Hi Mumsnet, though you should know that a trans identified man - who often posts on Mumsnet as @aidap - is scraping the feminimism board, in order to create some sort of grading system.

It's basically electronic stalking.

What is this?

Oh yes, I have downloaded most of mumsnet and we will be doing embeddings of the content to try to understand how does the rot and hate builds and spreads.

I never had so much hate and delusion on my hard drive before 😅

My hysterical opinion is that you're struggling to comprehend responses or follow links. Some posters have said that scraping is specifically against the Terms and Conditions. Here is that excerpt.

What I don't understand is, if he thinks he is a woman, why is he hating on women?

Oh, how embarrassing, it is even worse than I thought, as I used to really enjoy Gilbert and Sullivan's Operettas when I was a teenager/young adult, about 50 years ago. For some inexplicable reason I completely forgot about The Mikado, maybe because it wasn't one that I was lucky enough to see at that time. So it wasn't that I then got "snobby" about their brilliant satire, I just started having children .... 🤭

Maybe now that the children are all grown up, and I am an OAP, and have changed husbands as well - the last one is probably not relevant - I will see if there are any G & S's Ops being played anywhere near me, and particularly, The Mikado!

I'm confused. You're saying this person is stalking people and your proof for this is a Bluesky post they've made which you've found. Was this post linked on MN or have you been searching the internet? You do know what stalking is, right?

As for a digital scrape (a bot that goes through web content and retrieves it according to set perameters), it's a method of data collection. Something like half of all internet traffic is down to this. There isn't any unsecured data on MN, unless someone's using their actual name or has (unwisely) outed themselves on a public forum. What makes you think this person is targeting individuals? Digital scrapes, of the kind you're talking about, are generally looking for information for research purposes. Has anything they've said suggest they're doing something else? I mean, not being funny, but MN is probably being scraped all the time because AI is currently in the business of producing massive databases. Do you mind secret scraping by others?

That’s the crux of it, mumsnet allows women, the real kind, to debate, discuss, educate, share, enlighten, and they can’t shut us down. But they keep trying.

He is essentially building an automated system to grade MN users & their comments into a results system green to red, indicating ‘how much hatred’ there is by doing a sort of mass gathering and analysis of posts.

Probably looking for keywords in posts he has decided are ok / worse / terrible etc.

It would result in a spreadsheet or similar of users with an overall score possibly per person. This could be used subsequently to harass people online for example.

There are obviously many possible outcomes from such a process; but I imagine online harassment / stalking and defamation against highlighted individuals is essentially the most dangerous. Not to mention the fact that this sort of behaviour still forces further debate / consideration to the conversation of trans / women’s spaces as a whole; which in itself is inflammatory because the parameters of the situation have already been defined and accepted by most people.

This is so sad, because as someone who does want to debate this all I see on here is this.

In fact I see more people wanting to debate in good faith than hate, who are constantly shut down by people like you saying that they’re not entertaining a debate. And that seems to be true on every online forum.

I don’t understand the trans position, and my view is that they should not be discriminated against for being trans, all while being treated in all cases as their biological sex. I’d love to find someone that would try to change my mind - but it’s always the same brick wall you’ve put up.

It does lead me to question whether there is no debate to be had though, and people just don’t want to has their logic and beliefs trampled on by “terfs”.

Completely agree. I understand that there is genuine concern about protection of women’s spaces but I’ve seen so many posts suggesting that trans women are doing it as some kind of fetish or to get access to be able to harm other women - it’s cruel bullying and I can’t believe it’s allowed.
