hasn't this gone far enough? these threads are being allowed to stand which considering the "policies" of the BNP and the views expressed by "activists" is appalling. yes, free speech is wonderful, but some of these threads can be seen as inciting racial hatred, there are many, many, disablist, homophobic, racist remarks made and implied and they always go the same way. the threads are started to cause a bunfight. the BNP will not get anymore supporters on here, so why be deliberately controversial?

mn is a self-moderated site. this is great and one of the reasons i use it. however, the mners are now moderating and saying that we have had enough. we have complained a LOT about this type of thing - please take note!

No but that I have to accept that if you do call me a cunt then it may be bang out of order but not a lot I can do about it.
It would make me realise that " pagwitch seemed so nice but actually she's a bit of a twat" and I could either argue with you, make you realise I'm delightful or ignore you.

My point being isn't it better to know that prejudice views still exist so we can keep fighting againt them rather than living in a bubble and pretending they don't exist?

(I'm not trying to suggest that you live in a bubble)

Also think mn is still a great source of support despite people like dp.

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 20:16

can irony actually kill you?

daftpunk · 12/05/2010 20:17

I am a woman of my word.

I would never stab MN in the back...it's a fantastic site and I will always wish it well....no matter what happens to me.

lolololololo

Aitch · 12/05/2010 20:20

i agree, this must look awful to more recent posters. a while ago i would have been arguing the 'better they're saying it to your face' line as well. but anyone arguing it now is being had, tbh, because dp is a troll, no more no less. the bnp stuff just lets her troll more efficiently, getting everyone riled super-quickly while remaining just shy of the mnhq radar.

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 20:22

fair enough

And that to be honest is what I usually do.
I either engage or ignore

But I think my analogy was somewhat faulty. What is causing the problems is not
'you are a cunt'
it is
'your child is a cunt'

people tend to be less able to ignore or engage in those circumstances IYSWIM

LoveBeingAHungParliament · 12/05/2010 20:27

I think do has got the message now there's nothing more thatcan be said really without it being too much. People need to remember the site is self mod and if they want to make a complaint about a particular member it's up to them to speak to mnhq

mathanxiety · 12/05/2010 20:31

How about MNHQ posting the OP's mn nmar along with the title of the thread so anyone who wanted to could avoid certain posters...

(for example { "BNP bleugh blah blah" by daftpunk })

mathanxiety · 12/05/2010 20:31

nmar = name

ImSoNotTelling · 12/05/2010 20:36

That wouldn't work as Dp gets stuck into loads of other peoples threads. people will be having a nice chat about something and she rushes in and shouts "homosexuality is against nature" or something and that's it, end of nice conversation as everyone turns to talk to DP instead.

I agree with lovebeing that it's all been said now, really.

See you all again, same time, same place, same thread, v soon.

scoutliam · 12/05/2010 20:40

Absolutely and I totally get that, that's why I'm not arguing for or against dp as a person.
I understand from this this thread that she has targeted specific people on a very personal level and it's easy for me because I'm not one of them, if she is a troll then ban her, I just don't know.
I just don't agree with banning bnp threads

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 12/05/2010 20:55

i agree that this must look awful to newbies and those not familliar with dp. as aitch said, this is the result of years of deliberately inflammatory and offensive posting. the total lack of consideration for others feelings is astonishing. she has hidden behind her faith (although as has been said she picks and chooses) her ignorance and her right to free speech. i hope she does feel some remorse, but weve seen it before. how can she not realise that the things she said to lenin upset her, and 2shoes, and riven, and callmedave, and BoF.

she says sorry, i'll try. educate me...

a few days later same old shit.

Well, as a newbie, I have to say that I am actually quite cheered that members seem to be dealing with the issue of how to keep a community inclusive and attractive for the majority. I was really quite shocked that one of the first threads I saw on here was at first glance quite sanguine about members supporting the BNP. I am quite relieved that this isn't in fact the case, or I'd have been off like a shot.

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 12/05/2010 21:34

thats good to know larrysgal would just like to welcome you to mn properly (and well done for getting stuck right in)

agree tn0g. its almost as if her superego is underdeveloped and she doesnt see the people she attacks as "real"

Isn't it odd

I love mumsnet because of the members.

upsetting members does not seem terribly indicative of affection.

Its like having a dog just so you can kick it.
