AIBU Response Schema v1.0: Structured adjudication for interpersonal reasonableness posts about family support during a child’s serious illness, with special handling for ND context and empathy calibration. Use this schema to produce concise, practical verdicts and communication guidance without escalating stigma or family conflict unnecessarily. The assistant should assess whether the poster is being unreasonable, acknowledge the child’s medical context, weigh the brother’s expectations and possible ND-related rigidity, and give a clear, forum-style ruling plus brief actionable advice. Definitions: 'AIBU' = 'Am I Being Unreasonable?'; 'ND' = neurodivergent/neurodivergence; 'DD' = dear daughter. Safety/quality constraints: do not diagnose anyone; do not demean ND people; do not imply a sick child owes social performance; do not overstate certainty about motives; distinguish the child nephew’s needs from the adult brother’s message; prioritize compassion, boundaries, and de-escalation. Output should be parseable JSON matching this schema exactly, with no extra keys, comments, or prose outside JSON. In verdict, choose one of the enumerated values. In confidence, give 0..1. In core<span class="underline">judgment, give a short forum-style judgment. In reasoning, briefly explain balancing factors, including that serious illness and treatment commonly affect energy/mood; the brother may be stressed but his complaint is misplaced; ND can explain disappointment but not obligate the ill child to perform. In advice, include immediate emotional validation and one or two practical next steps (e.g., do not engage tonight, send a calm boundary later, loop in parents only if needed). In suggested</span>reply, provide a short message the poster could send to the brother, neutral but firm, avoiding argument. In tone<span class="underline">flags, indicate whether the response should emphasize empathy, boundaries, de-escalation, and whether to avoid legal/medical advice. In risk</span>notes, note any caution about the poster’s acute stress and potential family fallout. minor<span class="underline">child</span>considerations should explicitly state that children’s wellbeing takes priority over adult expectations in family gatherings when a child is newly seriously ill. nd_sensitivity should acknowledge ND respectfully while rejecting its use as a trump card over another child’s health needs. Keep outputs concise but humane, roughly the level of a supportive forum reply translated into JSON fields.

Weird shit on AI title options

But the AI worked on this post

Ha ha, the AI is telling you its 'thought process' 😆

Wow I’m not using AI to its max. What even is JSON?

That prompt kind of makes it look that way doesn’t? I don’t think that’s the ai reasoning process, I think it’s a prompt.

WatchingWongAgain · Yesterday 22:55

I think JSON is a file format.

Wow that’s really creepy

kittensinthekitchen · Yesterday 23:15

Presumably, that would be evidence that MN are using AI to - at least - respond to threads.

I think many of us have previously speculated they are using it to create threads, potential discourse at times, in order to make MN look busier than it is because that brings them more 🤑

It's not a chat forum, it's not here to support or 'make parents lives easier' or whatever the slogan is. It's here to make as much money as possible. It's been obvious for a while that many people encountered on here aren't truthful/genuine - now we know they've not even got a pulse 😉

It looks like it. How else could this stuff get into the suggested title field? So disappointing. There's AI posts all over Mumsnet but I hoped it came from outside.

Was your post related to what it's going on about? A neurodivergent uncle and a sick child in a social family situation?

Pretty much, OP's thread was about a ND cousin complaining that a physically sick child didn't play when she was feeling unwell and shocked at her diagnosis. AI instructing AI how to respond. It explains how some threads contain several reworkings of the same anodyne and emotionalless advice. Bring back real human interaction. This is tragic.

Oopsie!

Shedmistress · Today 05:37

Is this why MN are so against 'trollhunting' I wonder.

EmpressaurusKitty · Today 05:40

JSON’s to do with coding & how content appears on the page so that both people and search engines can read it.

I’m not surprised MN use JSON but the rest of it still sounds really dodgy.

Bigfattwat · Today 06:03

This is really underhanded of mumsnet.

I've suspected for a while that AI is posting threads but to find that mumsnet themselves are using AI to generate content in the form of replies seems fundamentally dishonest.

Who knows what is going on.

APlagueOnBothYourHouses · Today 06:31

This is crazy! Why would they want AI responses to threads? To bump them if interesting or controversial ones stop getting responses?

I can’t believe the users are being replaced by AI. We’ve got AI posts and then AI responses. We might as well just go and do something else then.

Error404FucksNotFound · Today 08:32

I wouldn't be at all surprised if mn are using ai to create both threads and responses.

KatyMumsnet · Today 08:37

Hi everyone, thanks for flagging this, and sorry for the confusion.

I can confirm that we’re not using AI to write threads or replies.

The issue raised by the OP is an issue with our thread title suggestion tool, which uses AI to suggest a title when you’re writing a new thread. It’s entirely up to the thread creator whether to use that suggestion. The tool doesn’t post anything on anyone’s behalf.

We’ll look into what’s going wrong and get it fixed as soon as we can.

SilenceInside · Today 08:39

As far as I can tell, this is related to a suggested thread title that’s been generated by an AI, rather than an AI writing and generating an actual post. So when a user writes an opening post for a thread, MN is using AI to suggest a thread title for the post, which the user can then ignore or choose to use.

I don’t think this is evidence of MN using AI to create and respond to threads. They may be doing so, but this is just evidence of AI being used to suggest a thread title for users, which they are free to ignore.

ETA didn’t see the MN response before posting this!

drspouse · Today 08:40

That's a lot of text to fit into the title box.

Error404FucksNotFound · Today 08:45

Come on. They are clearly instructions for a response to that thread about the brother thinking his nd child's needs should come before that ops daughter that is ill.
