Why do you allow people to attack and ridicule Christianity?

Time and time again I see people taking the absolute piss out of Christianity. Calling people delusional and saying it's made up bullshit etc. why do you allow this? I don't see this about any other religion.

It goes far beyond atheism and you claim to be against hate speech.

Well said @CurlewKate

Ffs - there are hard liners in all religions who post online that their religion is the only truth. Stop pretending it’s only Christians who do this.

It's honestly only christians who have ever said this to me. I have had friends of a variety of religions and cultures.

Depends how the view has been expressed- (obviously)

...or interpreted.

How do interpret “sky fairy”? And “delusional “?

Werweisswohin · 20/07/2024 12:11

Limesodaagain · 20/07/2024 11:42

“Sky fairy”?
“Delusional “?

That's no worse than saying to non-believers that god is definitely real, telling them they're sinful and need saved, that your god is the god, or 'I'll pray for you'.* *

pikkumyy77 · 20/07/2024 12:12

Obviously I don’t believe what you believe is not hate speech.

Second of all I wish the religious people on this thread would stop pretending that Christianity is some kind of generous polytheism. Definitionally Christianity sees itself as the one true religion and labels all others as false. You all fucking expelled the jews from England in the 15th century! The Catholic church slaughtered the Cathars for wrong think. They fought the crusades and slaughtered Muslims to reclaim Jerusalem.

In England religious infighting was of course absolutely rife with periods of oppression, abuse, and suppression from catholic to protestant and back again.

Please stop pretending that a state sponsored sect like christianity needs special protection from other people’s derision or opinion.

Contempt, derision, and abuse have historically been taught and preached in Christian churches from the pulpit. A little sarcasm from some teenagers or atheists us neither here nor there.

Werweisswohin · 20/07/2024 12:12

Limesodaagain · 20/07/2024 11:43

Not as typical as you think. Some of us are quite argumentative and contrary .

Indeed.

Werweisswohin · 20/07/2024 12:13

Limesodaagain · 20/07/2024 11:46

Yes - Christians are guilty too. And it would be right for you to call them out on it .

Which is what I've been doing. 🫣

Limesodaagain · 20/07/2024 12:14

Werweisswohin · 20/07/2024 12:08

Ok - you win . All Christians are bigots and the only religious bigots out there are Christians .
They all totally deserve to be mocked and abused because religious faith is not a protected characteristic if the religion is Christianity .

Werweisswohin · 20/07/2024 12:14

Limesodaagain · 20/07/2024 11:49

It depends on the way you express it. If you call me delusional for believing in a sky fairy then you are making fun of me.
If you say there is no scientific evidence to support my belief then you are not making fun of me.

I do think it's delusional to say there definitely is a god.
I also think you can have different thought processes than me.

Werweisswohin · 20/07/2024 12:13

Ffs - I’ve not been mocking you . ( at least not out loud)

Limesodaagain · 20/07/2024 11:25

It’s completely fine for you to think it’s all a load of absolute tosh ( obviously) All that I’m asking for is that people don’t use mocking language on social media. Obviously- they still will because it’s a free country and I defend the right to free speech- including the right to be rude and offensive.
However - I think it’s better for everyone if we don’t routinely take the piss out of groups we don’t agree with.
Im fine with piss taking in some ways ( I find Ricky Gervais very funny on religion)
I just don’t like the idea that it’s ok in general discourse on social media to take the piss out of someone’s religion.

Why is Ricky Gervais allowed to do it then?
And what about those other, more niche beliefs I mentioned? Are we to assume that Christians and other religious people who expect respect for their own beliefs would never mock others' less mainstream beliefs? I find that highly unlikely tbh.

Sky fairy - a fictional character in the heavens (aka sky).
Delusional - buying into something based on false ideas or confusion.

Go for it then. But if you are going to mock Christianity then try mocking other religious faiths while you’re at it … see how you get on

Your little bit there in brackets is another perfect example of christian judgement seeping in.

No.
In all honesty I haven't actually used those words, maybe ask those who have.

Another typical christian victim response - I didn't say any of that.
I simply said that christians and their book are fairly judgemental.

There you go 😆

RampantIvy · 20/07/2024 12:23

Them suggesting it's mocking doesn't mean it is mocking. Expressing an opinion is not mocking.

It depends how you express your opinion doesn't it @Werweisswohin

"I think you are delusional" is mocking "I don't believe in God" isn't. Surely, you have the social awareness to know the difference? Don't you?

Christians actually use horrific language to guilt trip people into believing in their god too - telling people they're so full of sin that they need saving, telling people how to live, saying their way is the only way and so on.

What all Christians? Why do you tar all Christians with the same brush? None of the Christians I know do that, and I know a lot of them.

Perhaps step away from this thread for a bit. You're clearly upset.
