Muslim Board

Hi @mnhq is it possible to please request a Muslim Board on here, a safe space for Muslims to have to speak freely about things that matter and should be discussed? Similar to that of the Jewish board.

@Auvergne63

I really dislike potatoes, sorry.
A rice board would be great though.

You're my type of person. I'll have rice any day of the week. Moroccan food is lovely and would love a good tagine recipe if anyone has one.

I'm not Muslim but absolutely support this. With many colleagues and patients who are, I'd be interested in reading some of the meaningful discussions to develop more understanding of issues that affect them. I'd also really hope there was a recipe thread!

anotherlevel · 05/04/2024 17:58

I've just started a recipe thread :)

Thanks! I just came home to a delicious looking butter chicken (thanks DH!) - I'll test it tonight and report back!

MonsteraMama · 05/04/2024 18:42

Well disappointing to see the "discussion" is apparently still ongoing at MNHQ, but on the upside I am making rose and pistachio kheer for the first time in my life because it sounds AMAZING. So thank you ladies for sharing food and recipe ideas here at least!

anotherlevel · 05/04/2024 18:44

@Scirocco ah that's amazing! Coming home to a home cooked meal that you didn't have to make yourself! Enjoy x

I'm actually making a potato side now to go with lamb chop masala. Does anyone have a good recipe please?

Lamb chop masala sounds divine. I am practically dribbling!

cerisepanther73 · 05/04/2024 18:47

@anotherlevel

Definitely needs to be one for Muslims ☪️ too,
Hope so.

I’m derailing sorry… but while we are waiting for @mnhq (nuuuuuuuuu!) … biryani recipes please!

I’ll trade for either potato kugel recipe (not for your son @Scirocco 😅) or a pesach cake recipe (hmmm also potato flour, but he wouldn’t know)

🤣🤣 you know biryani recipes = how long is a piece of string!

PinkTeaForMe · 05/04/2024 20:50

It's fab that we have a food thread. Thank you OP. Please can we also keep this thread alive though. I think it's so important to keep banging the drum about the Muslim board so it isn't just brushed under the carpet.

Kasperber · 05/04/2024 21:01

I hope you get a board soon. Would be concerning if you didn’t.

This thread is a tonic after the vile Islamaphobic and Anti-Semitic posts I’ve read on a thread about the Israel Palestine conflict. We need to see our similarities as humans, share what is important to us and have our own boards where we can share the good, the bad and the ugly parts of being part of a minority group in the UK with others in our community who understand. And any other thread (like this one ) that lets us enjoy each others company, couldn’t be more welcome and important, especially at the moment.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 05/04/2024 21:03

Feck, MN has not even bothered to do a post on this thread.

Yes, why is there not a Muslim board already.

Can we all report @anotherlevel's Op and get some bloody action.

Kasperber · 05/04/2024 21:15

I’ve reported it.

Suddenarabia · 05/04/2024 21:21

Because there’s no need for divisive religious boards.

Why not?

They are not divisive boards.
They are safe spaces.
The rest of us can keep our fecking noses out of these spaces.

Because there’s no need for divisive religious boards.

Maybe but then mn should remove those existing boards (who some members of the mn community feel they’re their safe space and I respect that ). You can’t grant it to some and reject it to others

Suddenarabia · 05/04/2024 21:27

Because the point of a site for women is meant to be uniting women - not creating smaller and smaller pockets of people in their own bubble not talking to anyone else. Isn’t that a fundamental problem of the internet?

Do Muslims fundamentally have different issues to anyone else? Of course not. And there’s enough Muslims on mumsnet to speak on a general topic if it was something very specific - it’s a population of 7m not a tiny minority.

If they feel they want a safe space, they should be given it.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 05/04/2024 21:29

@Suddenarabia should MN get rid of Jewish MN and Black MN?

I don’t understand all this talk of ‘safe spaces’. It would be no safer than anywhere else on this forum!!!

And following your logic. If I want a safe space for Furries, or Bondage lovers, can I demand that too.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 05/04/2024 21:33

Its not smaller and smaller pockets of people! Its a set of topics. If people want to post on a topic to do with their Muslim faith and culture they post on the Muslim board. If they want to post about their new puppy they post in the dog topic; if they want advice about what boots to buy they head over to style and beauty. Why would you think that a faith board is by its nature more divisive than any other?
Its not different topics that divide people, it is lack of compassion, mutual understanding, etc

Parkingt111 · 05/04/2024 21:33

@Suddenarabia non Muslims virtue signalling their LOVE for samosas.

Samosas are not only a 'Muslim food' or whatever you think it is
