A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

Mine aren't going purply. The thread titles are also in tiny writing whereas last time I was on, the writing was bigger.

hewlettsdaughter · 05/02/2009 19:17

The only purple I can see on Mumsnet New Active Convos is on the two Search buttons, the Preview Message and Post Message buttons and the little arrows next to Join and Shortcuts. This is despite clicking on some of the threads.

hewlettsdaughter · 05/02/2009 19:27

Ok, I have worked out it is because I am using Firefox (version 3.0.6). I get the purpley colour for threads I've visited in Google Chrome, Opera and Internet Explorer.

Can you fix it for Firefox?

hewlettsdaughter · 05/02/2009 19:49

Or do I need to do something?

KnickKnack · 05/02/2009 20:28

I dont get the purple bits either, I'm using MN new, and am on firefox

RustyBear · 05/02/2009 20:57

I get the purple on New + Firefox (only v3.0.5 though)

KnickKnack · 05/02/2009 21:17

hmm thats odd, I'm still on v3.0.5 too. I'm sure theres some really simple/obvious answer akin to the "kettle not working because forgot to switch plug on"

KnickKnack · 05/02/2009 21:19

I didn't get the purple links on the old old mumsnet of yore either though

Flum · 05/02/2009 21:27

I LOVE THE NEW LOOK. COOL FOR MUMS. The logo is great it reminds me of Cool Britannia - was that the idea?

FAQtothefuture · 06/02/2009 07:46

I'm on MN New with Firefox v3.0.6

Natter · 06/02/2009 11:48

How do you change to the new look if you've already clicked on the 'mumsnet classic option'? How do you change back?

jujumaman · 06/02/2009 11:50

Are you going to fix new so you get the last few posts summarised on threads I'm on and active convos, last 15 minutes

Because I prefer the new look - thank you! - but hate not having the summaries. In other words, neither is working well right now

But I'm sure it will all be dandy in the end

cariboo · 06/02/2009 15:00

Am trying to be brave & uncomplaining but I really cannot get used to having to flip a thread every time I want to read the most recent comment! And having to scroll through the very vertical advert on the left, big blank on the right.

The new format looks much better on Microsoft than on Mac. Or is that just because I'm still trying to get used to Mac again?

And there's definitely something weird going on at the very top of the page with Sea(mumsnet). Spacing problem?

Pixel · 06/02/2009 15:33

Am I to take it I'm going to be stuck with a choice between scrolling and squinting? Either way makes a longish thread very tedious to read so I'm tending to give up half way through before my head explodes.

New or classic makes no difference really, I've tried both and they are equally annoying.

PenelopePitstops · 06/02/2009 17:22

love the new layout, though i keep getting a problem today with the name bars at the top of threads extending to the bottom of all the guff at the side, so i get a huge blue box

im on firefox btw, not a major issue

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/02/2009 17:24

NikitaTech is working on fixing customise options so you won't have to flip every time. Ditto summaries of last few posts on 'threads I'm on'

cariboo · 06/02/2009 20:53

Oh, good. Thanks to all the Techs!

simpson · 06/02/2009 21:32

Please please please

Can we have it so in threads I'm on the correct person is next to the last post.

Tis the last thing annoying me about the change.

It keeps putting my name next to last post on a thread when it wasn't me iyswim....

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but I am getting a zero message count against some of the threads in active convos. I'm sure it was working fine the other day!

GeraldineMumsnet · 07/02/2009 13:53

yes, we know about the 0 replies and techs are working on it. Honest.

policywonk · 07/02/2009 15:32

In Active Convos, threads I've clicked on are still not going purple. I'm on Internet Explorer and using the new format.

JustineMumsnet · 07/02/2009 22:21

Simpson - threads I'm on still has a few glitches we know - but it will be fixed soon, honest - it's nearly at the top of the to do list now.

branflake81 · 08/02/2009 06:58

Just a suggestion but it would be good if we could choose which threads to put into the shortcuts bit - lots of the ones in there now I never read and it would be nice to be able to drag and drop (or whatever) our own favourites into that bit.
