I am really curious at the originality of some names- just HOW did you choose your name?

I'll go first- I thought it might make me appear approachable and friendly- and it is also very anonymous- rather than including my initials or anything like that.

Mine comes from my real name which my brother couldn't say as a child so he used to call me Niecie.

Have been meaning to change it for a while as I only originally used it so I could lurk for a while. Now I want a change and something a little more grown up just can't decide what yet!

singingmum · 09/06/2008 17:37

Mines a simple reason I sing lots and am a mum so went with it.Not very imaginative but fits

BoysAreLikeDogs · 09/06/2008 17:40

Because my boys are

IdrisTheDragon · 09/06/2008 17:43

Was a really boring name to start with (my initials and the number 101) as this (although with maiden name initial) had been my first username when I went to university.

Then changed to DS'sName'sMummy. Then I realised that was a little boring.

Moved onto PicadillyCircus as I felt life kept going round and round. Changed to PiccadillyCircus when I realised I had spelt it wrong the first time .

Changed to IdrisTheDragon nearly 2 years ago when I was having various problems and wanted to be someone else, if that makes sense. And I love the dragon from Ivor the Engine

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 09/06/2008 17:43

I used to have a different name which was my real-life nickname but after 2 years here I'm still totally unknown so have no decided to go for a more memorable name - descriptive too.

bossybritches · 09/06/2008 17:53

cos I always have been !!

teafortwo · 09/06/2008 18:40

Well... I love the song especially when Pink Martini do it... I love tea but also after watching a few conversations I thought this is just an online version of what our Mums and Grannies did in the local coffee or teashop! Even though computers and the interweb (aha aha aha) are involved, it feels a bit nostalgic, to be sitting around chatting about being a Mum... so why not have a slightly nostalgic name?

By the way... please, please, please, Niecie - don't change your name - I love it - it is so cute and friendly!

And gentleotter - what a dear darling story - a tear drops - I think you should write a novel about your otter experiences! I would read it once a year and always cry at the end!

Othersideofthechannel...I am on your side of the channel too!!!

GentleOtter · 09/06/2008 18:44

teafortwo. She lives down at the river now and has cubs....I hear her calling them though we never see her - we loved her dearly.

Othersideofthechannel · 09/06/2008 18:48

Hi teafortwo, I don't recall coming across you on the living overseas threads. Where are you?

OneLieIn · 09/06/2008 18:50

I was a different name until one day I said 'FFS, all I want is OneLieIn'

That made it!

daftpunk · 09/06/2008 19:15

i was talulasmum when i first joined (which is a combination of my 2 dd's name's ) daft punk is a band i loved from years ago.

VictorianSqualor · 09/06/2008 19:26

I posted a similar thread not long ago.
I was just my forename, but it's a very unusual spelling, so easily googleable(?)
I use a P2P programme for downloading music and saw this nickname in the chatroom one and loved it, so I pinched it.

'For Esme - With Love and Squalor' is the title of a story by JD Salinger. It's a great story - and 'love and squalor' pretty much sums up parenthood, I think.

Hova · 09/06/2008 19:45

Because I like Jay-Z. And I got bored trying to find a name that got taken and I wanted one that wouldn't take ages to type when I log in...

Goober · 09/06/2008 19:48

My first cars name.

naswm · 09/06/2008 19:52

my name is an acronyn which stands for:

not
a
strong
woman
me

and was my mn years ago - because that was how I felt. But I was persauded to change it to something else, so I have been phoenixsoaring and more recently paperchain since then. but right now I feel like good old naswm again

onefootinthegravy · 09/06/2008 19:55

I picked mine out of the air TBH, it summed up a typcal day for a SAHM probably the way I was feeling that day !
15 years ago I would definately have been 'Scouting for Boys' !!!

maidamess · 09/06/2008 19:55

Because I like names that sound like something else. Like Rudolph Hucker.

snotbuster · 09/06/2008 20:11

I'd wiped DS's nose an awful lot of times the day I chose my name...
