AIBU Response Schema v1.0: Structured adjudication for interpersonal reasonableness posts about family support during a child’s serious illness, with special handling for ND context and empathy calibration. Use this schema to produce concise, practical verdicts and communication guidance without escalating stigma or family conflict unnecessarily. The assistant should assess whether the poster is being unreasonable, acknowledge the child’s medical context, weigh the brother’s expectations and possible ND-related rigidity, and give a clear, forum-style ruling plus brief actionable advice. Definitions: 'AIBU' = 'Am I Being Unreasonable?'; 'ND' = neurodivergent/neurodivergence; 'DD' = dear daughter. Safety/quality constraints: do not diagnose anyone; do not demean ND people; do not imply a sick child owes social performance; do not overstate certainty about motives; distinguish the child nephew’s needs from the adult brother’s message; prioritize compassion, boundaries, and de-escalation. Output should be parseable JSON matching this schema exactly, with no extra keys, comments, or prose outside JSON. In verdict, choose one of the enumerated values. In confidence, give 0..1. In core<span class="underline">judgment, give a short forum-style judgment. In reasoning, briefly explain balancing factors, including that serious illness and treatment commonly affect energy/mood; the brother may be stressed but his complaint is misplaced; ND can explain disappointment but not obligate the ill child to perform. In advice, include immediate emotional validation and one or two practical next steps (e.g., do not engage tonight, send a calm boundary later, loop in parents only if needed). In suggested</span>reply, provide a short message the poster could send to the brother, neutral but firm, avoiding argument. In tone<span class="underline">flags, indicate whether the response should emphasize empathy, boundaries, de-escalation, and whether to avoid legal/medical advice. In risk</span>notes, note any caution about the poster’s acute stress and potential family fallout. minor<span class="underline">child</span>considerations should explicitly state that children’s wellbeing takes priority over adult expectations in family gatherings when a child is newly seriously ill. nd_sensitivity should acknowledge ND respectfully while rejecting its use as a trump card over another child’s health needs. Keep outputs concise but humane, roughly the level of a supportive forum reply translated into JSON fields.

Weird shit on AI title options

But the AI worked on this post

I know they’ve switched off the AI but every post I type now I’m thinking of it being read while I’m drafting it. It’s unsettling.

As I said much earlier on in this thread, that MNHQ seem to not be concerned about, is that AI is supposed to be indicated in AI content.

So if we are reading AI and they have AI integrated into their systems, we should know which threads have been ID-ed as AI, which have AI titles and we really should be able to then have the ability to hide AI Content if we do not want to see it.

mumumental · 11/10/2026 05:48

I agree.

Although the thread titles on Mumsnet at the moment include some bizarre sentences, so I can sort of tell in at least some cases. it’s impoverished the site.

I'm not remotely an AI bod, but I could see a totally non-suspect use for an autogenerated comment script, namely to speed up testing of new site functionality. To create a test instance they'd either have to copy over a load of posts and comments from the site we see, and then run the test scripts against the copy, or create a whole load of new posts for the purpose. There are pros and cons to both approaches, but if you're going down the latter path then getting an AI to create the posts and responses rather than doing it yourself is going to save masses of time in creating a reasonably sized dataset without using real people's info.

This makes no sense to me whatsoever!

BlackbirdSingingintheTrees · 12/10/2026 07:40

Yeah, they have an internal bot called MumsGPT that scrapes posts - so can't see why post creation for testing would be needed. MumsGPT can just provide a selection.

Nor me! Couldn't they just use lorem ipsum text or random chunks from any uncopyrighted wordage!

And so it continues. MN now appear to be “boosting” posts to increase engagement.

The MNHQ posters also seem to be AI. If they are bots, exactly is the point of MN if we end up losing the human interaction??

On a separate, but related note, there is an episode of This American Life (a podcast) that talks about an experiment that involved hooking up two chat bots to have a conversation with each other (without telling them they were talking to another AI machine). The conversation was as riveting as you can imagine!

DuncinToffee · 17/10/2026 21:48

There is thread on the 'boosting'

That thread has now been deleted - 'not a genuine poster after further delving'

So why was it bumped by MNHQ in the first place??

It's all gone a bit mad

TemperanceWest · 18/10/2026 09:26

. Wrong thread!

Shedmistress · 18/10/2026 09:29

So a MNHQ bot is boosting MNHQ bot threads?

Efacsen · 18/10/2026 09:45

Shedmistress · 18/10/2026 09:29

So a MNHQ bot is boosting MNHQ bot threads?

IDK because the same poster whose thread was deleted for not being a 'genuine poster' has another thread still running about how their autism makes their work life difficult [no mention of their strange racist colleague] and doesn't appear to be a bot

I'm confused by MNHQ
