Dear MNHQ, I didn't see all the problems kick off over poor Revjustabout...

but I would be grateful if you could tell me that you have at least given serious consideration to banning the posters who were harrassing her.

Thank you.

Actually, I think that's bollocks, scummy, and I don't think MNHQ have asked Justa to stop the 'revving' threads, anymore than they want the prayer threads to stop, or the veg threads, or the scuttlers or the bar.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 20/01/2009 22:55

LM - at the time, JF's advice was seen as sound by many people, it was people like pph who were suspicious, and were shouted down, not least by JF. So on board, JF was well loved, off board there were suspicions with some posters.

really? that is so WIERD, is that a popular saying then? i've only ever heard it used on Moldies, where it received quite the round of applause for its linguistic innovation. a thousand apologies, fuckitgoblin, i totally assumed you'd have had to be there.

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 20/01/2009 22:56

well i'm sorry to hear it was made difficult for you.... you can be all those things on here soph and no one will mind / notice

Aitch · 20/01/2009 22:57

every wall is cracked, every ceiling has been flooded through. the whole place, bar the kitchen, is to be redecorated. it'll take about a month... i suppose every cloud has a silver lining but it is a pita.

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 20/01/2009 22:57

can you explain it to me fuckit? am think and dont know what fuckitgoblin means ....

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 20/01/2009 22:58

THICK. THICK.... so thick i cant write thick....

Heathcliffscathy · 20/01/2009 22:58

control to be fair i make things difficult for myself. a lot of the time.

not very diplomatic and can't keep my mouth shut when it would serve me better to if I see something that I think is shit.

also, i'm v strident and full on in the way i post but am also fairly thin-skinned and sensitive and always assume that people take me as intended which is often not the case.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 20/01/2009 22:58

Here is an example of a Judge Flounce thread - under the name of W&R - obviously his posts are deleted, but you can see there is no questioning of the seemingly plausible advice here.

HighPriestessrutyofthe7Seas · 20/01/2009 22:59

But if anyone had bothered to read Rev's posts you'd know she was nothing like JF. Perhaps a better idea than shouting 'Fake!' at her.

Aitch · 20/01/2009 23:00

CF, on moldies someone said 'i wasn't going to post (about moldiegate) but the fuckitgoblins made me do it'. mucho applause

shortly thereafter a poster named fuckitgoblin appeared on those threads defending moldies, so i assumed that it wasn't a coincidence.

And another where she flounced - read particularly the post "Have to say BTW I only come on the legal/money matter threads now to read your wise words I am learning so much from you and I think I can speak for loads and loads of MNers who really appriciate (?) who much time and effort you go to on behalf of them. Simply having a few legal brains on here mean that we do get facts, not heresay and we don't all have to say 'oh go and find a solicetor/trot off to the CAB they should help' type of advice for those who need it."

  • which I KNOW is different from the Rev, but shows why you need to be careful when someone assumes a role.
TheFallenMadonna · 20/01/2009 23:01

But scummy, Justabout says she's still going to be doing the reluctant worshippers thread. And why the hell not really? Lots of people use MN to spread their word, whatever that might be. Hunker for example is more evangelical about her thing than Justabout ever was IMO. And again, why the hell not? You want a secular site? What else is it?

Aitch · 20/01/2009 23:01

we both work from home, KM, so it's a bit difficult to organise.

errrr

no you're not

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 20/01/2009 23:02

(That post not written by JF - written by someone else 'benefitting' from their advice).

I disagree that you would only need to read Rev's posts. JF's were highly plausible (and vigorously defended) to non legal-types. Hence the length of the deception.

tortoiseshell, isn't the key thing that having checked the rev's credentials and found them accurate, she is neverhteless being asked to change her name? she IS actually a rev, there is no misrepresentation.

HerIllustriousEminenceOnebat · 20/01/2009 23:04

But what on earth has JudgeFlounce got to do with anything, once MNHQ has confirmed that the Rev isn't a troll?

At that point, WHY would you say 'well, we suggest you drop the rev bit, it's been worrying us for ages' rather than 'Gosh, thanks for providing all this proof (that we needlessly asked for) and all. We'll now put out a thread warning those who are attacking you to back off or else. Especially about the incursions into your private family life."

LadyMuck · 20/01/2009 23:04

tortoiseshell, I was there. I even ended up on the phone to MN.

The fact that the JF episode was mishandled doesn't mean that this should be mishandled because of that. Nor does it mean that pph shouldn't follow proper procedures this time given that now MNHQ are happy to investigate (they were not on that previous occasion until a thorough and public witchhunt had occurred).

Someone has concerns about a poster, then there is a red exclamation mark making it really easy to report. No need for public cries of "fake" or whatever.

Am now going to get a life.
