Mumsnet offline Thursday night

Mumsnet will be offline tonight, Thursday, from just before 11pm or so. We're doing a few small updates and a bit of housekeeping. It will be off for a while unfortunately, so maybe an early night and check in over your cereal in the morning?

I'm not going to offer MSN updates this time - you'd not believe the story from last time I did that, even if I did tell you, which I won't. The good news is that if it goes badly there will be at least a dozen people to blame. If it goes well I'll be around to take all the credit.

Let's just hope we don't hit the headlines this time.

OP posts:

ARGH.... the ad is floating at the top left - wasn't it nice and embedded on the right in the test one?!!

What did you do?!

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 08:17

Oh you have to actively change your settings to the new colour? So you break the old one, but not give any hint that you need to change it to the new to fix it?

Bad form, Tech.

hey tech

good job

few niggles:
spacing in safari is all screwy - no margins, and no linebreaks after the blue 'title of post' bars (in Classic)
ads and phase of moon indicator are left aligned not rightaligned with text wrapped up to them

Takver · 30/01/2009 08:36

second what mrsbadger says - all looks very, very peculiar in safari (v3.2.1 on a Mac), setting to classic option does nothing to help

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 08:38

Have you set to new mumsnet colours - I think classic and previous incarnations have been broken (mainly due to the ad now being served as a square).

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 08:45

ermmmm good morning

Tech do you want screen grabs of DISASTERS technical issues?

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 08:46

I would ditch the Moon pronto, that is shifting things out

also the ads are a major problem

MrsSeanBeanHasGivenUpIroning · 30/01/2009 08:53

I used to work in IT and got so frustrated when people kept moaning about new look sites so will say this: Well done, you've done a great job and I know what a PITA these things are. I'm sure you'll get any glitches ironed out.

I still don't really like it though

[old & resistant to change]

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 08:55

OK I've switched to Mumsnet new and I can read it

VinegarTits · 30/01/2009 08:57

I like it, i looks good, only i think i may still be using MN classic, how do i switch to the new look? so i can look at it then go 'gah' then switch back to classic.

Also the search button at the top, the box half covers the word 'search' so it looks like 'sea'

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 08:58

Vinegar tits there is a CUSTOMIZE link next to TOPICS at the top of this page

trace2 · 30/01/2009 08:59

you can only see se to search the box covers it at top of page

VinegarTits · 30/01/2009 09:00

MP i have been into customize, i cant see a button that changes it to 'new'

Just one that says 'MN classic'

Maybe i am already in the new look, but it looks pretty much the same as classic to me

troutpout · 30/01/2009 09:01

looks ok in classic

Buda · 30/01/2009 09:02

VT - Go into customise and scroll down the page - then pick an option and save the change. That seems to work for me.

VinegarTits · 30/01/2009 09:02

When i click on 'change to MN classic' button, it does nowt

But well done Tech, i work in IT, its a pita when users do nothing but moan mooan moan...

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 09:04

You need to ABANDON your dreams of MN Classic and just switch to MN NEW

VinegarTits · 30/01/2009 09:05

Ah ha! i have done it, i am going to stick with MN new, change is goooooood

Can we have some new smiley's? or is that pushing it?

Lemontart · 30/01/2009 09:06

Not sure if soeone has mentioned this as cannot really follow any of the other posts:
Tech - love the new design look BUT spacing is not working in Safari - all over the place
Not complaining though - you do a fab job

troutpout · 30/01/2009 09:07

ooooooooo...i'm all 'new' now
i laike it

Lemontart · 30/01/2009 09:13

Oooooh !!! Just found Customize and have made it all pretty again
Must be that Friday morning thing where you speak/post then think
All sorted and looking lovely.

Nice amount of features there too. Has customize always been there or have I just been so lazy unobservant and not noticed?? Love the way you can fit the entire thread onto a page so no more flicking back through page by page finding stuff.

Actually - don?t tell me if that was already there or I am gonna be really irritated with myself

MrsBadger · 30/01/2009 09:15

lemontart if you switch th New (ie choose one of the colour schemes on the Customize page) then the spacing in Safari magically sorts itself out. Only Classic is messed up.
