A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

me either young, not sure what's going on i'm lso using firefox - I hve the screen with everything down the middle - is that the new old mumsnet iycwim?

theyoungvisiter · 04/02/2009 19:30

Yup, I have weird skinny mumsnet - is that how it's supposed to look even in classic?

MamaG · 04/02/2009 20:42

can we hide threads yet?

TrinityRhino · 04/02/2009 20:45

I NEED PURPLE 'THREAD I'VE READ'

PLEEEEEASE SORT IT

10weeks · 04/02/2009 21:09

On Threads I'm watching I still can't see where I'd got to on any particular thread. Unread posts used to be listed under the titles so that you could click to where you'd last read.

I'm not bothering to look now especially on long threads. It takes ages to find I was.

Are we getting it back sometime? I know it works in classic but I like the new format apart from this.

HelenMumsnet · 04/02/2009 21:25

Hello all.

Thought we'd update you on the glitch-sorting so you can see how painfully marvellously the Shed crowd are fixing things for you.

So, in no particular order, as they say on Strictly Come Teching...

Classic: making it look like Classic used to be - We're on the case but it'll be a while yet, folks

Classic options in Customise, making them stick - This one will be a while yet

Advanced search has no search button on it - Yes it does now!

Threads I'm watching needs correct last poster name and summary lists and correct dates/times - Should be fixed now (but looking at the last few posts on this thread, we may need to check that)

Special needs is still appearing in active conversations - Not any more!

Dodgy dates/times in Threads I'm On/ Unanswered messages - Should be fixed now

CustomiSe, not Customize - Well, that was fixed but it seems to have unfixed itself all over again. Sorry.

Search button at top of pages - This one will be a while yet

Nickname on posts is only supposed to show as a link if that poster has a profile - This one will be a while yet

Media Requests/Class Ads - first post not visible - Yes, it is now

Moon not updating - This one will be a while yet

10weeks · 04/02/2009 21:29

I've just checked threads I'm watching again and I have no last poster names, only number of replies, and no unread posts under the thread titles

TrinityRhino · 04/02/2009 21:30

and STILL no mention of purple 'read threads'

Am I invisible?

HelenMumsnet · 04/02/2009 21:41

Yes, 10 weeks: looks like we'll have to do some more work on that one. Sorry.

Trinity: if you're using Mumsnet Classic, I'm afraid you won't get purple on threads you've read till we manage to finish all our tinkering with Classic BUT if you fancy giving Mumsnet New a little go in the meantime, you'll find you get lots of lovely purpley threads

TrinityRhino · 04/02/2009 21:49

hmm, am on new now

I will do it for my purpley bits but I cant wait till classic comes back properly

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 04/02/2009 21:59

thanks towers, will keep popping back, the new look is ok, and getting used to it, but still prefer the old one - the fuddy duddy that I am!

hewlettsdaughter · 04/02/2009 22:54

I have been trying Mumsnet New, but threads I've looked at do not appear to change colour - am I doing something wrong?

Apart from this, I am getting used to New. I wish, though, that on the Active page, the info in the boxes on the right was at the top, so all the white space to the right of the listed threads wasn't wasted.

Well done on getting the thread titles to wrap

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/02/2009 00:53

It's still far too bright for me, can't we have a lovely off white background?

Plus it would be nice if when you click on the sections so they expand you could opt to keep them open . I mainly post on topics in fun and games so it's annoying to keep having to double click.

Otherwise I've gotten used to it already and I likes it (as if anyone cares)

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 05/02/2009 01:11

Only two people said thanks

I like it too so please add me to the list of thanks, I hope it's got bigger since you made that post.

Flier · 05/02/2009 08:15

thanks for the update helenmumsnet.

I'll continue to sit tight and wait for perfection

Simply · 05/02/2009 08:50

HelenMumsnet Thanks for your post yesterday in reply to mine.

You asked "The problem you're having with Discussions of the Day does sound odd, though - do you mean you're taken further down the page when you click on the individual thread links? "

What happens is that if I'm on the homepage and click on Discussions of the Day or Most Active, it doesn't take me to those two areas as I thought it would, it just moves me about an inch down the homepage. Ah (lightbulb moment), but looking at it again, I don't think they are links, they are just headings for what is in that box. I think I get it now.

browny · 05/02/2009 09:10

My thread titles arn't showing in bold type, is everyone elses in small normal type? I'm finding it hardgoing to focus on all the different thread titles .

HelenMumsnet · 05/02/2009 11:52

Browny: are you using Classic? Because, if you are, it'll be a while before we can fix the going bold thing in Classic.

Why not try Mumsnet New in the meantime? The thread titles go all lovely and bold and purpley there

Simply: lol at your lightbulb moment

browny · 05/02/2009 14:26

Thanks Helen, I'll try that now .

jujumaman · 05/02/2009 14:49

Is anyone else having the problem of being constantly logged out?

Even though I tell my browser to remember me, I still find I am logged out whenever I close the window (when dh asks what I'm doing 0.

It's a complete PITA having to log in every time I open the site.

Is there anything to be done about this, please? Thank you

Leoness · 05/02/2009 16:03

I really hate doing searches through old threads for info now. I have given up every time i've tried why did it have to change? was it broken?

hewlettsdaughter · 05/02/2009 16:38

Helenmumsnet (or anyone else at HQ): when exactly do the thread titles "go all lovely and bold and purpley"? I am on Mumsnet New and I can't tell which threads I've read and which I haven't.

HelenMumsnet · 05/02/2009 16:50

Oh dear, hewlettsdaughter: you're the first person to say that!

In Mumsnet New Active Convos, you should be seeing a list of darkish blue thread titles with pinky/purple topic titles above them. Then when you've clicked on a thread, the thread title goes purple.

Anyone else having the same problem as hewlettsdaughter?
