Muslim Board

anotherlevel · 03/04/2024 14:36

Hi @mnhq is it possible to please request a Muslim Board on here, a safe space for Muslims to have to speak freely about things that matter and should be discussed? Similar to that of the Jewish board.

Over the 400 mark now. Let's keep gauging interest....

GoodOldEmmaNess · 06/04/2024 19:12

Are we inching our way, via crisps, towards someone humorously requesting a cheese board? Or have we all (except me) got too much basic human decency to make that joke?

BIWI · 06/04/2024 19:14

You know that you need to, @GoodOldEmmaNess ... !

Llistamista · 06/04/2024 19:14

That’s not 400 requests though. Just 400 posts on this thread. A lot of people saying they’re not Muslim but just supporting so might be worried about the use it would get. I’d imagine they will be going by the email requests so I’d do that to get past the post

BIWI · 06/04/2024 19:22

What?

I really don't understand your argument @Llistamista

A lot of people saying they’re not Muslim but just supporting so might be worried about the use it would get

The vast, vast majority of posters on this thread have been supportive. Why on earth would you - or anyone else - be worried about the kind of use it would get?

Llistamista · 06/04/2024 19:27

Meaning worried about the number of people who would use it. Nothing else!

Saucery · 06/04/2024 19:33

Are you worried about Fishnet? Or Chicken Keepers?
How about Black Mumsnetters? Are they posting at a frequency you approve of?

C8H10N4O2 · 06/04/2024 19:37

So how many posts do we need to let Muslim women have a topic? Frankly if there was more topic posting and less domination by AIBU the site would be improved.

therealcookiemonster · 06/04/2024 19:39

EasterIssland · 06/04/2024 18:47

I’d refuse that one. Only plain salt crisps is the right way 🤣🤣(and we are back to the potato conversation 😂)

I'm concerned for your well being

if you limit yourself to plain salted crisps who knows what nutritional deficiency you might end up with due to lack of other flavourful additives and e numbers

have you tried paprika max and lime and coriander sensations?

TheShellBeach · 06/04/2024 19:42

A six pack of prawn cocktail crisps is the way forward.

IMHO.

a cheese board would be amazing! also a topic on pickles and pickling while we are at it

Do you mean that the non muslim posters that have supported it on here will not be using the board so it will only be the muslim supporters who will count towards the usage/interest?

When I was growing up, there was ready salted, cheese 'n' onion, and salt 'n' vinegar. And that was it. That was crisps. For years and years. And then the world went mad with other crisps. It is unnatural. Like someone adding extra days of the week or seasons of the year.

Doubt it’d be used more than chat or aibu

Yes!
Those were the days!

And they were 4d a packet, which is about 1 and a half pence.

What does that matter? Why would it matter if a board was lightly used? The Jewish board is lightly used, there can be nothing new there for several days, but when it is needed it is hard. It's not clutter taking up space in a cupboard.

😕

I love cheese and crisps. Not cheese crisps 😂

Llistamista · 06/04/2024 19:51

OMG!! I only said to email / message them rather than rely on posts on this thread. I was trying to help!

Why has that deserved vitriol!??

PinkTeaForMe · 06/04/2024 19:54

I don't think the concern needs to be about the number of users. It's more appropriate to think of this as a necessary space for Muslim women to be able to have discussions that are relevant to their lives. Even if that is only with two other people. Others have pointed this out previously but just to reiterate, sometimes you want to talk about subjects without having to provide ALL of the context from waaaay back.

And on the very important issue of crisps, I agree with the person who said a six pack of prawn cocktail. Is there any greater pleasure in life!

Confuzzleduzzled · 06/04/2024 20:01

I’m Jewish and support the need for a Muslim board. It’s a safe space and just useful as a place to post without having to explain yourself.

I don't know.... I prefer proper Thai prawn crackers to prawn cocktail crisps. prawn cocktail crisps bring back awful memories of school dinners as I always used to have a pack along with some sort of rubbish sandwich...

I don't think anyone meant to have a go. I think it's just very frustrating for everyone that this post has been so popular and people are crying out for a space, yet MN are still dragging their heels and "gauging interest". As a Muslim POC this is synonymous with real life and having to fight and fight for basic requests that seem to come to others so easily. I can't believe it has dragged on for this long.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 06/04/2024 20:03

Usage isn't confined to people who post - lots of people may lurk on 'minority' boards but quite rightly, if not part of the minority, not intrude on the space by posting. As far as MN is concerned, lurkers will count towards their usage stats for the purpose of gaining advertising revenue and keeping the site going for all of us.
