MNHQ, a word in your shell-like please - about these pro-BNP threads... consider this a petition

hasn't this gone far enough? these threads are being allowed to stand which considering the "policies" of the BNP and the views expressed by "activists" is appalling. yes, free speech is wonderful, but some of these threads can be seen as inciting racial hatred, there are many, many, disablist, homophobic, racist remarks made and implied and they always go the same way. the threads are started to cause a bunfight. the BNP will not get anymore supporters on here, so why be deliberately controversial?

mn is a self-moderated site. this is great and one of the reasons i use it. however, the mners are now moderating and saying that we have had enough. we have complained a LOT about this type of thing - please take note!

and if there's a word of untruth in that, mnhq, delete away. but i think you'll find you'll be interfering with my freedom of speech... i'm only repeating what she's said herself, after all.

sadly though there are a lot of people that share all or some of those views.

We need to be challenging the broader views surely, rather than just one of the people expressing them.

but we challenge them all the time on here, many of us by just living it. we have disabled mners and parents of disabled children, we have gay mners and parents and sisters and brothers of gay people, we have black people and white people and people from countries all over the world... and the point is that all of us, regardless of race, religion or ideology, stand or fall on the quality of our posts.

and dp needs to fall, because she is making no contribution to mn other than in starting and hijacking threads purposefully to offend. because she is a troll. she is No Different to any other troll in that regard, she might as well be crying rape or pretending her husband's kicked her down the stairs. she's feeding off the positive energy of this place, and it's a disgrace that she's getting away with it imo, for the sole reason that she's just smart enough to pull the 'that's democracy 4 ya' line. well, it's not, it's trolling, top and bottom.

wannabe, thats what happens on the threads. you cant tell us to ignore them/her then say that we need to challenge the broader views.

i feel that something should be done when a particular poster starts the same sorts of threads and repeatedly (despite having several warnings from MNHQ about her posts) posts deliberately inflammatory and offensive statements. surely if a majority of posters find these threads offensive and upsetting, something should be done about them.

wannaBe how many times though?
how many times do we have to challenge those views........
MN say this is thier philosophy....
our policy is to keep intervention to a minimum and let the conversation flow. Having said that, we will remove postings that are obscene, contain personal attacks or break the law. Please do bear in mind how difficult this parenting business can be, and if there's one thing all of us could do with, it's some moral support.

they also have a troll/troublemaker policy that I think Aitch posted earlier.

these threads breaks those....
so why are they allowed to stand.
why do people who come on here for moral support and yes fun, having to spend thier time challenging.........trolls?

Isn't it uplifting though to see the number of responses that are contrary to the opinions that certain people hold?

I'm opposed to censorship here, partly because I believe in the power of reason.

Right, if people feel strongly that a poster has broken the law then why not report directly to the Police? I'm sure the Police will investigate but come up with the answer that a lot of the twaddle is free speech.

i don't think the police have an anti-troll squad, do they? this is an mnhq headache.

Nah, don't think so either Aitch but some of the posts may have fallen foul of the law. Some could be recorded as a "racial incident" maybe....The law hasn't really caught up with the internet yet.

i don't think they would have done, tbh, she's quite well-versed in the bnp delivery.

Aitch in addition to your list there was also a thread where she slated people suffering with depression and said anyone unable to have children should just 'suck it up'. She's quite wide ranging in her offensiveness.

2shoes · 12/05/2010 16:17

doen't it come under inciting racial hatred?

Report
Aitch · 12/05/2010 16:19

oh yes, i'd forgotten the 'suck it up, why should we fund your indulgent desire to procreate?' thread... that was a doozy. and the depression is for losers one... jeez.

2shoes, I don't think that is covered from dwelling to dwelling....if the posts were displayed in public though it would be different. The law needs reviewing
