You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

These new colours are awful. I switched from the default back to what i had before. The "green" hardly shows up. Please give the old ones back.

I've been here for ever too, @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius . My recollection is that people always get intensely angry about all site changes every single time that they happen.

This time people are saying the changes are giving them migraines, though, @ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird - isn’t that different to people just disliking the changes?

Lunde · 20/09/2025 19:43

The new posting colours hardly show up!

Lunde · 20/09/2025 19:50

They are really hard to pick out from other posts other than the pinkish "Magenta" - green is more off white

so changing my posting colours to Green, grey, blue

Not going to lie, there's far bigger problems in the world right now. A colour of a free website is not one of them. *Yawn.

It's not just the colours and you must know that if you've been reading any of the threads commenting on it. For people like me with visual impairment, for those prone to migraines or for people with autism who have sensory issues, the changes are really very bad. Far too bright, too much of a very strident blue, terrible post background colours because they are too pale and muddy and very poor contrast on the board home pages with thread titles showing blue text on blue background against all accessibility recommendations. Your yawn is indicative of someone who appears not to give a damn for those for whom these changes to a well-loved and well-used website make it almost unusable.

IwantToRetire · 20/09/2025 22:40

Goodness me! I do hope the arrogant I'm alright Jack, or is that Jill, attitude towards disability comments dont apply to IRL.

Yes there are "guidelines" but in all circumstances those saying that they had disability acessibility features nearly always (if they actual care as opposed to going through the motions) have a get in touch is you have some additional need.

And more often than not now, the so called accessibility checking is just a check list.

It would have been different if after deciding to go ahead there had been a testing period.

I would really like to hear back from whoever did the accessibility test what their reaction is to so many saying it is causing actual problems.

Would hate to think MNHQ would just shrug their shoulders and say the experts say it is okay, rather then thinking we should listen to our users.

Just checking I haven't missed something obvious in settings - there's no way to change the blue text on a blue background? It's just awful to read.

Nope. I also popped back just to check.

20 mins is plenty for me, as when I look
away I have blue banner imprint in my normal vision. I'm sure thst is not good.

It seems weekends off are more important than getting it usable for most.

Nope. No way to change it. Apparently MN users gave feedback that these changes were wanted...?!

I think I've worked out why it feels so offensively bright, it's blue light isn't it? The new shade of blue emits so much blue light compared to the old shade, it's practically UV. Like those horrific blue fairy lights that are universally hated on MN.

Agree. It is the blue. I can't look at the blue banners directly for more than a few seconds. It needs to be toned down. I think MNHQ said they would do so.

Same. Active convos is genuinely painful to look at, with the bright blue on blue and the neon pink for read posts. It strains my eyes.

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 21/09/2025 09:40

And yet the background colours for posts have been toned down so much they're useless, with the exception of the new salmon pink which is at least visible, if unpleasant 😂

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 21/09/2025 09:46

I mean look at the old and new versions side by side...which is easier to see? Believe it or not both screenshots show an OP in "green" Hmm

(Not both my screenshots, because I didn't have any from before the colour change)

NotBadConsidering · 21/09/2025 09:46

It’s really glitchy while posting too, particularly if a post has been made while you’re making one and that blue 1 new post thing comes up.

Discombobble · 21/09/2025 09:57

Green as a colour is gentler on the eyes than blue. Is there a way to personalise my feed so that it’s green for me, this is really unpleasant to read now

Far, far prefer the right hand one.

I know that every time MN makes a major change to look and feel they're deluged by moaning bastards like me who hate it (feel kind of sorry for them, lots of work you know will be execrated) but if you asked non-MNers to pick out the 'new and improved' version, I honestly believe they'd think the 'old and inferior' one was vastly more readable and accessible.

Are the blue strips getting darker as you look down the page or is that an optical illusion or just my eyes?

You can change it by clicking on all the threads. Then you'll get neon pink on a blue background.

I'm not saying it's better, but it is different.

NebulousSadTimes · 21/09/2025 11:07

Perhaps the message in Notifications could be "You were somewhere on page whatever, it's up to you to scroll up and find the last post you read" rather than however many new posts there are because I am being put at the bottom of every page, for everything I click.

Even to look at the one new message that came up, it took me to half way through the message ie the bottom of the page, again. I know it's not the biggest of issues, to find the start of that message, but when added to all the other changes it just makes the changes that most of us didn't want in the first place even more annoying.

The green on the new version (second down from the left) is pathetic - more off white

The gentle green on the right side is the one that MN has abolished.

New "green" is the strange off white that is second colour down on the left side

Thanks so much for this. It's really helpful to know it isn't just me overreacting to the changes. The active threads front pages on this and other boards are still terrible.
