Hi all

We do apologise for the late response. We think that this sounds like a cache problem on your browser, which should be fairly easy to sort from your end. It can happen when updates are made and a browser stores an older version.

If you don't know how to clear your cache, you can find instructions on how to do it here: http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

If that doesn't sort the problem out, please don't hesitate to come back to us and we'll have another look into it.

Still happening. Sad

Rinoachicken · 04/04/2024 00:42

Still happening for me too

Oneblindmouse · 05/04/2024 12:51

Still happening with me too. It doesn't happen on any other site I use so it has to be a problem with Mumsnet. If it is to be permanent I won't bother any more as it is too frustrating.

DawnMumsnet · 05/04/2024 13:22

@Binglebong , @Rinoachicken and @Oneblindmouse - we're really sorry you're still having these issues viewing the site. Just to confirm, have you all tried clearing your browser's cache but are still experiencing this problem?

hedgehoggle · 05/04/2024 13:30

I had this problem, site was unusable on chrome on mobile. Switched to Firefox and no problems now

@LilyMumsnet

and that is why I didn't bother repeating it.

its always out on the users and when we report back we're told to try again. It goes around in circles until we give up, then magically it changes, for a while until it starts doing it again.

when it does this it deletes the post you've spent ages writing & between that & being frozen it's a painful experience.

iPhone 15
ipad mini, latest version

safari

snd no I don't want to 'try chrome' again. I don't like it & it doesn't help anyway.

this has been going on for years!

SamWinchestersHair · 05/04/2024 13:43

Super slow to load pages here, just freezes and won’t scroll down the page. Safari on iPad

Binglebong · 05/04/2024 13:53

Yep, tried and no luck.

LilyMumsnet · 05/04/2024 16:16

Hi all,

We're still looking into this, and we think it would be helpful to know what consent options you chose (if you remember).

Did you:
a) Press "Accept-all" on cookie banner
b) "Withdraw consent" (Located on 2nd page of consent message)
c) Save & Exit (Located on 2nd page of consent message)
d) "Reject-all" (Located on 2nd page as a link in body of text)

Also, can we ask what browser you're using, and can you let us know if you're using private browsing?

And finally, can you let us know how many posts you're viewing per page?

OwlBasket · 05/04/2024 18:48

Cookies accepted from banner. Safari. No private browsing. 100 posts per page (prefer all on one page but that’s been unusable for yonks)

Rinoachicken · 05/04/2024 19:23

I’m on safari - 25posts per page. All consents accepted. I’m in dark mode. Don’t use private browsing.

i don’t have any other browsers installed on my phone and I don’t see why I should have to use another browsers just for Mumsnet.

SpiltCoffee · 05/04/2024 19:26

Binglebong · 28/03/2024 21:58

I'm getting this and have been for a few days. I'm on an old sumsung with some varient of Google.

This, so often!
Safari, android, accepted cookies, usual not private browsing, no idea on number of posts, the whole thread loads.. or, y'know, doesnt!

LoobyDop · 05/04/2024 19:50

Sorry, @LilyMumsnet, I appreciate you’re just relaying messages from your tech support, but why are we expected to do all the legwork on this? Why don’t you have a testing platform that replicates how different devices and OSs respond? It’s nothing to do with caching, that’s the standard “try rebooting it” answer. It’s been going on for months, and we’re telling you that it’s unusable. We aren’t super users or beta testers- you figure it out and tell us when it has been fixed.

lavenderlou · 05/04/2024 23:38

This has been happening to me constantly too - "Aw Snap" Reload page. Android smartphone using Chrome. I clear the cache regularly. It's getting very annoying.

lavenderlou · 05/04/2024 23:39

Happened again just after I posted!

Exactly the same here. I refuse to go down to fewer posts per page when it's already a compromise option!

EndlesslyDistracted · 06/04/2024 08:13

For a long time I have periodically cleared MN from my browsing history then rejected cookies and logged in and this has been fine (up to date IOS and Safari on iphone, not using private browsing, 50 posts per page). This is to hide all the promoted by MN threads. I know, but they irritate the hell out of me, far too many and staying up for far too long. This constant refreshing business has coincided with a spell of clearing the cookies but not getting a cookie consent message when re-opening the site and not being able to reject to avoid the ads etc. Could this be related? Anyway I have just cleared MN from my browsing history again and thankfully the cookie message has come up this time and allowed me to reject them so I don't have to see a page full of fake threads about uniqlo bags which have been there for weeks now, hoping the refresh thing will be sorted now too, will report back.

Re the promoted by MN threads, its a shame to have to block them as the odd one is useful, its a shame they can't be attached to topics so if you have opted out of eg baby equipment because your DC are adults you wouldn't have to see those promos.

justasking111 · 06/04/2024 08:17

My people it's been happening to me and is getting worse. Motorola phone on chrome

HebeMumsnet · 08/04/2024 11:20

Morning, @justasking111 and others. We are still looking to find a fix for this. If you haven't tried the suggestions above, it is worth clearing your cache and changing your preferences to view 25 posts per page as that may get around the issue.

If you missed @LilyMumsnet 's post above, it would also be helpful if you remember and can tell us whether you:

a) Pressed "Accept-all" on cookie banner
b) Pressed "Withdraw consent" (Located on 2nd page of consent message)
c) Pressed Save & Exit (Located on 2nd page of consent message)
d) Pressed "Reject-all" (Located on 2nd page as a link in body of text)

Thank you Flowers

justasking111 · 08/04/2024 12:37

Hebe no disrespect but it's an IT issue to fix that's what they're paid for. I tried the other things last week and it's worse at times. You have a gremlin time to call in the

Concretejungle1 · 08/04/2024 13:54

Im getting server is having a moment, have a cuppa, every time i try to load, click on anything

Mayflower282 · 08/04/2024 14:38

Keeps reloading my pages too, it’s so annoying. Tried clearing cache/history etc but hasn’t helped. Using safari on iPhone.

NahNeedsGarlic · 08/04/2024 14:45

Same here, Safari on iPhone. It’s been happening for months.
Mumsnet is the only site that I have this problem with.

Twofifty · 08/04/2024 21:27

Same, I get aww snap constantly, it's making the site unusable. Chrome, android, 100 posts per page, no idea about consent options. It's only ever on MN I have issues and it's always the same advice! I don't have to perform technical operations to look at other sites.

DawnMumsnet · 09/04/2024 11:11

Hi @justasking111 (and everyone else having this issue) we understand your frustration and we're sorry to keep asking you to try tweaking things. We're very grateful to anyone who's tried implementing any of our suggestions - we're having trouble replicating this and are trying to establish what's causing the problem so we can hopefully resolve it.

@EndlesslyDistracted thanks for sharing your thoughts. We're looking into your theory.

@Twofifty could you please try setting your posts per page to 25 or 50 to see if that makes a difference? We know it's helped some posters. @NahNeedsGarlic , @Mayflower282, @OwlBasket and @Concretejungle1 could you please try making this change as well?

Thanks again for bearing with us.
