I am really curious at the originality of some names- just HOW did you choose your name?

I'll go first- I thought it might make me appear approachable and friendly- and it is also very anonymous- rather than including my initials or anything like that.

I glanced around the room when registering, to just put something in, fully intending to change it to something clever and witty. Never got round to it!

nomoremagnolia · 09/06/2008 15:21

I keep wanting to ask this!
I chose my name just after we'd moved out of military accomodation and into our own place.

mollysawally · 09/06/2008 15:21

My dog is called Molly.
And she is most definitely a wally.

mollysawally · 09/06/2008 15:27

Foofi - Did you find that people were nicer or meaner to you depending in your name?

If you posted exactly the same message do you think you would have got different responses depending on your name?

bellavita · 09/06/2008 15:27

There is a guy that comes in to the pub where I work. He has a boat called bellavita. He thought it sounded italian which it is and because he knew my mum is italian, he asked me if I knew what it meant, thing was he kept on asking me as he kept forgetting what I had said to him every time - so the name just stuck in my mind.

S1ur · 09/06/2008 15:32

Can't remember, s'all a bit of a blur.

foofi · 09/06/2008 15:32

Yes definitely Mollysawally! For instance if your name denotes something expensive people take against you, or if it denotes something arty people like you (I find).

cyteen · 09/06/2008 15:35

It's the name of one of my favourite books, also a username I've used elsewhere so is easy for me to remember.

I do often get username jealousy on here though

mollysawally · 09/06/2008 15:39

foofi - Isn't that intresting? I might do a little experiment of my own!

Cyteen - what do you mean by jealosly?

BouncingTurtle · 09/06/2008 15:43

When I went for my 9 week scan when pg with ds, he looked like a turtle.
When I went for my 12 week scan he bounced!
Hence BouncingTurtle.
He is now Sharkboy so I suppose I should call myself Sharkboysmummy.
But I'll stick with my name as it is now

overthemill · 09/06/2008 15:49

i'd never changed mine so now I have! Quite liked all the thinking so don't tell me you hate it!!

Sazisi · 09/06/2008 15:50

I joined in a hurry and used the name of an old email address; it's an amalgamation of a bit of my name and a bit of DD1's.
It's crap, I need a new one..

hattyyellow · 09/06/2008 15:51

My DD's got given a doll each for Christmas by my SIL.

One called hers Hatty after a friend she sees regularly and the other called her doll Yellow. At the time she called everything yellow, it's still her favourite word.

My original login name was the name of my cat and not very exciting - so I thought I'd have a change.

I imagine people assume when you have a female name in your name that it is actually your name - I assume that with other posters which is probably wildy inaccurate...I'm quite happy if people think my name is Hatty!

EffiePerine · 09/06/2008 15:52

Effie Perine

EffiePerine · 09/06/2008 15:53

which does NOT mean that I am a hairy-handed trucker

RustyBear · 09/06/2008 15:58

The original RustyBear was a little teddy about 3" tall that my mum knitted for me to take to school in my pocket on my first day.
He was originally a deep rust colour, but he's been washed in my pocket so many times he's now much lighter & has darker patches to cover the holes where he was eaten by moths.
He's now nearly 47 years old & enjoying his retirement.

Umlellala · 09/06/2008 15:59

Ah, Effie I always wondered about yours (espesh because I know you live about ten mins from me, but don't think I know you!).

I love Nappiesgalore - think it's my fave mumsnet name ever. Mine is how dd used to say umbrella - so another bleuuurgh (sorry) but I have noticed that there seems to be another poster with a really similar nickname.

EffiePerine · 09/06/2008 16:11

my toddler is quite loud, if that helps?

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 09/06/2008 16:17

I'd been reading a book of Irish stories to the children and this particular lady stuck in my mind!!!!

Queen Meabh

fiodyl · 09/06/2008 16:18

I just made mine up using the first 3 letters from my kids names as I didnt really know what to put as a nickname. Id be quite happy to use my rl name but just assummed that it would already be taken.

Am thinking about chnging it soon now

WelliesAndPyjamas · 09/06/2008 16:20

because I wear them a lot

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 09/06/2008 16:24

I was originally DanceswithMonkeys - chosen because just before logging in for the first time I had been dancing around the kitchen with the dc and it seemed like a good idea. I've been dancing with Lord P-S for a while now because it's my favourite version of my name so far.

Kindersurprise · 09/06/2008 16:25

Kinder because I have 2 children and live in Germany and Surprise because they were erm... a bit of a surprise

When I joined I registered as Macmama73 and soon realised that mama + numbers in a name is a sign of a newbie. Califrau helped me chose a new name, cause I am useless at it.

I love Nappiesgalore too, but did not realise that BoyzinthShire is she. I cannot keep up with the namechanging

sakurarose39 · 09/06/2008 16:26

sakura is cherry blossom - national flower of Japan
rose is the national flower of England
and I am an English rose in Japan
oh and rose is actually my middle name
oh and the number is the age I was when I joined MN

WigWamBam · 09/06/2008 16:27

Because my initials are TP, I was going to call myself Wigwam. But once I'd decided on that, I couldn't get the old Sweet song out of my head. So that was what I used.
