Why so much hate on MN?
Posters hiding behind complaints about the government, presenting themselves as reasonable actors, to push hate about asylum seekers, people with disabilities, benefit claimants..Mostly the same names all day everyday.
I am told to report - MN just not interested.
I am told to hide the thread..
Why isn't moderation better?
I know this will always exist and exists on other platforms but MN makes no effort to even try to anything about it.
You can't really sell MN as a caring, supportive site with all this stuff offered on a daily basis in active.

The extreme fat right have always preyed on people's fears along with they're to blame for xyz.
Only now that message reaches a wider audience than 30 + years ago with stickers,newspaper sales,po box numbers.
Obviously online reaches more people
But the message is always the same .

People wanting the site to revolve around their views than be open to everyone. Anyone who doesn't conform is a troll zzzz.

There are without doubt posters on here who are pushing certain agendas for certain foreign powers/interests. They tend to increase in number and intensity around events like the run up to elections, Brexit, etc, but they are always here trying to nudge the Overton window in a direction that suits other countries' agendas.

Some of them are very easy to spot and are quite amateurish in their language usage, for example. Others, I expect, are far more sophisticated and fly under the radar. I'm not sure what can be done about it, other than users reading posts with a certain degree of scepticism and ensuring they take in a wide variety of views, not just those that chime with their own pre-conceived views.

It’s just, unfortunately, the nature of SM in general, which has trickled through to life in general too really imo, as SM plays an increasing role in our opinions and day to day lives.

I try to steer away from highly polarised discussions wherever possible. I’m not always successful, but it’s a sad fact of modern life it seems.

I tend to make a mental note of those who ignore it when data sources or evidence is posted and then double down on their message. That tells me they are not posting in good faith. And there are sadly a lot like that.

Isn’t it just. Differing views are one thing, the level of hatred on some threads these days is something else. I’ve been here a decade and it’s completely different now.

That's a good way of weeding some of them out, they do tend to do that - just avoid awkward questions and keep banging their drum regardless.

Unfortunately, I suspect some genuine posters who are fanatical about their chosen opinions also do this too - if you ask them an awkward question that answering honestly and straightforwardly would lead them to show themselves to be wrong, they just get angry and deflect (usually to insulting). The real issue is probably that they don't want to face up to their contradictions themselves. But it does muddy the waters.

I find some of the bogus posters start, over a number of posts, to show that they don't quite get the nuance of the fine detail of British culture. So a sense of something being 'off' kind of builds over a number of posts.

To be fair 'far right' is also overused - far better to dissect what is being posted and counter it with evidence.

Inferring that people are somebody else instead of every day women posting on a forum. Slagging people off about how much time they spend on the site and they've got no lives. So calling people sock puppets, trolls and generally being nasty - while saying there is a rise in mean posts.

You're correct - there are posters who are so strong in their convictions that they have become almost a religious faith. You can provide them with all the source data in the world, but they do not want to accept it. One clear example is the people who believe illegal immigration is rising - they need that belief to maintain their ideology, so they simply dismiss any evidence presented as fake.

You can argue it on the thread if you’re so sure. Probably better than this vague and incorrect stuff.

This isn't a TAAT. This is a thread about the levels of hatred on MN as a whole. Which is a topic that deserves to be discussed. If it makes you uncomfortable, well... I am making points based on what I see on MN on a daily basis. I have no idea why you seem to take it personally.

It is a general discussion and not aimed at particular posters. Nobody has been named or singled out. So how are TG being broken?
