Why aren't threads opening on most recent post

whitecarmcr · 15/06/2025 20:21

I haven't changed my settings but now when I open a thread I'm on it takes me to an older post than I've read. It used to take me to the most recent. What's happening?

OP posts:
ExtensivelyDecorating · 13/07/2025 22:56

I've always been on 25 posts per page and it's still really annoying.

Me too. Nightmare.

As a PP said How can it be so hard to fix something that used to be so simple

Oh, I know it's really irritating. I was just trying to give myself less bloody scrolling to do while MNHQ dick about not fixing it!

BellaMumsnet · 14/07/2025 11:35

Hi all, we know this is a frustrating experience and really appreciate your patience. We are still working on resolving the issue, but as soon as this is fixed we will update you on this thread.

whitecarmcr · 15/07/2025 09:20

I thought the idea of the new forum was that technical bugs would be fixed faster....

It is nuts.

This has just started happening for me on both phone and laptop. Longer threads will only load a limited number of pages, regardless of whether I access the thread from Trending, Active or Talk Topics.

When a "New Post" notification appears at the bottom of the last page I can see and I click on the notification, suddenly all pages are visible, but if I navigate back to an page to try to catch up on all the posts I'd missed, the later pages disappear again.

I only have this problem when I'm not logged in to MN, but I often want to browse without logging in for security/privacy reasons and I'm really frustrated by the continuous technical errors that force me to log in (is this a deliberate strategy, MN?). For example, today I'm trying to follow the NHS Fife/Sandie Peggie threads without logging in, and this issue is making it impossible to read the threads.

Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 17/07/2025 10:53

Have to say it's killing me today while I'm trying to follow the Sandra Peggie thread.

Me too. It keeps bloody refreshing me back to the previous sodding page on top of time spent hunting for my bookmark!

The threads move so fast, and take at least 3 x the amount of time to read because of all this nonsense. Hard going.

RaraRachael · 19/07/2025 21:29

Fresh hell experienced over the last couple of days -
I browse Active threads, look at
one and instead of taking me back to the place I'd stopped at, it flies right down to the bottom of the page to some bloody sudoku puzzle and I have to start all over again

When will all this nonsense end? It's getting beyond a joke.

TheHillsIsLonely · 19/07/2025 21:59

MN is broken and has been for over a month.

I cannot believe that this has seemingly been impossible to fix for this length of time.

What is the issue? More clicks = more advertising revenue? You have to wonder.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/07/2025 10:19

Additional issue (which has been the case for me since I first posted on this thread weeks ago) is with Advanced Search.

I use AS to look for old posts of mine all the time. You would find your thread and clicking on the thread title would take you directly to your comment within it. Now it does not, so you have to search page by page through the thread (using the control f function) which is maddening.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/07/2025 16:40

My additional issues are:

  • See next doesn't work for OP's posts, only see all.
  • You now can't tap the top of the browser to take you back to the top of the page.
Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 22/07/2025 11:04

This is never going to be fixed, is it?

I’m having the same issue with see next as well as going to the wrong page when I open thread. @mnhq

NoWordForFluffy · 22/07/2025 11:20

I've had a bit of a win in that I've changed my browser to Opera and threads seem to be opening in the right place. For now!

HebeMumsnet · 23/07/2025 12:19

Thanks for your patience with this. We are still working on it. To help us find a solution to some of the other issues mentioned here ( @NoWordForFluffy , @LindorDoubleChoc, @WitcheryDivine and others), could we ask a few questions?

On the 'see next' problem:

  • What device are you using and model e.g. iphone16.
  • Browser e.g. chrome.
  • Does 'see next' not work on every thread you try it on or does it work on some threads and not others?
  • If it's only some threads, please share an example thread link where it is happening.
  • What happens when you click 'see next' - nothing? or does it direct you to another place on the thread?

Advanced search:

  • What device are you using and model e.g. iphone16.
  • Browser e.g. chrome.
  • Does it happen on every result you click on or does it happen intermittently?
  • When you click on the AS result, where are you taken to on the thread e.g. bottom of the first page, a post by you on another page, or does it take you to a different place each time?
  • Do you have any bookmarks on the threads that you are being directed to via AS
NoWordForFluffy · 23/07/2025 12:34

@HebeMumsnet

  • What device are you using and model iPhone 13
  • Browser Safari
  • Does 'see next' not work on every thread you try it on or does it work on some threads and not others?
  • Every thread.
  • If it's only some threads, please share an example thread link where it is happening.
  • What happens when you click 'see next' - nothing? or does it direct you to another place on the thread? Nothing happens. Just sits there!

Opera seems to have full functionality where Safari doesn't.

OK - I don't know what "see next" is. Never heard of it.

The problem I have is on "threads I'm on". I click on a thread from my list and it used to take me to the point in the thread which I last viewed. Now it will take me to a point in the thread 3 pages away from where I last viewed. So I have to scroll for ages to get to the point I last saw the tread.

Happens on every device. Iphone 16 chrome, ipad safari, 2 different laptops on chrome and Edge.

Happens on every thread

I do not use AS and I don't use Bookmarks.

LindorDoubleChoc · 31/07/2025 14:14

Another week has gone by. Any news @HebeMumsnet ?

Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 04/08/2025 23:50

Clearly it's not anywhere near being fixed!
why is it so hard? Since it always worked before.

MoominUnderWater · 05/08/2025 06:44

It makes such a massive difference to the site. On the day it changed someone must surely have fiddled with some settings…..can’t it just be put back?

whitecarmcr · 05/08/2025 06:48

Come on @mnhq
This bug effects all of us. It can't be being treated with much urgency!

OP posts:
TheHillsIsLonely · 05/08/2025 12:35

This has all been going on for about 2 months now, as it started some time before the OP created this thread. I can only think that they've got a maintenance man with a hammer and nails trying to fix it or someone who usually just makes the coffee.

Either that or they are not doing anything at all about it because it is tied up with the advertising revenue situation.

It has got to the point now of being embarrassing for MN and frankly ridiculous, and is demonstrating little to no regard for the loyal users of the site.

MoominUnderWater · 08/08/2025 16:12

Guess it’s not getting fixed then, they’ve stopped even bothering replying 🤷‍♀️

NoWordForFluffy · 08/08/2025 20:00

I think they've put it in the 'too hard, fuck it bucket'.
