Clickbaity horrible advert (TW: domestic violence)

justasoul · 02/09/2024 08:39

I just had this absolutely vile looking advert appear in the middle of a thread. It shows a photo of Sara Cox with a bruised face (fake as I have reverse searched the image) and has a red box below saying “now we know that the rumors are true.” (spellings like that). I have screenshot but not sure whether to
post it. It was 08.21 and I’m on Safari on an iPhone 13. Not sure what it linked to as when I came back from screenshotting it the advert had changed.

ETA: it was on the ground rice post, if it makes any difference.

Been getting these horrible ads too for the last couple of days. Even if I click on the ad to say it's inappropriate - all the happens is that I get more of them. Hmm

I even got this one on this very thread Shock

The Jeremy Clarkson one was from earlier today Shock

I had the Sarah Cox picture pop up on my game, everytime I completed a section it was there.
I'm not going to use that game anymore it's vile to do something like that to a well loved celebrity or anyone for that matter.

It’s horrendous isn’t it

didn’t Tim Berners Lee say that the internet can be policed a lot more than it is, but the dominating companies just don’t want to do it?

mine was Martin Lewis because I use his site.

RaraRachael · 02/09/2024 22:04

Mine was weird because I have no connection to any of the celebrities involved

Ditto. Don't watch or listen to (or have any interest in) any of the "celebs" (some of whom I don't even recognise) Confused

We had an influx of these clickbait inappropriate ads a few (many?) months ago as well.

Both MN and Google need to re-check their filters.

Thanks for all your help in tracking this down. They should all be blocked now but please do let us know if you spot anything like it again that has managed to sneak through.

OuterSpaceCadet · 15/10/2024 09:40

There's more violent images this morning on Mumsnet. I don't know who the woman is. Bruised, cut face. Text something like "now we know the rumours are true". Is this a targeted thing? I saw this image whilst reading a thread about rape, FFS.

LemonChiffon · 15/10/2024 09:46

I've just seen one on this thread

EmeraldRoulette · 15/10/2024 09:47

Just came to Site stuff to report this

it’s awful

not seen it anywhere but here this morning.

sleepwouldbenice · 15/10/2024 09:48

I am seeing them as well. Say " this wasn't supposed to be public" with domestic violence picture

I am on iPad and it's appearing on most threads

@HebeMumsnet these horrible ads are back and all over threads this morning. There are a couple of posts on Site Stuff about them.

LateToTheParty · 15/10/2024 09:53

I've seen them again several times today too, think the image is of Rachel Reeves (Chancellor of the Exchequer). Have reported them to Google as inappropriate but that didn't seem to make any difference last time.

Morning, everyone. Thanks for flagging this. We're on it right now.

It's still an issue, today I have reported them to Google on the actual advert, as inappropriate.

FlappyBat · 15/10/2024 10:07

These were on the Wynn Jones Katya thread just now. I'm on the iOS app.

Do these only appear on Mumsnet?

Showing images of bloody, violently battered women to a website of women seems like targeted hate* to me.

Imagine this happened with a website for any other protected characteristic. It would make the news.

The image even appeared on the page where I was making the report! Really shook me up how horrible it is. And it means I'm mostly going to avoid MN today until I've heard back from hq.

*Of course, it's not actually a hate crime because good old cosy traditional misogyny is simply the air we all breathe.

lapochette · 15/10/2024 10:12

These are still appearing, Rachel Reeves, Sarah Cix and now one with Alex Jones has just appeared on a politics thread I was reading. To begin with was another advert and then it changed to the DV photo. Every thread I've been on this morning they've been popping up.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 15/10/2024 10:18

I'm seeing the Rachel Reeves one several times on this thread (and others too)

Shitshower · 15/10/2024 10:20

I’m seeing Rachel Reeves constantly and someone else I don’t recognise, currently on this thread, but also on anything else I go on

IsItMimi · 15/10/2024 10:21

I just had one twice on this thread. Link is https://risk-reward-news.com/YiGURhh?adsetname={{adset.name}}

Edited to add - I've reported my own post so hopefully mnhq will see it

VotePedroPony · 15/10/2024 10:21

Came to site stuff to see if there was already a thread on this. I'm seeing the same ones as flappybat, multiple times on multiple threads. Samsung phone on mobile page.

Please please @mnhq do something about this, it is very distressing. Not seeing these ads anywhere else.

PercyPhelps · 15/10/2024 10:22

They are all over this thread.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 15/10/2024 10:24

Have also seen the awful Rachel Reeves ad several times this morning.

I saw this too. Really confronting and upsetting. I need to log off the internet today.
