What is going on with the app on Iphone?

Not only is it incredibly laggy and keeps freezing/crashing,certain features won’t work unless I refresh or leave a thread and rejoin ,but it also messes up my phone. It gets hot incredibly quickly, brightness goes down , it freezes and it drains the battery. It’s becoming impossible to use for more than 10 minutes at a time. This doesn’t happen with any of my other apps.

It’s incredibly annoying, as I quite like a bit (A LOT) of MN during quiet times and now usage is very limited , but the phone is also useless for a bit .

I’m on an Iphone 13 mini and everything is up to date.

Not just the app . I use the website and it’s the same . Tbh I’m sure it was the reason my phone crashed earlier in the year and wouldn’t come back on but the last couple of days it’s been so much slower and freezing a lot more . I thought it was my internet signal but it’s fine on every other site . It’s awful .

I hate using the site so I don’t know if it’s just as bad. Have been on the app since I’ve posted and it’s already crashing/freezing and my phone is burning up and brightness down. Need to go off it now for a while to get another 10/20 minutes session. Bloody ridiculous!

We'll look into this now and see if we can find any workarounds for you. It is an issue that has cropped up in the fairly recent past. In the meantime, could you check your settings and see if you're set to view 'all' pages in a thread, as that can really slow things down. Switching to 50 posts per page might help a bit.

I’ve changed settings and tried various other things. The app is still nearly impossible to use.

I’m having exactly the same issue with the app freezing (to the point where I can’t even exit Mumsnet) brightness going up and down and phone getting incredibly hot. I thought it was a sign my phone is getting old and worn out until I read the OP.

I’m having this on my iPad. It’s the number of ads they try and cram on to a page, I’m sure of it. There’s an ad wedged in between every five replies and it’s just too many for the app to cope with.

I’m having this issue too! Last night my phone was on charge at 80%, the app kept freezing so i would have to close it down and start again! Then it completely froze on the app wouldn’t even let me come out of it and my screen went black with a little round circle in the middle (like it does when the battery dies). It then came back on and my battery had 1% even though it was on charge and at 80% before. Had to re start my phone and then the MN app wouldn’t even load so I gave up!

I’m having this too, phone is bloody burning after a short time of being in the app. Once I swipe off Mumsnet every other app is fine and the phone starts cooling down.

No improvement here either. Any other content heavy app or games work fine and with no issue. It is quite concerning how hot my phone goes so I’m going through a bit of a MN detox. Just 10/20 minutes here and there throughout the day.

The issue I find is that following a link - say from an email - doesn’t go to where it’s supposed to.

I get emails - either a sort of popular posts round up or notifications someone has commented on a thread I’ve also commented in - so I click on the link from the email either because the topic has sparked my interest or because I want to know what else has been said on a thread I’m interest in…. and it takes me to a menu of topics/threads - usually none of which are the thread I clicked a link for.

I then have to come out of the app and go back into my emails to click on it again.

also why does it not automatically have a capital letter at the start of a new paragraph as my phone does in every other app?

It absolutely ridiculous how bad the app is and then when I try to use the mobile site instead it won’t load

Phone getting soooo hot for me and draining battery fast as well, what is going on? As soon as I close down the MN app it cools. On iPhone 15, all updates installed.

The app is a shocker, whatever team developed the app (internal or third party) should be got rid of and the app started again and designed/developed properly.

Half the issue is the external ads, whilst MN need to maximise revenue, littering the app with adverts is not the way to go. Any half decent developer would see this as a performance issue.

I’d also say any QA/testing undertaken is limited at best.

Yep, it’s getting ridiculous now. Constantly freezing too when im scrolling or typing. Ive been on 10 minutes and my phone is burning and battery just gone down by 10%. This happens every few months on mumsnet.

All of the above! The overheating when using the app is the most worrying. (iPhone 15, all up to date and working perfectly well outside MN.)

Now it’s causing my phone to completely freeze when it gets stuck on a page and won’t let me shut it down

I mostly use the app on the iPad. I’m pretty sure the issues started after the last iOS update. I’m not sure but I think some other apps including safari aren’t behaving as well as they should either.

on a few occasions I’ve had a very bad lag - seemed events are queuing up and not being either processed in a timely manner or discarded.

Same here.
iPhone is very hot.
Brightness is going up and down.
Constantly crashing.

There are a huge number of duplicate posts on threads too- not sure if this is related to the App issue.

Oh, yes - I’ve been reporting the strange proliferation of duplicate posts for at least a week …

The new app is rubbish and full of bugs (often new ones appearing as some of the old ones get fixed). I’ve given up on it and deleted it.
