Pages are taking ages to load/refresh....

I may end up internet shopping while I'm waiting and will have to ask Mnet to fit the bill for any Jimmy Choos I may order.....

Argh SO SLOW today grrr.

I'll post this and then check back tomorrow as I cannot be arsed with MN any more today.

The Adblocker thing says it's for firefox. What is firefox? I think we have internet explorer. I know nothing of these things and do not want to start messing with the puter as DH will get his "what have you been doing now?" look on his face.

And MN towers please hear my cry. If it is these ads doing this then please do something to sort it or I'm going back to talking about the merits of delta pegs on UKCampsite. OK.

I seem to have worked it out!

Yippi!

You havent seen the last of me!

I increased the security settings in IE, but ENABLED video streaming in ads. Most of these norwegian ads are with videos. I kept MN as a trusted site, but enabled security and kept protected mode ON.

I have disabled firewall and parental control for my childrens log in in McAfee.... Shall try and enable it again and see what happens.

Sidge · 18/05/2008 21:48

It's driving me BANANAS!!!!

I may even have to resort to talking to DH...

twinsetandpearls · 18/05/2008 21:51

drives me mad, I also shop whilst I wait for the pages to load, sometimes I give up and do something else.

BecauseImWorthIt · 18/05/2008 21:53

I think they're all holed up in the shed, drinking vodka and having a great old party.

They're definitely not watching us or interested in all our moaning!

CrackerOfNuts · 18/05/2008 21:55

Am I going mad, or do we not have a refresh button anymore ?

CrackerOfNuts · 18/05/2008 21:56

There was one before wasn't there ?

Oh yeah I know we can refresh like that, but I could have sworn we had a refresh button by where is says add, watch, flip etc.

I am losing my mind.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 18/05/2008 22:02

Yay! It's faster!

This is driving me round the twist too. It isn't happening on any other site......am using Firefox but going to give up for tonight as it's starting to really make me TETCHY!!!!!!!

Hobo · 18/05/2008 22:06

Mine's speeded up to!

Scoobi6 · 18/05/2008 22:17

Was getting to the point that I couldn't be bothered any more too today, until I saw this thread and installed adblocker. Many thanks - gone from minutes to seconds thread loading

MN Towers I don't mind ads, and find the MN ones generally unobtrusive and relevant. But they mean I can't use MN at all from my mobile while commuting (which would be the main time I would use it) and I was getting close to giving up at home too. Which is counter-productive surely?

JustineMumsnet · 18/05/2008 22:47

Oh bleedin hell - if you all install ad blockers we'll go bust. There must ben a problem with one of our agency ads downloading slowly or something - we are seriously thinking of binning the run of site ads from them - it will cost us some revenue but the whole slowing down of the site thing is really unacceptable... anyway we'll look into it. What really helps is if you can identify any particular ads that are stalling the site, so we can report them to the agency.
Best,
MNHQ

Twinklemegan · 18/05/2008 22:51

I don't understand - I don't have an adblocker, I'm on 31kbs dial-up and it's perfectly fine. Just as quick as ever and pretty much as quick as when I had broadband.

WendyWeber · 18/05/2008 22:56

MN was excruciatingly slow most of the afternoon - is fine now - have you switched something off at MN Towers?

Sidge · 18/05/2008 22:57

It's better now.

Has everyone gone to bed or summat?

zippitippitoes · 18/05/2008 23:01

well its interesting because there have been discussion about whether it wwas ads in the past and information past on

QuintessentialShadows · 18/05/2008 23:02

Sidge, I suspect either folks are installing firefox and adblocker, or making babycentre/netmums unsafe.....

I have got it working.

But, oh blush, I had to let DH browse netmums and experience the issues for himself to fix it for me.

Luckily he chose innocuous threads about stairgates and the like....

Sidge · 18/05/2008 23:06

QS - Maybe everyone has gone over to the Dark Side and they'll all come back demanding tickers, twinkles and fluffiness!!

Scoobi6 · 18/05/2008 23:08

I installed adblocker this evening and MN instantly sped right up. But I can still see ads and they are working fine, including:

easyjet
TCP
holidayauto.co.uk
t-mobile
kinderhotels
nationwide
O2
cancer research uk
JoJo Maman Bebe
Sainsburys

Presumably adblocker is doing something, because the page loads straight away now. Before, I had to wait minutes with a "contacting something ad-related" message at the bottom of the browser.

I'm using firefox on XP with broadband if that helps. When I use firefox on Vista off the same modem I don't have a problem.

QuintessentialShadows · 18/05/2008 23:09

Yes. The site would look nice with a pink background.
