JustineMumsnet · 13/01/2010 16:49

As some of you may know, this is our tenth year in existence and we thought it would be nice to put together a list of the top ten MN moments during those ten years - obviously not all of you are as old in the tooth as me but everyone's thoughts welcome.

So by way of a starter for ten here and distinctly off the top of my head (so don't shout if I've missed you out!) are some of our most memorable moments/mn events...

Feel free to violently disagree add your own - am sure, being so decrepit we've forgotten loads.

In no particular order...

Christening of SWMNBN and MP's apology for rockets gag
Mile 4 Maude
First live birth
Christmas appeals generally
Biscuitgate
bottom butter
tim dowling and wife - hammering it out on MN
David Cameron's massive panniers
AIBU generally
Pirate sex
Misdee and Peter and the heart transplant
Is that UCM?

IloveNickClegg · 16/01/2010 11:22

supersoaker etiquette at parties

DelGirl · 16/01/2010 11:25

I think it may have been malory towers but i'm not certain and I can't find the thread. Great isn't it def a classic

thumbwitch · 16/01/2010 11:27

probably all been mentioned before - I haven't been here that long so don't know too many:

the penguin date thread - brilliant
Hobb's baby after taking half the pill
Last year's Valentine date up the OXO tower - hysterical
The amazing resilience of Humanbean, now posting as someone else
The piece in the Guardian c. 2004 which listed things one shouldn't do with a baby - I believe it was Monkeytrousers who wrote something like - it's ok to draw a moustache on your baby with indelible marker but pref not the day before the HV is due to visit - that was the reason I joined MN (oh and because there was a poster called Soupdragon too)

on a less good note - how easy it was to get sucked in by trolls like CVQ.

many of the popular threads are ones I'm only just discovering through the links here. What I would say to musmnet HQ is - think about what sort of image you want to project of mumsnet. Do you want to include mumsnet's funniest moments (and if so can you edit some of the threads please) or do you want to draw attention to why lots of people visit the site but aren't necessarily prolific posters? And what image do you want to present of women to your daughters - and to your sons? Sometimes there are very few posters giving the impression that something is widespread (liek Brazilians) when actually 90% of users of the site aren't saying anything.

When I recommend people to mumsnet or send them a link to a thread it may be because it's funny but more often it's because there is advice here that they will benefit from reading. Mumsnet has people who know more about special needs (in it's widest possible sense) than many professionals. For that its worth putting up with the nest of vipers.

differentID · 16/01/2010 14:47

How about the mner typo where she claimed she used semen in her daughters hair?

birthday table, anyone?

TequilaMockinBird · 16/01/2010 15:38

The thread about the MN'er who caught her husband wanking with sandpaper in the shed on new hedgehog cam had me roffling!

TequilaMockinBird · 16/01/2010 15:39

this one!

CitizenPrecious · 16/01/2010 15:52

that one was geeeeeenius, TMB

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2010 15:53

My favourite moment was the office party photograph thread because Cod and MollyRoger were so funny creating captions for the photographs that I fell off my chair laughing. And then the photographer came on complaining about his 'band width' and everyone said 'oo-er Steve' and I don't remember ever feeling as helplessly giggly since I was about 13.

Other favourite memories and moments are pretty much to do with Cod actually. I vote her.

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2010 15:58

nb: my favourite moment on this thread so far has been Franny's voice of adult doom: 'it was funny then but it won't be funny now girls' [gurn]

BoysAreLikeDogs · 16/01/2010 16:04

100x where have you been

TequilaMockinBird · 16/01/2010 16:04

Ah yes, the office party photographs were also fabulous, I was crying with laughter!

MollyRoger · 16/01/2010 16:09

100!
miss yooooou!

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2010 16:13

Oh hello, I been trying to do RL things. And failing. And I've done some lurking.

FrannyandZooey · 16/01/2010 16:33

oh i missed that darned photograph thread

don't you agree though 100? if you weren't on it and you read it later, you feel kind of slightly sour grapes

queenoftheslatterns · 16/01/2010 16:42

oh god, so many!

mines a rather personal one though. I was in my hospital bed having just had a much longed for (ectopic) pregnancy removed and further complications meant major surgery. i was very, very ill. very drained and the world felt very black and lonely. the nurse came over to my bed with not one, not two but three bouquets from mners. it was lovely and meant so much to me.

i also loved Shiney's plumber-porn thread!

MollyRoger · 16/01/2010 16:43

there are an awful lot of threads where you 'had to be there', I find.

Except the Oxo Tower. I never did get taken up there, you know....

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2010 17:37

Yes, I do agree Fra. Not so much sour grapes, just that they are mostly v. funny in the moment like you say, because it is usually how it develops - like the photograph thread was partly so funny because Cod got onto the photographers site and suddenly was having a field day, and it was all so absurd and unexpected and wicked.

I just read the sexual technics thread, and the thing that made me laugh the most was Boco saying 'Is that you Roy?' and then realizing she hadn't name-changed and everyone politely ignoring it. LOLOLOL

policygarry · 16/01/2010 17:52

Oooh 100x and Franny, I read the HTT thread last night and was crying so hard that DP became quite concerned. Esp. at Boco's bodypopping post.

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2010 17:53

Ah yes, now Policy, that does still make me laugh. And it did at the time too - Franny v. funny with her quiet shoes on the parquet flooring.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/01/2010 17:59

I have fond memories of a F&Z thread where something had been delivered but she couldn't remember ordering it. It was a box of something mysterious and she was too scared to open it (I think it moved or something). Was it giant snails in the end?

FrannyandZooey · 16/01/2010 18:06

LOL i forgot that one it was shells
i was cacking myself but also shivering with laughter at everyone's suggestions
oh where is it
oh here

Boco body popping was just beautiful
oh god we shouldn't be on this thread 100
it does no good to one's intentions to de-Mumsnet

ahundredtimes · 16/01/2010 18:10

That's true. Can't we go on another thread. I want to hear your news. Like a teensy little catch up kind of thread
