Thread Deleted ( Parts 1,2,3, and 4)

AnneKipankitoo · 05/03/2025 11:18

I saw that thread 4 was deleted with the message
about breaking Mumsnet guidelines.
The 3 previous threads were deleted too.

Which guidelines were broken?

So... just casually asking here... any interesting threads lately??

Any that posters think would be of interest?

Or should it be wonderrrrrrring?!

Violashifts · 05/03/2025 19:25

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe
Honestly I don't think so. I had a friend like the op in my 20's. Eventually she cottoned on.

Violashifts · 05/03/2025 19:26

I invested in softzilla once. Was a fast learning curve.

LawrenceSMarlowforPresident · 05/03/2025 19:30

Of course it was fake. That was obvious from the OP of the first thread. Trolls have been overrunning MN for ages. A conservative estimate would be 50% of all threads in AIBU and Relationships are pure invention.

SerafinasGoose · 05/03/2025 19:49

Always the trending ones, isn't it?

BeMellowBrickSquid · 05/03/2025 20:01

@SerenaSemolena
I found you on on the new one. Nicely played...

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 05/03/2025 20:05

Good ol Softzilla.

Hollietree · 05/03/2025 20:08

I’m starting to think that people are employed/paid to post ridiculous made up posts for the clicks and for the daily mail reporters to scoop up (and to lead to more clicks).

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 05/03/2025 20:13

Is this why they've disabled PM's ?

Same. Today we seem to be on 'UC and other benefits' in the topic rotation.

They disabled PMs because the people that were posting CSA images and links to them start sending them via PMs too, I believe.

That brought back memories.

AnneKipankitoo · 05/03/2025 20:56

I am not a fan of AIBU.

Supposed to be reinstated now but keeps being delayed.

Now I'm following to find the references... looking at you @Hollietree ;-)

whatapalarva · 06/03/2025 07:04

I’m rethinking all the posts I’ve commented on now, the air wrap theft, the man pestering the woman at work. The latter having had lots of advice but seemingly no action?

ExtraOnions · 06/03/2025 08:03

Disappointed it was deleted before the inevitable positive pregnancy test …

GCEpileptic · 06/03/2025 09:02

CowTown · 05/03/2025 16:42

How so?

Many years ago, there was a notorious troll called Lavenderrr. (Can’t remember how extra rrrr!)

mn was a lot smaller then, I dont even want to guess how many years ago it was! so (some) trolls were genuinely surprising to people.

RealEagle · 06/03/2025 09:24

What made me laugh was people were discussing it with their husbands .PLEASE!!!!!

Possibly it depends on what internet media you're using. Trolls have been around for as long as the www, and when forums/live chat were less well-policed than they are now their behaviour was downright disturbing.

Live chat rooms imploded and have never come back, and this is a good thing. They were fun and a novelty at first but they became so unbelievably toxic - people egging other, obviously disturbed people on to the most unbelievable behaviour - and they took that behaviour offline on occasion, too. The www was much younger then and its original users were less savvy about dropping subtle cues over time that would enable someone else to track down their real identities. The results were nothing short of horrifying, as were the 'doxed' identities of some of the depraved people who were using those rooms.

MN has a murky undertow, as does the whole of the internet, but there is nothing on a moderated discussion forum that comes close to some of the things I witnessed in the earlier days. The poo trolls, fetishists and MRAs are nasty, and put out dangerous messages to women that they should be compelled to tolerate horrible, abusive behaviour from men. But a great many women on this site will usually set them straight.

The anonymity offered by the web causes some people to behave in disturbing ways. Thankfully, unless you're using an ISP shield most people can be found and held accountable for their online activities, if necessary. Luckily not every idiot/pervert is tech savvy.

Ha me too. I’ve commented on one today that does seem genuine but because it’s about a bf’s possible red flag behaviour I find myself wondering if it’s true. Until the four thread one my default has always been to believe a thread as genuine, now I’m not sure if any of them are 😁

BeMellowBrickSquid · 06/03/2025 10:58

Well I'd just like to appreciate the civilised and nuanced discussion in this thread about the balance of not feeding trolls vs giving those in genuine distress and those keen to support.

And thanks to MNHQ for not deleting this as a taat, though it does hover that way as an inevitable part of the overarching discussion! I hope everyone seeking closure from the thread(s), whether they saw it as genuine or not, find it here, i certainly have.

I am also enjoying the thread within a thread concurrently happening, also very nuanced....

AnneKipankitoo · 06/03/2025 11:13

I was concerned about that too( TAAT) but I did genuinely want to know why they were deleted at once and why allowed to continue if it was a concern.
