Thank you MN Techs - bulk bold/italics are great!

I did check first to see whether anyone else had posted about this or not but it seems not, so -

THank you so much for allowing the bulk bolding and bulk italicising of words with just the use of the */^ at either end of the section, not around every word. It is FANTASTIC not to have to do every word, so much easier!

Now can you do it for the 'striking out' as well please?

But still, thanks for the others, that's brilliant.

Sorry to rain on your parade but DH who is a UX (user experience) whizz kid took one look at this site and laughed. There are so many improvements to usability that could and should be made. And having looked at some sites he's worked on, I am afraid to say he's right.

TBH, Tipsy, your DH has no idea how this site works and really isn't in a position to say what changes should be made.

It looks like this because thats what MNers want on the whole and we complain vociferously about offer full and frank feedback on any changes.

Mumsnetters like it like this, though. The unusual nature of the interface acts as a barrier to entry, to an extent, and it encourages people to express their point in plain text (which leads in great part to the unique atmosphere of MN). And it's funny watching people fail to do links. We don't want bells or whistles or user experience. It's not that MN Towers and Tech couldn't do it, or aren't aware of how other sites do it, but they don't have the mandate from the membership.

It isn't that you can't have two sets of italics, but the ^ characters have to be at a word boundary I think - they can't be in the middle of a word.

I do recall one update/revamp of the site and it's like all types of change, takes time for people to get used to it and some people don't like change so will kick up a bit of a fuss (I include myself in that category ).

But one bugbear of mine is this message box I am typing it. Why is it so tiny? Other sites have a box that is the full width of the screen, why don't we have that?
