Im honestly feeling so traumatised over what I saw on mumsnet last night. At least 15 extremely graphic Catergory A images were posted and online for a good hour (maybe longer, I didnt check back)

IMO mumsnet needs to be taken down pending full investigation into how this was allowed to happen.

I’m so pissed off that Ive been exposed to such images. Honestly feeling like sueing mumsnet for their negligence.

Edited

Are you crazy that will fuck up their profit.

Roblox has installed ways of stopping bad language being shared. Can't Mumsnet install something similar for photos and language. My 10 year old is more clued up than MNHQ in regards to online safety.

Blarn · 03/02/2025 10:56

I didn't see this fortunately but did have a close call with some very unpleasant images a while ago. I @ mnhq when I saw a thread title on the main board clearly linking to a porn film and got a few snarky replies telling me to report the thread. Well, no, I am not going to click on it or spend time sending mn an email as they suggested. There really needs to be a way to report threads without opening them.

I would also like to add my voice to those asking to know how mn are responding to this.

Fucking up their profit is probably the only thing that will make them act to prevent this kind of thing happening again.

I agree

Do you think it would be reasonable to not allow new threads between certain times, although people could add photos to current threads so forget that.

There should at least be some restrictions on posting photos, length of time you’ve been signed up, having to have a certain number of posts for example.

I’m gobsmacked they were left up as long as they were. I feel awful for all those who witnessed them, I couldn’t bear the thought of seeing them.

Redtrainyellowcarriage · 03/02/2025 11:18

I'm deleting mind too, mumsnet used to feel chatty and informative ( usually!) but not anymore after last night. Thanks to the night team for doing what they could, I hadn't realised they are volunteers.

It would be incredibly easy to add simple rules that restrict the ability to post photos and links.

Rules such as you can't post photos or links if you:
Signed up less than a month ago.
Have less than x number of posts.
Have had a post removed for breach of certain rules within the last month.
Have had a post reported but not reviewed and released within the last 24 hours.
Have posted more than two photos in the last hour.

This wouldn't remove the risk entirely but would make it more difficult for people who have bad intentions. It would also stop further images/links from being posted once an issue is identified.

It is also clear that there MUST always be someone available who can delete posts, ban posters, and see reports in real time.
