her to sleep through - or at least go back to just 2 wakes? DH, DS and I are all desperate for a full nights sleep now

Any advice would be appreciated

She'll be ok I've some good medicine here for her Grin and being 3 she's a gem at taking medicine now and going back to sleep etc.

Lovin' the new nickname Grin

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 17/10/2010 07:40

2 disturbed nights now.

Friday night she woke at 10pm, 3am, and was up at 5.15

Last night she woke at 11.30pm and was up at 5.30.

DS was up early both day too as he's really struggling with this cold. So glad DH is on holiday next week so I'll have some help.

How is your DD bloodandsnakes?

Bloodandsnakesplease · 17/10/2010 09:32

Her cold is definitely improving now. She gave it to me though, so now I'm the snotty one! LOL Smile

Last night sounded vaguely better? Glad you'll have some help from your H this week. You must be exhausted.

BlueChampagne · 18/10/2010 12:53

DS2 starting to sound chesty so it's going to be back to the Dr with us, and he's off his solids. Mind you, only woke 11pm and 3.30pm.

Not helped by next door neighbour having mental health issues and talking/shouting/playing her piano in the middle of the night. Last night DH had to bang on her door at 2.30am to ask her to be quiet. Life's obviously hard for her but stressful for us too.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 18/10/2010 21:04

We had screaming between 3 and 4am and then she woke at 5 to 6 for a feed. I took her back to bed with me because it was cold and I was so tired and we fell back to sleep until DS woke us at 7.30!

Not the best plan but I feel so much better for the sleep.

I'm really hoping these night wakes stop again soon.

Sorry you're feeling poorly bloodandnsakes, I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear about your neighbour too BlueChampagne. I hope you get a better night tonight.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 19/10/2010 20:43

Screaming again this mornning from 5 till I got her up for a feed at 6am

Just as I think we've cracked it, it all goes wrong again.

Teaandcakeplease · 19/10/2010 21:00

Oh no! Sad

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 20/10/2010 06:53

Gave up and fed her at 5.30 this morning.

Got to get her to wait till 6 but she wakes DS too with her screaming.

DH currently in trouble too. He had a 2 hour lie in yesterday morning and it seems he's getting the lie in today too Angry

Teaandcakeplease · 20/10/2010 07:59

I feel your pain, my H was rubbish about letting me catch up on my sleep. Ah well send in your older DC to jump on him in a bit Wink

My two DCs share a room, so when one wakes, they wake the other. I do love the fact they share most of the time but like you, I need to rush in to settle one, so they do not wake the other [hhmm]

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 20/10/2010 09:40

He has been warned that tomorrow is my day and has agreed.

I'm off out tonight to his sisters Jamie Oliver at Home party. I'm chauffeuring his Mum there and back so can't leave until she is drunk enough ready to go, which will inevitably be late so I will miss my early night while being pressured into buying stuff I don't need and watching MIL, both SIL's and all their super skinny friends get tipsy - I think I will have earned my lie in.

I'll feed DD but then she's all his [hgrin]

BlueChampagne · 20/10/2010 12:59

Have received apologetic email from neighbour which is a start. Probably owed her an apology after Monday night as we had over an hour of crying from DS2. He's got a nasty cough which is a bit chesty but at least his appetite has returned.

Cough makes it hard for him to resettle, but last night we had 11pm (and quickly back to bed) then 4.15-5.10am - but at least he wasn't crying for the duration! Fingers crossed he gets better not worse, as he was one of last winter's bronchy babies (8 days in PICU).

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 22/10/2010 22:39

Glad you got an apology (even if it was emailed!) Blue. Hope DS gets better soon.

We seem to be back to 5.30/5.45 wake ups which is an improvement. Hoping it lasts this time!

She has begun biting me when feeding though. Beginning to dream about weaning her onto cows milk. She's not going to like it.

Teaandcakeplease · 23/10/2010 23:13

Oh cripes when my 2 DC started biting I found it very hard. Wish I'd discovered kellymom at that point.

Hope it stops soon x

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 24/10/2010 19:03

You've changed your name back!

I'll have a look at Kellymom, thanks for reminding me. I always forget about it. TBH I think I'm almost ready to quit anyway. I just feel like I want my body back now. I bought myself a lovely dress the other day and it wasn't until I got it home that I realised that I couldn't wear it - at least not without hoisting it all up to boob height whenever she wanted a feed - and was really upset. I'm keeping it for when she is finished but I'm definitely looking forward to the end now...

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 26/10/2010 08:27

Really tired today.

DS has a cough that kept him up and coughing until the small hours. DD slept through it all so she was ready to get us up nice and early this morning.

I could have cried when she started crying at 5.30am Sad

Teaandcakeplease · 26/10/2010 09:30

Sad Yep I had a horrid night too. DS woke and wouldn't settle back to sleep. He has a cold. Even warm milk and calpol didn't work. He just kept standing up in his cot whimpering until I came in and hugged him for about an hour. DD also woke several times as she also has a cold and hurt her mouth yesterday at the playground and it's sore. So I felt like a jack in the box last night, in and out of bed for one or other of them.

Hope the biting is easing off x

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 26/10/2010 09:44

DS is really quite poorly. Took him to the doctors yesterday who said it was just a cough. We did the whole steam inhalation, Olbas Oil, raised bed, Calpol, warm drinks by the bed last night but he was still unsettled and today he's been napping on the sofa for most of the morning.

Gave him Calpol half an hour ago and have just taken his temp - 39.2!!

We're back off to the doctors at 11.30. Had plans for today and tomorrow but I think we'll be staying home and watching a lot of movies instead.

Sorry you're having bad nights too. It's awful when they're ill isn't it

Teaandcakeplease · 26/10/2010 09:58

Oh dear the poor thing Sad Hope he gets better soon and if it is something the GP needs to prescribe antibiotics for - this time they actually do it! Poor wee thing.

Mine aren't that ill just snot monsters and grumpy.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 26/10/2010 10:10

He was sat on my knee and wet himself a little - he's been potty trained for over a year but he's just so groggy. I took him upstairs to change his clothes and take him to the loo and he's vomited all over the bath mat!!

Poor baby. He just does't know what to do with himself.

DD is being lovely. Amusing herself and letting me look after DS.

Doctor checked him over yesterday and said it was just a cough. No chest infection and no temperature. Looks like I took him a day too early as I think he has both now!

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 26/10/2010 12:29

Doctor says Acute Tonsillitis Sad

He's so concerned about his temp, I have to take him back later today for another check over too.

He's had Neurofen on top of his Calpol and his first dose of Penicillin and is now sleeping on the sofa which I hover over him watching like a hawk - he's never had Penicillin before.

DD has finally fallen asleep and is now missing lunch. Today is going to be no fun at all.

Oh, and I have a sore throat too

Teaandcakeplease · 26/10/2010 12:33

Grab a lemsip and put your feet up whilst you can!

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 26/10/2010 12:35

I would but she's up again. 10 minutes of nap all day so far. Alex's crying put her off her nap earlier and it's all been downhill since.

Teaandcakeplease · 26/10/2010 12:45

Cbeebies and Disney day?

24 hrs once the antibiotics work and things will get better, maybe she'll nap later like she does sometimes.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 26/10/2010 13:02

Definitely. He's already watched Shark Tale this morning. He was stood at the doctors with his head rested on the chair and his eyes closed, I'm not sure he's up to anything but TV today Sad

Mummy has treated herself to a fried egg sandwich and feels a bit better now too.

Teaandcakeplease · 26/10/2010 19:53

Hope you survived today and are putting your feet up now!
