Muslim Board

Hi @mnhq is it possible to please request a Muslim Board on here, a safe space for Muslims to have to speak freely about things that matter and should be discussed? Similar to that of the Jewish board.

@Suddenarabia there was at least 16 pages on the anti islamic thread of issues that were particular to women who were muslim.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 05/04/2024 22:03

MN even has a TERFs topic

BIWI · 05/04/2024 22:03

Yes I'm well aware of that @EasterIssland Hmm

Sorry! Misunderstood you

Kasperber · 05/04/2024 22:27

Because a faith is not a topic or an interest ...it’s a belief system

Where does that leave me who has no belief in any religion but my DNA test came back as 100% Eastern European Jewish? I have no belief but I still have shared cultural experiences, problems unique to my ethnicity and conflicted feelings around some everyday experiences that stem from my ethnicity. Who will understand if it’s not others within my community? Is ethnicity not a topic?

LampShadeTaj · 05/04/2024 22:34

If Mumsnet create a Muslim board then they need to create one for each and every religion. Everyone needs a safe space.

I have a topic for my dog, cat, chicken and goldfish.
I think religions might just trump them.

@Scirocco ah that's amazing! Coming home to a home cooked meal that you didn't have to make yourself! Enjoy x

It's delicious!

He marinated the chicken for butter chicken, then tried a new sauce idea he had where essentially he made a cross between a butter chicken one and a korma one, but with a real kick to it.

He didn't use a recipe, "just experimented with throwing stuff in the pan". Which is one reason why he's a much better cook than I am - I need a recipe but for him it's an art.

I think that could be a valid idea. Maybe as part of a 'Spirituality and Faith' section. You could start a separate thread to make the suggestion to MN if you want?

You’re more than welcome to do that request to mnhq. You might get an answer back sooner than this threads op

There’s already a Jewish board - another group who needs a safe space after all the antisemitism they face. Is it too much to ask that another religious group that faces similar levels of discrimination is given the same? Or do you propose that MN takes away the Jewish board?

And why not.

BunniesRUs · 05/04/2024 22:52

Still waiting I see.

And in the company of people upset Muslims exist .... should Muslims just exist mutely and passively? Not allowed to have wants and needs?

I could have done with a Muslim Board for when my ex was cheating on me a a decade ago and I had nowhere to get get useful advice from. MN mainstream advice was kind but lacking due to cultural and religious illiteracy.

TakeMe2Insanity · 05/04/2024 22:56

So we reached 16 + pages on the other thread (including people telling us to get a specific thread, people telling us it didn’t happen) and now 12 pages in mumsnet have lost the power to read a thread, randoms are telling us we dont need a thread. Surely that suggests we do need one.

therealcookiemonster · 05/04/2024 22:58

maybe we just need a Muslim mumsnet?

therealcookiemonster · 05/04/2024 23:00

ignore me, just realised there are already forums out there ....

dimllaishebiaith · 05/04/2024 23:11

Suddenarabia · 05/04/2024 21:27

Because the point of a site for women is meant to be uniting women - not creating smaller and smaller pockets of people in their own bubble not talking to anyone else. Isn’t that a fundamental problem of the internet?

Do Muslims fundamentally have different issues to anyone else? Of course not. And there’s enough Muslims on mumsnet to speak on a general topic if it was something very specific - it’s a population of 7m not a tiny minority.

Its going to blow your mind when you find out that this isnt even a site for women at all...

Im an athiest and I fully support this proposal even though Im pretty sure you dont mean this in good faith (pun not entirely intended)

If people from different religions want to request their own boards then I will support those like I am doing this one

ConnieCounter · 05/04/2024 23:27

I'm mortified at how long it's taking to get a response to this.

I'm another non-Muslim who supports the request.

OnBoardTheHeartOfGold · 05/04/2024 23:32

TakeMe2Insanity · 05/04/2024 21:37

11 pages in and mumsnet are ignoring..interesting.

Seriously, what's going on?

anotherlevel · 05/04/2024 23:39

They definitely have some explaining to do

Oh wow. I went to watch a film and came back to a slew of accusations - including I probably declared we needed a white mumsnetters board.

This is the whole problem with mumsnet that I don’t think any number of individual boards can solve - so much aggression and so little striving for debate and tolerance.

My only argument is - as I’ve outlined a number of times - that a forum of segregated religions doesn’t feel progressive or inclusive. You can disagree with me. That’s fine, I might be wrong, it doesn’t make me angry. But just stop with all….this…..it’s gross. We’re all human.

whysorude · 05/04/2024 23:49

Such a lovely thread.

Am also non-Muslim and support the request.

(Would also love a potato and rice board but that's for later)

ADoggyDogWorld · 05/04/2024 23:51

Suddenarabia I don't think asking for a muslim mumsnetters board is gross, that is quite intemperate language to describe the request. Goodness me. Please reconsider your post.

Yeah people said shit like this when the black mumsnetters board was requested as well, and usually ended up showing their true motives behind their complaints

And whilst declaring the need for tolerance your posts are some of the most intolerant

Tolerance is understanding the need for people to be able to speak to others who understand them without explanation sometimes, whilst still having the wider boards where we all come together. Having seperate boards takes nothing away whilst adding immeasurably to the whole
