Pop-up advert that won’t go away.

I keep getting Siemens advert pop up randomly, and despite having an x in the corner it doesn’t often work.

I always thought pop ups weren’t quite in the spirit of the site 😏

I've enabled ad blocker I got fed up of it appearing so frequently and there being no apparent rush to fix it.

@Procrastinates We've had a look at the Cadbury's ad and it is behaving as it should. It's an interscroller type ad so you can just scroll through it. They do sometimes 'pop out' and cover the full screen briefly as you scroll but you can just keep scrolling and they'll disappear.

The Simens one that people are reporting should be blocked across the site now so shouldn't be appearing. If you're still seeing it please do let us know. If anyone is able to get a video of it when it appears that would be really useful so we can see what's happening.

I disabled ad blocked to see if it has indeed vanished but within two threads it reappeared! I also might be being dense but I don't understand how a video will resolve the issue any more than a screen shot and the URL?

I guess I'm back to using ad blocker.

Can you recommend an ad blocker? The ones I’ve found need monthly payments.

I'm not sure I'm allowed unfortunately. I know MNHQ don't like the use of ad blockers and I've always put up with the ads because I appreciate it helps keep the site running but the siemans one was just getting ridiculous and whilst I didn't want to enable an ad blocker it was either that or just not use the site at all as every few pages the ad was popping up.

Still happening as of now. Bit difficult to get a video as it happens randomly and when there is no sign of it on screen. IE it isn’t a scrollable ad that is enlarging - it literally just appears out of nowhere

Siemens advert is certainly not blocked. About 8 times today.

It just takes over the whole screen and has a countdown button or 24secs in the left corner but thankfully also a X to close it

I'm also still getting the Siemens ad.

I've been having problems with different ads. (Tesco, holidays in Catalonia,etc) they bulge into the thread from the ad. box below the list of Shopping threads. Doesn't always cover the thread, often just a chunk of it. Can't clink to go to the next page of the thread and if i scroll up or down it just follows me. No x in the corner. I'm using a Samsung probably on Chrome.

This add constantly pops up and does not disappear unless it is clicked on. Then it pops up again within less than a minute. This is on an iPad.

Also still getting the Siemens full screen pop ups that just come from nowhere. Yes there's a cross in the top right corner but they're intrusive and every time it assails my screen I just think, "Siemens are getting right on my nerves!" How is that association an effective way to advertise?

But given that it's not just limited to some glitchy Siemens thing, I can't quite believe MN is genuinely baffled. Sadly I expect we'll soon discover this is the irritating future of advertising on MN 🙄

We're aware of the issue with the Siemens ad and have blocked it but it still seems to be a problem for some Mumsnetters. Clearing your cache and cookies should help, but if it's still cropping up then please could you send us a video of the advert as it appears for you? Thanks in advance.

Sorry Jo, no clue how to video MN forum! But I appreciate you're trying to resolve this, sorry for my indignation earlier. I understand ads are necessary, but so many previously enjoyable corners of the internet have become dominated by and saturated with advertising strategies that ruin enjoyment 😔

I can’t predict when it might. It just suddenly appears.

I was on a train the other day and went past a Siemens depot, I swear my blood pressure shot up 🤣
