We need to be able to discuss Gaza

Can MNHQ please allow a forum to discuss Gaza with some clear guidelines on what and what is not considered anti semitic?
Taking these threads down just dumbs down the site completely.

Blimey that’s rude

It’s quotes like this that get the threads deleted. Mis information - implying it’s Israel, when it’s now been said it’s not. Pro Palestinians shouting people down for actually having an opinion different to their own. Lots of hate and frothing at the mouth against Israel/Jews.

I haven't seen any hate towards Jews on mumsnet threads

It was hit by a rocket launched by Hamas from Gaza.

Fake news. Islamaphobic. See other people can do it too.

Eradication?

From 1990 to 2022 the population of Palestine increased from 1.98 million to 5.04 million people. This is a growth of 155.0 percent in 32 years. The highest increase in Palestine was recorded in 1991 with 4.58 percent.

Have you looked at the current charts or calamities in both regions? 🤔

Reported as hate speech.
Lets try and keep the odd thread going without attacking posters

@MNHQ can you please make it clear what your position is on disinformation / misinformation.

Also can you post guidance a warning when if has been reported.

The challenge it yourself approach? Not working.

Good point - I’m not sure if the thread is in site stuff whether you have to report your post or not for MNHQ to see it or whether they are monitoring the thread though? An answer to your point would be very helpful at this point.

"Conclusion:

A missile launched by a Palestinian group exploded mid-air (Reason unknown) and one piece fell on the hospital causing an explosion.

The geolocation and timing of the footage is conclusive."

I've just listened to a veteran war correspondent who seriously doubts that Hamas would have a missile with the capacity to kill 500 people

This thread kinda illustrates the problem doesn't it- ironically.

I read a theory that the neighbouring countries end up with huge Palestinian refugee camps which become permanent... The countries realise it's an underhand way for the Israelis to boot out more and more of the Palestinian population, so it's better not to accept them in the first place because they will then never be able to go back.

Another view is that they don’t want Hamas and Hamas supporting people in their country …. there is actually some corroborating proof to this …. Egypt (who occupied Gaza for a time - people seem keen to eradicate this from their memory banks) suffered hugely from Moslem brotherhood terrorist attacks (Hamas is affiliated to this ‘movement’) and tried to assassinate and overthrow the Jordanian govt when they were accepted into Jordan so they don’t want them. Sorry if that doesn’t sit with your anti Israel anti semitic it’s all the Israelis people fault rhetoric

Because Rishi is standing with a country suffering from one of the worst terrorist attacks in recent history. Bless him for doing so.

He is in danger of war-mongering.

Yes
Posters are getting angry and being very rude.
Why can’t there be a post where what is happening in Gaza at the moment is rationally discussed with news from reliable sources.
No wonder MNHQ keep taking these threads down.

not even israel is claiming that - they are blaming the militarily much weaker PIJ instead!

DeeCeeCherry · 18/10/2023 01:06

If people are shouted down for not actively supporting Israel and also being deemed antisemitic for not supporting Israel then I'm glad threads are being shut down. There's no point to them if it's just loads of back and forth if you don't follow the majority view. I can't see how on earth Palestine/Gaza can be discussed without accusations of supporting terrorism somewhere along the line

As this thread in itself shows well enough

Sorry. Let me parrot these lines :

About eight-in-ten (81%) Israeli adults are Jewish, while the remainder are mostly ethnically Arab and religiously Muslim (14%), Christian (2%) or Druze (2%). Overall, the Arab religious minorities in Israel are more religiously observant than Jews.

anotherside · 18/10/2023 01:10

Ironically the three or four threads that were deleted had much better posts regardless of where they stood, and far fewer insults thrown about. The “must stop misinformation” spiel is basically only successful at one thing - trying to get people to shut up about a certain topic. All the while still leaving mass media news sources to continue spreading half truths or questionable narratives, only now unchallenged.

These are the rockets they had in 2021. They have stuff with a decent range. Mind you Israel is only the size of Wales so they don't need much range really.

If you want to Google what kind of damage they can do that might answer whether they could kill that many people. Though at a guess the rocket probably only needed to hit the courtyard of the hospital in the right place and large chunks of building would fall on top of those in the courtyard. I think possibly people didn't all die from the blast but under rubble caused by the blast.

Sure at some point the true facts will be available or some solid evidence either way.

We need to be able to discuss Gaza

UAE (which has full diplomatic ties with Israel) appears in no doubt:

#UAE strongly condemns the Israeli attack that targeted Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the #Gaza Strip resulting in the death and injury of hundreds of people.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs] expresses its deep regret for the loss of life and conveys its condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a swift recovery for all those injured. The Ministry also stressed the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and to ensure that civilians and civilian institutions are not targeted. The Ministry further underlined the importance of the protection of civilians, according to international humanitarian law, international treaties for the protection of civilians and human rights, and the need to ensure that they are not targeted in conflict. The United Arab Emirates called on the international community to intensify efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life, to avoid further fuelling the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, and to advance all efforts to achieve a comprehensive and just peace, while preventing the region from being pulled into new levels of violence, tension and instability.

I want to know why Egypt and Jordan being neighbours do not want to accept Palestinians people? I find people blame Western leaders but what about the other countries in the Middle East?

Because Hamas Was created by the “Muslim brotherhood “and this is something that Egypt (sisi) doesn’t want more of.

As for Jordan, they already have to deal with Palestinian refugee camps that they cannot handle anymore

PaxOmnibus · 18/10/2023 01:18

LuluBlakey1 · 18/10/2023 00:30

I don't understand why the UK , apart from expressing horror and outrage about any attacks on /mistreatment of Jewish or Palestinian civilians, is yet again pushing itself to this situation. Why is Sunak going to Israel and on a tour of Middle East leaders? Why is he sending a warship- we hardly have any? We're a piddling island with no power on the edge of Europe.

Given the history he’s ( not personally ) Probably feeling just a tad responsible.

Unithorn · 18/10/2023 01:18

The only potentially manageable thing imo would be to have a megathread- everything posted on that one thread and moderated fairly and anything else deleted off the bat.
