HELP! 9 month old getting worse not better.

DD has always been a terrible sleeper. I joked before she was born that I was due a non-sleeping baby this time after DS who slept through from 8 weeks and it really has come true.

After months of struggle, we'd finally gotten to the point where she was finally having 1 nap in the day then having a BF at 7pm and going to bed and waking at 1.30-ish for a feed then sleeping till 5.30-ish for a feed and being wide awake from then until her nap. We weaned at 5 months on the advice of the HV because she wasn't napping during the day at all! She now eats really well.

Again on the HV's advice, 4 days ago, I added a FF at bedtime along with her BF. She's never taken a bottle - just screams if you put one in her mouth - so we've been giving "bedtime milk" from a tippy cup. She maybe takes an ounce or two before she cries for boob at which point I BF her to sleep as normal. But since then, her sleep has gotten even worse. We now have the 7pm feed, an 11pm feed, then the 1am feed and an extra 3am feed before the 5.30 wake up. The only bonus is that her nap has extended to more like 90 mins most days.

So I'm giving up on the HV and asking MN - what do I do now? Do I ditch the FF or should I give it a few more days to see if she settles? Is there anything else i can do to encourage her to sleep through - or at least go back to just 2 wakes? DH, DS and I are all desperate for a full nights sleep now

Any advice would be appreciated

Survived. Just.

I've been giving him Calpol, Nurofen and AB's since we got back from the doctors and about 3pm, they kicked in and he's seemed almost back to normal since. I've washed most of the sicked on things too. DD finally had a nap around 4pm and we did bedtime a little late after DS and I got back from our second doctors trip so she wasn't too hard to get to sleep in the end.

Ready for bed now though. Just got online supermarket shop to do...

Light at the end of the tunnel and it's not an oncoming train Smile

Sleep well x

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 27/10/2010 06:59

Well, it took us a while to get him settled last night but once we had, he slept through the whole night until DD woke everyone at 5.20.

An early start but a better nights sleep than I had been expecting.

Canceling all plans for today and having a quiet day in today. Need him to be better before our big trip to London next Monday!

Teaandcakeplease · 27/10/2010 11:59

Anything nice planned in London?

Glad you all slept well, despite the early wake up. Maybe you should try wake to sleep with DD, as it always seems to be the same time everyday now roughly doesn't it? With the clocks changing soon you'll be exhausted Shock

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 27/10/2010 13:27

Yep, just gone 5 every morning Sad I've got to try something!!

Will go look up wake to sleep...

We're going to London to meet Oliver Jeffers. He is an artist but also writes children's books. Our favourites are 'Lost and Found', 'Catch a Star' and 'The Way Back Home' Would highly recommend them.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 28/10/2010 12:24

Was really excited this morning as I got DD down for her 9.30 nap at 9.30! She then slept for 2 hours and only woke cause the postman rang the doorbell - delivery my lovely new Buggysnuggle :) - She felt hot so I took her tempt...

39 degrees [hshock]

and she's just puked all down both of us [hsad]

Please don't let me have two with tonsillitis

Teaandcakeplease · 28/10/2010 16:20

Oh dear! Poor thing Sad Guess you'll be stocking up on calpol then. Hopefully all will be well very soon in your house. Get that anti bac spray on your door handles etc. I usually do not bother with anti bac spray but I do if there's vomiting a foot, plaster all places with it then that are touched. LOL

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 28/10/2010 19:45

Luckily, I bought a huge bottle when we were at the doctors earlier in the week.

Her temp came right down after a dose of Calpol earlier but it was headed up again at bedtime. Have dose her again and she's finally settled. Just hope she gets some good sleep now to help her get better.

I think the sickness has mostly been caused by them being so hot but I will make sure everything gets a wipe down just in case.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 29/10/2010 14:22

Managed to sleep until 3.30am this morning then had a couple of up and downs before feeding her at 6am.

Really struggling to keep her temp down today. Calpol and Nurofen keeping it at around 38 rather than anything lower. Spoke to docs who want me to manage at home for now.

Everything crossed they're OK for Mondays trip out.

MIL has offered to have DD but as she's still BF and hates my MIL I'm not sure that would work.

Teaandcakeplease · 29/10/2010 17:22

Really hope things improve soon. Must be pretty tough going right now Sad

Lovely of MIL to offer, I understand exactly where you're coming from though, as my DS was ebf to 6 months and wouldn't take a bottle and neither of my DCs were fond of MIL. So slightly different circs but I can see exactly why you're not sure. You wouldn't want to leave them and worry whilst away how it would be etc.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 29/10/2010 19:58

It is quite hard at the moment but they're both getting batter slowly. DS is only taking his AB's now, no Calopol/Nurofen so that's an improvement.

DD fell asleep without showing any interest in boob at all so I'm a bit worried that's going to affect her wake up time again. She is improveing though so hopefully we'll be back to normal soon.

MIL is generally lovely. Not perfect but not awful either. She's great with all of the children but DD just doesn't seem to be comfortable with her. She'll go to my Mum and sisters and even my friends OK but she just doesn't like MIL. DS loves her. I feel a bit sorry for her as DD is her last grandchild and she can't make the most of her as DD will have nothing to do with her. She definitely wouldn't be happy spending the whole day with her, no boob would just make it worse. I'd rather take her with me and be sure she is OK.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 29/10/2010 20:07

batter? [hconfused]

Better obviously

We had an OK nights sleep. She woke at 1.30 and 3am but then slept until 6.25.

I've called NHS direct this morning though as her temperature is still high and if 3 days worth of Calpol/Nurofen haven't given her time to shift the bug, I'm concerned she might need AB's too.

Really bad day for it as I'm supposed to be super busy today. Volunteering for Parkrun this morning, hairdressers at lunchtime and I want to go and get myself some new jeans or maybe a whole outfit shhh this afternoon before London trip on Monday.

She seems totally fine in herself besides the temp. Is currently stood, wearning just a vest, up by the huge LEGO box in the lounge blowing raspberries [hgrin]

Teaandcakeplease · 30/10/2010 08:56

Blowing raspberries by the lego box Grin

Do you think your thermometer is accurate? I remember when I was in labour, how the mw tried several different ear thermometers, as she wasn't happy with the reading and she managed to get a different reading with each thermometer Confused

Sounds like you have a busy and lovely day planned.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 30/10/2010 10:59

It's the same model the doctor uses so I think it's quite reliable but even without it, she was hot to the touch so I'm fairly sure she had a temperature.

They do tend to give ranges of temperatures though. Depends on how you put them in the ear. I tend to do each side and then just trust that and my instinct.

Parkrun volunteering done. Now for a quick turn round before the hairdressers at 12.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 31/10/2010 11:02

Not only did I get a lie in this morning but I also came down to find that Alex (with some help from DH I suspect) had made me "Strictly O Dancing" entirely from Duplo [hgrin]

Not sure where the "O" came from but he was insistent. It was well worth being dragged downstairs for. I've put a picture on my profile.

Teaandcakeplease · 31/10/2010 15:28

Great pic, although your profile needs updating, it says you've just had DD Smile

That really is amazing, your DS is so sweet. Still love all your cakes. I'm going to attempt a Christmas cake this year, as it's my first Christmas at home with DCs. Usually go to PIL or my parents previously. Nervous about it.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 31/10/2010 19:58

More pics...I've finally finished the pumpkin! Long after the trick or treaters finished but hey. DS will love it in the morning - he requested the design [hgrin]

Forgot to update the profile again though!

I so hope DD sleeps well tonight. We're all going to need a good nights sleep for tomorrow

Teaandcakeplease · 31/10/2010 19:59

Oh wow that is so cool! Smile

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 31/10/2010 20:04

[hgrin]

Teaandcakeplease · 31/10/2010 20:09

You're too talented with your cakes and pumpkins!

Bet DS is excited for tomorrow.

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 31/10/2010 20:16

Ah, but I can't do anything useful. My house, for example, is a tip 90% of the time!

I think he's excited. Had to have words with DH earlier as he kept being really negative about the trip. Telling me how hard it's going to be with 2 children and how I'll struggle etc. Told him to pack it in and be happy I haven't asked him to come and help!

Meant to ask too - would you like my christmas cake recipe? It's really easy and always come out well.

I'm sure Christmas will be a blast. Will there just be the three of you? We had our first Christmas at home last year as DD was only 8 days old. My Mum, sister and brother came. It was a squeeze but we had a great time. I'd love to do it again

Teaandcakeplease · 31/10/2010 21:25

Yes please pm me your recipe and tips.

Well my two DC are 17 months apart and I manage ok going places all the time Smile As she's still young she can ride in an Ergo baby carrier if easier on the underground etc? Then you can watch DS and hold his hand easier etc. It'd be fine. You can stop for a smoothie for DS and give DD a drink etc if needed here and there. You'll have a great time tomorrow x

Teaandcakeplease · 31/10/2010 21:26

My soon to be ex h will come over for a big chunk of Christmas day. Although we're divorcing as he's with the OW, we have an amicable co parenting relationship with the DCs and we should have a good time.
