Adverts with sound

What fresh new hell is this?

Am on an iPad (Safari browser). Am now getting adverts on the right-hand bar playing with bloody sound/video. Please make it stop.

I may well be an “outlier”, but more forced advertising is going to drive people away, not encourage them to look at said adverts. I can’t even tell you what the advert is for - my only instinct was to hit the pause button to make it shut up!

same here. And I’m only on mums net as can’t sleep, so getting sound from an advert I have no interest in, not only made me jump (as it’s the middle of the night) but my family are sleeping…

puts me off mumsnet entirely

@HebeMumsnet - it hasn’t happened so far today. If it does, I will definitely update you.

Am wondering if this will end up being a time-related glitch. Seem to remember there was one a while ago which kept occurring after midnight (can’t remember what it was though!)

Same here, I’ve had it about 10 times this afternoon and I’ve had to turn the sound off on my I pad now. Worst culprit seems to be a McDonalds ad.

Can we confirm this advert played audio prior to clicking, and please could you paste the direct URL to where the ad takes you? It's going to be a bit tricky to locate from the screenshot as it's an ad choices ad!

Can we ask that you clear your cache in the meantime? We think this may prevent it from popping up in the meantime.

Its extremely annoying - you have to watch the whole advert before it allows you to click on it.

I do not want to clear my cache again as I lose my Wordle streak amongst other things.

It happened to me again the other day, but forgot to screenshot which advert it was. Since then, I’ve just turned the sound off on my iPad as it seemed the easiest option!

I use the sound for other things though - FaceTime, Netflix etc so it’s really annoying me to be turning it off all the time - and I forget!
