unm, NO - do NOT post links knowing that CSA images are on them!!!!! Sorry @NiteWotcha, I appreciate you are having a ‘mare, but what you’ve just asked people to do is technically illegal as they are sharing the images by sharing the link.

I don't think this counts as sharing images. How else can they delete them if not shared on the night watch threads? Reporting at this time won't do anything until the morning

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 03/02/2025 05:51

They were on a thread at about 11.15 so not middle of the night.

Then the ability to post photos should be suspended at times of day when there is no paid IT support available. Or MN should just have paid IT support available 24/7. It's not like they can't afford it, let's be real.

SnowyPetals · 03/02/2025 06:04

I am here for updates from MN about the action taken on this.

ColourBlueColourPurple · 03/02/2025 06:04

Why are they doing it, I thought sickos like these liked to operate under the radar so that they could go undetected? But it's like they're literally saying 'here I am, come and get me'.

SaturdayKitchenSally · 03/02/2025 06:18

Is night watch still an unpaid position?

Yep

Threewheeler1 · 03/02/2025 06:20

There has to be a way of stopping this from ever happening again.
Rules need tightening about new posters.

Actually, I am not entirely sure. Maybe they do receive something for their trouble? But they are just regular posters I believe, not IT specialists with the ability to shut the site down or handle multiple suspect threads very swiftly. Clearly this could potentially have been even worse and it's left MN open to accusations of negligence which a site of this size and high profile cannot afford.

Toothicktounderstand · 03/02/2025 06:25

I was on the thread but fell asleep. Luckily. I can’t believe someone would do this.

so now over 7 hours on without a response from mnhq. I don’t know why people are saying the police will have been informed. A volunteer has said that’s mnhq job in the morning which is a completely inadequate policy.

I really think those who saw this need to report it to the police. Not doing so may be some kind of offence in itself or should be.

DreamySloth · 03/02/2025 06:44

This is absolutely crazy. The other link still isn’t closed! Thankfully, I haven’t seen any pictures but these links are all being shared and one is kept up?? Have the police been called??

MaggieBsBoat · 03/02/2025 06:45

There is absolutely no way that volunteers should be dealing with this for a profit-making business. The site is a massive business. This is unethical.
I am so sorry for those that have happened on images that they now can’t unsee. I am so sorry for the people who are expected to tidy this up and leave written reports for management that should be organising themselves in such a way that this kind of monitoring is paid for. Other social media sites manage this Mumsnet!

andyouwillknowusbythetrailofdead · 03/02/2025 06:48

I'm really uncomfortable with the fact that MN is primarily a site made for and by women, that makes millions of pounds a year, but which is happy to use unpaid women's labour.

Well it would be interesting to know what, if anything, the police being called in Belfast or Cumbria could or would do about this at 4am or whatever, when MN's IT systems are probably being run out of London, or at least not Belfast or Cumbria. Unless the police have Justine's mobile phone number I really doubt there is anything that can be done until office hours resume.

But I take your point and henceforth that will clearly not be good enough.

Tubs11 · 03/02/2025 06:56

Thought this post was about Bianca Censori at the music awards. Think I'll steer clear of Mumsnet till an update is issued. I hope they find and prosecute the sicko.

LetsGoOverThere · 03/02/2025 06:59

There must be some AI content filtering that could filter out this type of content.

I’m afraid it does still count as an offence. You could report the thread name but sharing the link itself is distributing the material. It’s unlike that the CPS would choose to prosecute but it is still technically a criminal offence.

NiteWotcha · 03/02/2025 04:02

I’m so sorry, I’ve got it now

I saw on a thread called something like ‘ My boyfriend/ partner does nothing ‘

PregnancyHormonesss · 03/02/2025 07:24

What was it about?

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 03/02/2025 07:34

I’m so glad I missed these threads, I’m usually awake with DC2 who has SEN and hardly sleeps but luckily slept for longer last night. I’m sorry for all those that had to see such terrible, vile things 😞

MelisandeLongfield · 03/02/2025 07:46

PregnancyHormonesss · 03/02/2025 07:24

What was it about?

Apparently someone was posting images of child sexual abuse on random threads late last night.

Snugglemonkey · 03/02/2025 08:06

LoudSnoringDog · 03/02/2025 04:21

@Redtrainyellowcarriage
Really don't want to even open any other thread.

Me neither. I thought it would be Grammy pics. Thank goodness I have not seen anything.

LoudSnoringDog · 03/02/2025 08:21

Why is there no formal response from
@mnhq about this?

I unfortunately saw these vile pictures at about 4.30am. Almost 4 hours later and zero assurance of the situation. As already pointed out. MN isn't some small website. It's huge. There should be better processes in place
