Thank you MN Techs - bulk bold/italics are great!

I did check first to see whether anyone else had posted about this or not but it seems not, so -

THank you so much for allowing the bulk bolding and bulk italicising of words with just the use of the */^ at either end of the section, not around every word. It is FANTASTIC not to have to do every word, so much easier!

Now can you do it for the 'striking out' as well please?

But still, thanks for the others, that's brilliant.

And yes, please can we hurry up with the mobile/android app. Thanks. Shame DH is so busy otherwise I would send him over to help out! And he does know how this site works, that's his job.

thumbwitch · 08/07/2010 14:00

Yes but he (and you) seem to have failed to understand that it's not about the technicals of the site - it's about the wishes and demands of the users. So his expertise would probably be wasted.

That's the whole point thumbwitch, he is a user experience guy, so his first port of call when revamping a site is to speak to the users to find out what they like/don't like, want/don't want etc. If they say the site is fine as it is, so be it, his job ends there.

I didn't know we could do this|!!!

JustineMumsnet · 09/07/2010 17:23

Yes that was the real Tech back (briefly). Sigh.

ABitTipsy · 09/07/2010 19:30

I love this site for the content but it's usability could definately be improved.

I suppose it adds to the character when people can't do links etc but people should be able to do links ie they shouldn't be so tricky to do that I for one didn't even bother trying for years! I did 'get it' after a while but still.

And there is a mistake in the links paragraph. They've got it the wrong way around. ie the should be around the bit beginning http not www which is probably why so many people do get them wrong.

It's a great site with a great bunch of users but I do think it could be massively improved with the help of a UX guy or gal.

Flamesparrow · 09/07/2010 20:59

It works regardless of doing it round the http or from the www

There is nothing wrong with the instructions

RustyBear · 09/07/2010 21:01

But it works with or without the http:/

Tech · 09/07/2010 21:01

Hello SoupDragon [wave]. Yes, I'm back about, at least for a while. ABitTipsy, someone is going to look at "growing" the message box over the next week or so. It does seem unnecessarily small. I'll rephrase the tip about links. It is perhaps misleading. You basically have to just surround a web address with and to get a link. The is optional.

thumbwitch · 10/07/2010 01:42

Teeecccchhh - is there any chance that people could get to delete or edit their own posts? That would be an improvement, I feel - sometimes people post in haste and then repent/regret and it's midnight and there's no tech around - any chance??

And I agree - links are easy, the instructions are very straightforward.

Hey Tech, thanks, I will look forward to the new, improved, and most importantly bigger, message box!

ABitTipsy · 11/07/2010 18:36

Ok, I take back what I said about the link instructions being wrong, have just tried it without the http and it does work. But I did used to have a lot of problems with trying to do links and it's obvious lots of other people do too, there is no harm in making it a bit easier if possible. Thanks.

ABitTipsy · 11/07/2010 18:37

Also, can we have a timescale on when the mobile/android version is going to be ready please? Thanks.

thumbwitch · 12/07/2010 05:59

Tech, I hope you're following this thread - why can I no longer bold AND italicise words? I used to be able to and now I can't! Why not?

OP posts:
OliviaMumsnet · 12/07/2010 10:13

I'm sure Tech's following but I'll point him in this direction.

Tech · 12/07/2010 15:36

I'll need to check with the other techs why bold+italic is no more, TW. (There are a bunch of us now.) I think it was probably an inadvertent side-effect of the main change. We might be able to re-enable it. I think the fact it ever worked like that was probably accidental tbh. Leave it with us. Ta.

thumbwitch · 12/07/2010 15:39

Cheers Tech! It is a useful (if accidental ) thing to be able to do.
