Constantly having to consent to cookies

amusedbush · 16/07/2022 11:18

For the past few days, every single time I click a link, open a thread or refresh a page on MN I get a huge pop-up asking me to accept cookies. I always click yes but it keeps happening, and sometimes it breaks (the box still covers my screen but it just shows an error message at the top) and I have to keep reloading the page until it's fixed.

It's a total pain but I don't know if it's a problem with the site or my browser. I'm using Safari version 16.0 but I've gone into the settings and the specific "settings for mumsnet.com" option and I can't see any reason that it's not saving my cookie consent.

Oh look, it popped up again just for posting the picture/post.

WavePlant · 13/09/2022 14:32

On safari on an iPad.

TheLeadbetterLife · 13/09/2022 15:43

I just this minute updated Safari on my MacBook and now this is happening to me. The site is unusable so I'll disappear until you can sort it out. Not interested in using another browser just for MN!

Akite · 13/09/2022 17:28

I updated my iOS today and it started happening straight after that. On an iPhone 13, using safari and iOS 16.
i tried the above solution and it hasn't fixed it.

MrDuplicity · 13/09/2022 18:16

Happening for me too. Started today after I downloaded ios16. Tried the fix and it’s still happening

Seeingadistance · 14/09/2022 00:54

This is happening to me too. Safari on iPad.

HebeMumsnet · 14/09/2022 11:47

Morning, everyone.

For those finding this has consent issue has only been an issue after recently updating iOS, we think we’ve located the problem and it may be linked to the recent updates for some users. We’ve escalated this with the appropriate external agencies who are looking into it asap. As soon as we know more we'll let you know but hopefully it will be sorted soon.

For everyone else still experiencing the general cookies consent problem, as a temporary workaround, we’ve found that on Safari, on both mobile and desktop, users aren’t being asked to repeatedly consent to cookies if they access Mumsnet via a private/incognito tab. You should be able to open one of these by following these intructions:

Macbook (Safari):
Open Safari
Go to File dropdown at the top of the screen
Select New Private Window
Search for mumsnet.com

iPhone (Safari):
Open Safari
Select the tabs icon at the bottom of the screen
Click on the drop down arrow in the middle of the bar at the bottom of the screen
Select Private
Select Done
Search for mumsnet.com

You will be asked to consent to cookies and will need to log into your account again. You should then be able to browse without issues though.

We appreciate this is far from ideal, but hopefully it's a workaround until it's sorted. We’re still looking into this all urgently to get a proper fix and we’ll update as soon as you can use normal tabs again to let you know.

Thanks again, everyone, for your patience here. Flowers

GreySeat · 14/09/2022 12:00

Still every time I change page or comment for me today. Using an incognito tab is too much of ball ache when scrolling between pages etc

StopGo · 14/09/2022 17:32

Grrr!!!!! This blip is making the site unusable

AmeliaPMumsnet · 16/09/2022 16:54

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your patience. We found the issue that was causing you to see the consent pop up on every page and we’ve now deployed a fix.

Could you all try refreshing your page or opening Mumsnet in a new tab? This should sort it out for you. If you’re still having issues, can you please try clearing your Mumsnet cookies one more time following the instructions below for your browser:

iPhone & iPad - Chrome

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app
At the bottom right, tap More â‹® > Settings
Tap Privacy > Clear Browsing Data.
Tick Cookies, Site Data. Untick the other items.
Tap Clear Browsing Data > Clear Browsing Data.
Tap Done

Macbook - Safari

Open Safari
Go to the Safari dropdown at the top of the screen
Select Preferences
Head to the Privacy section
Select the Manage Website Data... button
Type Mumsnet into the search box
Click Mumsnet
Select the Remove button
Select Done

iPhone & iPad - Safari

Navigate to your settings
Click on Safari
Scroll to the bottom and choose Advanced
Click on Website Data
Type Mumsnet into the search box
Swipe left on ‘Mumsnet’ and choose ‘Delete’

amusedbush · 18/09/2022 16:20

Thanks @AmeliaPMumsnet @mnhq, I followed the instructions yesterday afternoon and the fix seems to be holding for now!

What a relief - I was tearing my hair out after two months of it.

Logged on this morning and this has suddenly started happening to me too on every page refresh.

Lunificent · 19/09/2022 07:32

I get this all the time. I think it started around the time of the site update when we lost the ability to do advanced search. I use Chrome.

GiantCheeseMonster · 19/09/2022 11:45

This is happening constantly for me and the suggested fix doesn’t work - I get to the point where I type Mumsnet in, and just get a spinning wheel forever.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/09/2022 14:47

After few days of freedom and it had stopped

it’s happening again 🥲🥲

after I’ve updated to iOS 16

not sure if any connection

what do I need to do again @LilyMumsnet

PeanutButterFalcon · 28/09/2022 23:45

First day back logging in since my post and it’s gone! I had just about given up

The cookies consent on each page has stopped but I’ve still got the text below and above ads disappearing and then the screen freezing. I have to come off the site. This is in iPad/safari with the latest update installed. It’s absolutely fine on my phone which is android. I’ve tried all the recommendations for iPad and it’s still happening,

HebeMumsnet · 03/10/2022 10:37

Hi there @Myotherdogsaballboy ,

This sounds like it could be to do with the size of the threads. Could you customise the number of posts you see per page down to 25 or 50? We're finding that on long threads, people who have their posts per page set to 1,000 are having trouble with the screen freezing. You can do this in 'My mumsnet' at the top right hand side of the screen. Just shout if you need any further help doing this though.

FreezingThyme · 04/10/2022 08:58

Thanks Hebe. I have the settings at 25 a page already.

antikkiti · 09/10/2022 20:01
