hasn't this gone far enough? these threads are being allowed to stand which considering the "policies" of the BNP and the views expressed by "activists" is appalling. yes, free speech is wonderful, but some of these threads can be seen as inciting racial hatred, there are many, many, disablist, homophobic, racist remarks made and implied and they always go the same way. the threads are started to cause a bunfight. the BNP will not get anymore supporters on here, so why be deliberately controversial?

mn is a self-moderated site. this is great and one of the reasons i use it. however, the mners are now moderating and saying that we have had enough. we have complained a LOT about this type of thing - please take note!

Much as I'd like to see those kind of posters banned, I can see why not.

What I've seen done on other forums is the three strikes rule. Banning someone outright gives them a chance to play a martyr - and lets face it, BNP supporters love playing that role! I'd like to see the three strikes rule started from now, so no excuses of "I didn't know I wasn't meant to be racist/homophobic/just generally nasty"

Offensive commemts are offensive comments, whether specific or generalised and shouldn't be allowed.

I just don't understand the motivation for dp's threads, and hijacking of threads

there is no actual engagement or real debate with those who disagree with her, no acknowledgement or understanding of why her views offend others, just unsupported statements about not liking this or that to do with immigrants or whoever and when things get heated she tends to backtrack and start talking about music or something

am with pagwatch, it's DULL
and along the way, many people get offended
i don't get it

Agreed, Riven. Not sure why MNHQ are still dithering over this, tbh. I've seen posters banned for less.

I don't know whether she should be banned or not. I would never want to be the kind of person who prevented free speech just because I found it difficult to deal with.

I do remember the SN thread as being a real kick in the teeth for me personally though. It came at a very bad time, we had just been diagnosed a few months previously and I think were in shock really, anyone with HFA dc will know how hard that time is, the are they, aren't they aspect of, trying to convince everyone who thinks your child is just naughty or badly brought up etc.

It sickened me because it felt like a direct attack on my ds, I didn't just get to worry about him anymore and learn to accept his diagnosis but now also had to worry about what everyone around was thinking of him. There it was in black and white.

And also it was the "oh silly me, I might be wrong but can you help me out here" kind of way that she did it, she knew full well the kind of outrage and pain that thread would cause and I find that quite scary. Someone who will use SN kids as a target just to get some attention really needs some help I think.

I have wanted for ages to be able to tell her what I thought of her without being accused of chasing her round the boards (MN crime as we all know), so in a way I am glad she posted yet another offensive thread.

"the 3 strikes rule has long been passed"

I totally agree, but applying it retroactively would not work. If it was enforced now at least she couldn't play the martyr as she'd have been warned.

Unfortunately I'm seeing more users sympathetic to her (only new ones who haven't known the sheer joy of her posts ), but the last thing we'd want is for her to gain support because people thought she'd been victimised somehow.

I think Dp has actually had a bit of a breakdown or something. She's always been AWFUL obviously, but she did used to contribute now and again.

Not anymore.

It's awful to be on a thread and suddenly to see it implode as DP comes on with the first "innocent" post and to feel your heart sink as you know just where this going.

It's awful to watch her goad and goad and goad people with REAL LIFE problems with her twisted little posts about anyone outside of her frame of reference.

And if I have to watch 2shoes, Riven and Lenin put up with anymore of her shite, I swear to God I will break something in my house in fury.

Do us a favour MN, and ban the troll.

I don't think this was meant to be a "get rid of one poster" thread.
but more to stop allowing "people" to spread hatred.

I agree it's trolling. See her anti BNP stuff from last summer...clear as day she is simply on the wind up.

'As I said on the other thread, we've all had enough and I just want to get back to posting about normal stuff. '

LOLOL since when did she EVER post 'normal stuff'?

I didn't know BoF left because of DP, that's awful, I wonder how many others have quietly done the same thing?

Thing is, I can see things from MN pov, this forum is open to new registrations from anyone. Ban someone who causes trouble and they'll just sign up again with a new account surely? At least as she is now she is known and they can monitor. I assume they can monitor name changes too?
