How can you, in all conscience, allow this to appear on the site?

Please make it stop.

Even if the heads were all the same colour it would still be offensive and ableist. ‘Borderline’ what exactly??

I believe the official description is "Borderline for supporting reform".

They aren't skin tone colours, they are a scale of red. It is peoples subconscious racism that then equates dark red with brown/black and light red with white.

Don't be ridiculous . . .

Bumblebee72 · 04/09/2025 15:28

Got to love the way the algo works. On this thread I now get advertising for "Enlighten White"(s).

I'm not sure the exact colour is relevant because even if it was showing say, dark green through to pale green through to white, it would still be awful because it is suggesting that darker pigmentation skin = low IQ and white skin = high IQ.

A bit like when a period product advert shows 'blood' on a sanitary towel in dark blue, we knows they're depicting blood even though it's blue.

It's one of the worst ads I think I've ever seen.

GoodVibesHere · 04/09/2025 15:38

we know (not 'we knows' - sorry, I sounded like Nessa there!)

Crikey! Someone really hasn't thought that through!

Oh I suspect they have!

Thisgrillisonfire · 04/09/2025 22:10

MN response is a bit disingenuous. All large sites use ad networks, but most don’t carry the types of ads we regularly see here. Guardian? No. Sky? No. Even Daily Mail? No. That’s because there are differing companies offering these services and whilst many are totally above board and ‘brand safe’ there are many that will peddle shit to give the site maximum profit. MN can stop this by using a decent ad serving partner. But making less money.

HarrietBond · 04/09/2025 23:39

SirHumphreyRocks · 04/09/2025 15:40

To be honest it’s a cheap ad for a ‘quiz’ that’s harvesting data. I doubt it was anything more than someone clicking on a stock graphic and adding basic text. Not that it hasn’t resulted in an offensive advert but it’s just internet fish food in terms of quality and prep.

RobustPastry · 04/09/2025 23:50

The messages in this ad are racist and ableist, how disgusting. And this is supposed to be a supportive website for parents.

Edited

I have one for another IQ test - it shows a scale with “high IQ” at one end, and “ADHD” at the other..

Northquit · 05/09/2025 00:22

Can you report the address to Google?

VoltaireMittyDream · 05/09/2025 00:54

Holy shit, this is terrible.

Crikey, that surpasses the 'I'm fucking my aunt' one!

What the hell was that one??

Osirus · 06/09/2025 09:29

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 04/09/2025 08:26

They've used skin tone colours for the heads.

Highly offensive given the history of how it was once believed that black people had a smaller brain cavity and therefore lower intelligence.

Whoever created this ad is the one with the fucking low IQ.

Edmontine · 01/10/2025 17:31

@BeckyAMumsnet as of yesterday the advert I referred to in my OP is still appearing …

Now is the time to ask. I see women's bottom in lacey underwears etc. Do you all see it or you think my husband has been viewing underwear websites?

Edmontine · 01/10/2025 17:39

Look …

Somewhat disappointing.

You are clearly looking for things to be offended by.

What rubbish. Once it has been pointed out only someone who is very naive and lives in a bubble or someone who is racist wouldn't find that offensive.

And ableist! The opposite of “high IQ” is not “ADHD” ffs! Lots of people with ADHD have very high IQs.

I completely missed this as well (ironically probably because I have ADHD). I also got 3 As at Alevel back in the day when that was unusual!

goingtotown · 01/10/2025 18:10

It’s burgundy to light pink on my screen.

Don't be ridiculous . . .

They are not getting lighter and lighter are they? "Gifted is darker than "high average". I don't think it's racist the colours don't even resemble actual skin tones.
