Constantly having to consent to cookies

amusedbush · 16/07/2022 11:18

For the past few days, every single time I click a link, open a thread or refresh a page on MN I get a huge pop-up asking me to accept cookies. I always click yes but it keeps happening, and sometimes it breaks (the box still covers my screen but it just shows an error message at the top) and I have to keep reloading the page until it's fixed.

It's a total pain but I don't know if it's a problem with the site or my browser. I'm using Safari version 16.0 but I've gone into the settings and the specific "settings for mumsnet.com" option and I can't see any reason that it's not saving my cookie consent.

I’ve had it since yesterday I’ve tried the fix and it didn’t work

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 05/09/2022 11:15

Wtf is going on? I am getting seriously fed up with having to click consent every time I open the site or each individual thread.
🤬

Hi everyone. Sorry for the continued issues. Please follow the instructions below - it should stop this happening but do let us know if not, along with details of your device and browser and a screen grab if possible. (If you're not using Chrome or Safari, please let us know.)

Here are the instructions for Chrome:

Computer - Delete specific cookies

On your computer, open Chrome
At the top right, click More ⋮ > Settings
Click Privacy and security
Cookies and other site data
Click See all site data and permissions
At the top right, search for Mumsnet
To the right of the site, click Remove
To confirm, click Clear.

Android - Delete specific cookies

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app
Visit Mumsnet.com
To the right of the address bar, tap More ⋮ > Info > Cookies.
Next to the number of cookies in use, tap Delete

iPhone &iPad - Clear all cookies

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app
At the bottom right, tap More ⋮ > Settings
Tap Privacy > Clear Browsing Data.
Tick Cookies, Site Data. Untick the other items.
Tap Clear Browsing Data > Clear Browsing Data.
Tap Done.

Here are the instructions for Safari:

iPhone & iPad
Navigate to your settings
Click on ‘Safari’
Scroll to the bottom and choose ‘Advanced’
Click on ‘Website Data’
Type ‘Mumsnet' into the search box
Swipe left on ‘Mumsnet’ and choose ‘Delete’

I use Firefox on a laptop. I can't get past the first page that has the dialogue box, and can't click on the privacy settings.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 05/09/2022 16:02

Hi @RampantIvy

For Firefox:

At the top right, click ⋮ > Click ‘Settings’
Click ‘Privacy & Security’
Scroll down to ‘Cookies and Site Data’
Click ‘Manage Data’
Select Mumsnet.com and choose ‘Removed Selected’
Save changes

Let us know how you get on.

RampantIvy · 05/09/2022 17:25

This doesn't work because the dialogue box has inactivated any actions I can do on the mumsnet website. I can't click on anything or select anything.

RampantIvy · 05/09/2022 18:30

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2022 09:47

Im not techno minded but if I clear cash /cookies don’t I lose passwords /auto filling ?

Astounding · 12/09/2022 11:50

I’ve tried the steps for safari on iPad and I still get the consent box on every page.

Astounding · 12/09/2022 11:54

Just unticked a whole load from of stuff on safari in desperation. No idea what I did but it’s stopped at last.

Tort · 12/09/2022 14:48

Site pretty unusable for me - I have to agree to cookies every time I refresh or move pages or post.

Tort · 12/09/2022 14:52

Your fix worked for me thanks!

Foreverlexicon · 12/09/2022 20:57

The fix isn’t working for me. iPhone and Safari

Henddraig · 12/09/2022 23:11

I’m having the same problem and the fix hasn’t worked

Blaise19 · 13/09/2022 08:51

Exactly the same issue started for me today - the various fixes haven't worked. Using a MacBook.

broccolibush · 13/09/2022 09:34

I had this issue in the summer, followed the instructions to clear mumsnet data on the iPhone, and the issue stopped.

it’s started again this morning. I cleared the data again and I didn’t have to consent to cookies for 4 threads and then I started to get the bloody pop up again on every thread.

come on mumsnet. Sort this out.
